Low-A Wilson host Hickory for 2 games today, with 19-year old RHP Tyler Renz (4.69 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 8.4 K/9 in 88.1 IP) making his 15th start (24th appearance) in the opening contest. 1B Frederi Montero has an 11-game on-base streak.

RHP Jaron DeBerry has been solid in his last 2 starts for AA Biloxi (11 IP, 6 R (1 ER), 17 Ks), but been charged with the loss both times. They lead Knoxville 2 games to 1 in this week’s home series. 1B Andrew Fischer blasted 3 homers yesterday to lift his world leading season total to 42.

21-year old RHP Jose Meneses (2.25 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 11.3 K/9 in 56 IP) makes his first start since June 2024, as High-A Wisconsin shoot for a 3-1 home series lead over South Bend. 1B Eric Bitonti is 13-for-38 with 6 homers over his last 10 games.

The Low-A Warbirds have dropped 3 straight home games against Hickory, so need a win tonight behind 18-year old Diustin Mayorquin (4.1 IP, 1 R, 4 Ks last week) to avoid a doubleheader sweep and series loss. Antunez, Sabathia and Garcia enter the starting lineup for this Game 2.

The Sounds cranked out 14 hits in their 8-5 victory, with Lockridge and Wilken combining to go 5-for-9 with a homer, 2 doubles, walk and 7 RBIs.

Deward Tovar torched Wilson pitching in Game 1: 4-for-4, 2 HR, double, 6 RBIs.

Other than that, we could have won. Montero and Mills homered in their 9-5 defeat.

Through 3 innings, six different Timber Rattlers have at least one RBI, led by Yannic Walther (2). The good guys lead 7-0. It looks like Jayden Dubanewicz is expected to cover the bulk of the innings, after Meneses, Romero and Uribe dominated for 3 frames (7 Ks).

Wisconsin led 7-4 with 2 outs and nobody on in the 9th inning. Jose Nova had gotten a ground out and strike out to nearly allow 5,656 Rattlers’ fans to go home to their loved ones.

From that point, he went single, single, wild pitch, intentional walk (asking for trouble), run-scoring walk (see the trouble). 7-5 game, bases loaded, still 2 outs.

Did we pull him? Nope. Let’s continue: run-scoring walk. 7-6 game.

Pull him now? No. Onward we go: 2-run single, 2-run single, walk.

Tough one. I’m sure the ‘pen was spent, with Yerlin the only remaining arm, so I’m not criticizing the manager. And Nova managed all of that within 35 pitches, so it’s not like there was an injury risk. Just really tough for him, the fans, the players and coaches, I’m sure.

More importantly, Luis Pena exited a few batters after a hit-by-pitch and stolen base, thus ending his 10-game hitting streak.

Hopefully that was just a precautionary move.

I don't think it's about "getting it".  Since he was out of the lineup from 5/28 to 6/5 he's been very good - .878 OPS in June, struggled a bit in July, now .808 OPS in August.

My guess is that he was having more issues with his eye early in the season and had more eye therapy done from 5/28 to 6/4.  The team likely cannot reveal that because it is protected health information under HIPAA.  Eye injuries often do not fully heal.
