Have you been watching this lineup for the last two months and your reaction is, "meh, no big deal". Is that your honest takeaway?

Yes. The Brewers had the best record in the National League last season and went 3-7 out west at Arizona, San Diego and San Francisco.

6-6 in 2024 against LA, SF, SD and AZ.

4-6 in 2023 out west.

They simply don’t play well there.

I don't disagree. But the swings at pitches that are not strikes hurt just as much. Lotsa potential 2-1s turned into 1-2s, 3-1s turned into 2-2s, etc.

100%. That's been one of my largest frustrations watching this team. They seem to be watching a lot of pitches in the zone but are swinging outside the zone a lot, generally when they've already got 2 strikes so it's a lot of defensive swings.

I don't think any of the Padres' starters were particularly 'good' in this series, they just knew the Brewers were going to be taking a lot of pitches. I think being patient has it's benefit but if you're getting pitches over the center of the plate, it's probably better to offer than to wait for a 2-strike slap approach.

But you didn't answer the question?

Yeah, it’s too bad the Cubs are rolling but when the schedule comes out, you can mark more than half the games out west as losses, so what’s the big deal?

Bregman 2 HRS 5 RBIs.

nationals tied the game only to have the cubs score 5. Four with two outs .

we have David Hamilton and Joey Ortiz taking full time at bats.

I'm not referring to the games out west, per se. I asked, "have you been watching this offense? And if so, your answer is, 'meh, it's the west coast'?"

No doubt it's easy to predict bad west coach trips, but this offense has been so bad for a few months that it doesn't matter where they are playing.

Yeah, they’re still 22 - 15 since July 1st so I think I am kinda “Meh it’s the West Coast”

Fair enough. I'll check in with you in a week (not being a jerk). This team feels more 2014 and less 2025 or 2024.

The thing is, for all the failures w/runners on they still win the game if they play the level of baseball they've come to expect from themselves, and what we usually see. Ashby failing twice on the same play, three walks in the same inning, etc. But yeah, obviously you need to give yourself some breathing room. The most frustrating thing is seeing people go out of character in those situations. I'm convinced the only reason Hamilton & Ortiz K'd in the last inning was because there was a runner on 3rd w/less than two out & they changed their approach. Put up your normal AB. Clear your head. "Trying to get the run in" has now become "swing at pretty much anything". Even after Turang reached 3B early in the game. It was with two outs, but still.........Vaughn turned in an AB you seldom see from him. For the life of me, I don't know what causes the 'pass the baton' mindset to disappear in those ABs. I mean, I guess I do, but it's almost always harmful. They need to understand that.

But thats the point, this stuff has been going on for weeks.  Just so happens its starting to burn them.

I thought Buehler located well last night, but I agree he certainly was not 'give up only one run' good.

The Brewers are a combined 23-5 against Cincy, Minnesota. St. Louis and Colorado. Hitters looked great against those teams. . It all evens out, they did not play as well against better teams

Sadly they will be in second place by the time they go to wrigley for four.

4 in LAD, sea (elite pitching), Braves, between then,

by the grace of a miracle if they even go 2-2 in LAD the division lead will be 1 game.

The Cubs offense is far superior to the Brewers.   You have to be able to bang and we just can’t.  The pitching can’t hold up constantly having to be perfect or you lose.

So the offense looked 'good' against 3 bad teams? Thankfully they won't see a good team in the playoffs.

I don't think the hitters looked good against Minnesota after the AB break.

All you have to do is ask yourself if the brewers were down 1 in game 5 with a man on third and one out, who would you trust at the plate?

not who would you prefer, but who would you actually trust? The answer is no one.

Agreed. And even when you win those games, the 'pen isn't as taxed when you go up by 3 or 4 runs.

Still, that 8th was out of character. And even though it was a blowout, the shoddy play yesterday turned a scoreless frame into 5 runs. The offense needs to get much better, but it'll never cover for some of the stuff we've seen recently, either.

I'm not as sure about the hitting coaching. Milwaukee just doesn't have the talent at too many positions to be any kind of threat for the W.S...  Yelich is washed up and they are stuck with him for the next two years. Mitchell is 7 for his last 56 and whiffing about 1/3 of the time. He's been hurt so much nobody knew if he could hit or not. The talent as a hitter just doesn't seem to be there.  Hamilton is a once or twice a week bench guy who is playing far too much because Murphy had nobody else. Ortiz is hitting better than his career stats, but nobody is going to mistake him for a natural good hitter. Lara is a young guy who is over matched quite often. He really belongs in the minors at age 21. No amount of coaching can make up for the lack of talent. Contreras is a different story. However I don't know if at this point in his career he's going to change much.

I already forgot his name, may as well have just pulled that guy with the half opened jersey and toothpick in his mouth off the streets for free than traded for Senzatela, he is garbage.
