Hard to catch fire on the bench.

He played six games in a row & has played every other day since then. He's gotten opportunities, and I'm looking forward to him getting more which I'm sure he will. Look at Pratt. He came out smokin', seemed to hit a wall (offensively) & is now heating up again. There might be something Lara needs to adjust to, maybe swing path, maybe just video work on pitchers he's never seen before. Or something else. And like I said, it's not like he's been buried.

Pratt for Hamilton was simply a case of simplicity--he replaces Hamilton both as a hitter & defensively (with Ortiz moving to 3B). I think a lot of teams tend to do this now with shorter benches as opposed to years ago. Don't shoot the messenger; Sanchez would've been a good choice there. But I knew before it was even announced that it would be Pratt.

I had no issue with Turang laying the ball down, but give yourself a better chance to beat it out of the box for a hit--a little less of a square-around. Or even try to drag it vs a relatively inexperienced 1B.

The problem is the guys hitting after him are colder than the stare my future father in law gave when unexpectedly finding me in bed with his 19 year old daughter when he was trying to wake her up.

He's been gone now for 10 years or so but I'll never forget that look.

Our 19 year old versions had some good and stupid times in the early 80s

If you're bunting for a base hit, that's a weapon & one that IMO gets a bad rap. I mean, the people after him NEED to heat up. If they don't you have little chance for sustained success anyway.

Also.....what the hell? you didn't have a vehicle with an ample back seat?

Cubs gotta be excited man. They are loaded up and ready to rock with an Mvp caliber player leading the way. If someone watches the presser let us know what Murphy son says about hitting Yelich 3.

Yeah their offense puts ours to shame and they got some nice reinforcements to bolster their pitching staff.

To much beer and to much youth lead to bad decisions at times.

At this point Yelich needs to take one for the team and go on the dl for awhile.    For at least one week even though I can’t stand the guy - Sanchez and Contreras need to split the games.    Contreras needs to sit some.

Vaughn and Bauers can play every game or maybe you do bring a bomber up from the minors and see what he can do

you finally are getting production from the bottom of the order and the  so called best hitters suck.    And for awhile now.

it has hit unacceptable stages.     It’s just disheartening because I have finally jumped on the coattails of everyone else in just not believing they can do anything in the postseason let alone who knows how this year is going to finish

What the hell do we do with Yelich and Contreras? Put Yelich on the IL with some phantom injury? Drop Contreras down in the order? I mean, these guys are absolutely killing us right now and have been for awhile. And Chourio isn't much better. What a day.

RF-1B-DH he has four 'regulars', the three who filled those spots tonite plus Lara. Lara is the key to Yelich sitting more. Lara was getting a lot of run but is 1 for his last 12. I'm sure there's a process to his introduction to the bigs, and I'm certain it doesn't include "He has to play, because Yelich sucks!!!" And Yelich HAS sucked. I just hope Lara can catch fire & establish himself because when he's cookin' he fits really well with this offense. We'll see how it unfolds.

And Yelich is 1 for his last 13. The difference is Lara has a future here, Yelich doesn’t.

Hard for Lara to catch fire when he starts riding the pine every time he has a 1 for 12 stretch.

Yeah, Murphy getting tough, yet refuses to budge on Yelich getting every day at bats...  He's a real tough guy.

I agree, Yelich and Contreras both working on loooong slumps.

A lot of negativity on here (me included - see last two posts), but David Schofield did his individual trade rankings today and here’s what he said about Brewers

he said he wouldn’t be surprised if sentozela is the most impact reliever in October acquired at the deadline.

His criticisms of the cardinals trade was that it was a lot to give up and that May isn’t likely to start in the playoffs like a more notable starter would’ve. But he also said Mays underlying stats are great, gives up no hrs and the brewers got two solid arms. I think that’s a fair evaluation.

He didn’t rip the Brewers at all.

  • Maybe we should start looking at these guys?
  • Eric Theisen: Promoted to lead hitting coach after serving on the Major League staff last season.
  • Guillermo Martinez: Hitting coach newly joined from the Cubs and Blue Jays organizations.
  • Daniel Vogelbach: Hitting coach and former Brewers slugger entering his first full-time coaching role following his retirement as a player.

What is a hitting coach going to tell Yelich? Get the bat speed up? Stop whiffing on breaking balls?

The guy is a mess and no hitting coach alive is going to change him.

You mentioned bat speed, if that's a for real issue try a torpedo bat. Any small change won't hurt at this point.  All you can do is review recent at-bats compared to before they were slumping.  Bat path, stride, head movement changes, whatever.

Who is David Schofield?

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I also want to counter a point that was made yesterday about the Brewers not caring about power. I actually get a little bit of a chuckle about this because it wasn’t that long ago that the biggest complaint about the Brewers offense is that they couldn’t score unless they hit home runs, that was all they did.

The Brewers very much care about hitting the ball over the fence. I don’t think they expected Yelich to go from 29 HR to 7. I don’t think they expected Vaughn to have 4 HR at this point this year. The plan was not for William Contreras to have the worst slugging percentage of his career. Garrett Mitchell is another, I think if fully healthy they expected him to be well into the double digit by now. Circumstantially, they have not hit well for power this year. That was not the plan and it’s a little absurd to suggest it was.

They also have numerous top prospects (Made, Adamczewski, Fischer, Payne, Adams, Burke) with anywhere from very good power to amazing power. They absolutely do care about it.

It is August 4th and I now have a new word in my arsenal to bandy about, SPROAT.

Once again, the Brewers got SPROATED.

Thank you.

I don't even know if that's the reason why he's 'riding the pine'. That's an exaggeration anyway. Like I said, he played six games in a row & since then he's been playing like every other day. I also brought up reasons why he might not be out there every day. And whatever those reasons are, they're going to trump "Get him on the field!!!!! Yelich sucks!!!!!" (and BTW yeah, he has).

I understand their trying to get Yelich going. At the same time I've probably been one of his biggest critics on here and no, I'm not confident he'll heat up. I'd be shocked & disappointed if Lara doesn't receive the opportunity to get on the field most days.
