Bryce gutting this out and then going on the IL is gonna be a big league move by him.

Well, he'd rather go on the IL than be sent down, right?

Good work by Wilson. Saved the pen, kept things fresh headed into Chicago.

Glad to see Wilson did very well today.  Ate up innings and kept the Brewers in shouting distance.   Still can't get over the way he got dfa'd earlier this season.

For sure, IF this was a strategic move by the player... He gets big league pay on the IL vs being DFA'd. That's probably worth $70-$80k or something like that to be stashed on the DL vs being released.

Can’t win them all, some good today, some bad. The biggest factor was that 4+ innings, 4 earned runs with 4 walks/HBP from your starting pitcher is simply not good enough.

Little side note - I just took a look at May's first 4 games. Sanchez caught the first two. Contreras caught Game 3 and was catching Game 4.

If May shoves today I may be inclined to request May/Sanchez until it doesn't work.

Update: I will not be inclined.

Disappointing loss today.   I have significant doubts that May deserves to be on the playoff roster as this point.  Hopefully he can turn it around in September

If the postseason started today there’s no situation besides garbage time that you could trust him in. He’s firmly 5th behind Drohan at this point and possibly 6th behind Gasser.

I was curious as to why Vaughn would PH leading off an inning, until I realized he was going to get a 2nd AB by staying in to play 3B & contribute to Texas expanding their lead (although I agree that while it was a bad feed, it certainly was Turang's error).

I too would've left May in to start the 5th inning, but thought he should've been pulled for Anderson immediately after the leadoff walk. He wasn't good, but didn't exactly have a shamrock jammed in his back pocket either. Duran turning on the pitch he hit out & still keeping it fair was sort of ridiculous. And on the double in the 2nd inning, Mitchell clearly appeared to be deferring to Chourio. Can't do that on a gapper if you're the CF. But yeah, mostly a case of May not being good.

Coulda been a bigger number vs Rocker, but when facing someone who was as reluctant (or unable) to throw strikes as he was, there was too much over-aggressiveness. Then guys like Alexander & later Junis can really use that against you.

That's not true.  I didn't like the trade initially.   Ive never once moaned about the Sproat tade or how they acquired Crow.  So that was a false premise.

Tell me something about his stats the last 2 years that backs up ypur claim that hes a good pitcher.

Well he’s top 20 in fip this season

Might come down to, if you need a 4th starter in a series do you want to go L or RHP. Since 2021 he's only come out of the BP twice so who even knows if he can get ready on shorter notice as opposed to someone like Wilson or one of the lefties. So he could be in danger of being left off, or if he does a better job of working from ahead then sumpin else.

May seems like an NLCS kind of option, should they get there. Those middle three games usually require a 4th starter, even if you're throwing him in Game 4 or 5 and just hoping he gets through 3 or 4.

Honestly, the idea of Dusty May (a competent starting pitcher who happens to be somewhere between 4th and 6th best on this staff) having much to do with our playoff performance, either way, seems far-fetched. He's not that kind of guy. So far, he's been...fine in the regular season, which is what you were acquiring him for (and maybe hoping he got really hot and forced you to roster him). There's a lot of factors that we'll end up evaluating that trade on, and May's performance here in August and September is probably the least of the major ones. If he'd shoved (and he still might) in his time here, you could say "good start," but him just being a so-so back-end rotation arm so far is not going to influence my opinion either way.

For me, it really comes down to Romero and Frias/Ragsdale. Romero's the leverage guy you hope can get you big outs in big games (probably in the 5th or 6th), and the other two guys have a low, but reasonable as far as prospects go chance of being impact outfielders. We can all hope the Brewers side of this makes the answer easy, but it probably won't, and it certainly wasn't going to based on 4 Dusty May starts. The answer comes in 2-5 years when we have a better idea of the two OFs.

You need a 4th SP in the NLDS this year as well. The AL gets the extra day off the the DS round this year.

This could be the Brewers year to win it all.  3 things are needed: 1. They have to accept that May is bad at his job and limit damage, 2. They continue believing in the Murph magic.  It's starting to fray and will disappear soon,  3. Yellich has to return to form.  This is their last chance for a long time.

Dicey from a fan's perspective, sure, but it's hard to expect a team to have a week's worth of a lead for the bye with 25 games left. The fact that the Brewers have a 3-game lead on two teams (holding the tiebreaker over one), one of whom plays a murderous schedule, is pretty much the best we could have hoped for at this point in the year.

From the beginning of the season, I agree, but not from a week ago.

Last Sunday, before the little league game, we were up 6 on the Braves with a chance to go up 7 and clinch the tie breaker.  Now we're up 3 and losing the tie breaker.

Interesting that May doesn't look anything like the guy who shut the Brewers down. I can't help but think it's part of why he is here.

Murphy when Sproat has a bad outing: “This guy is dog ass and he better get it together soon”

Murphy has managed so poorly today that I genuinely sincerely wonder if he felt fine taking one on the chin today as long as he could avoid using any leverage relievers before the Cubs series.

This.

Wait why is this their last chance for a long time? I personally think their window is as open as it’s ever been with no closed window in sight, with a continued chance to be a very high end contender every single year.

Unless you’re just saying you don’t expect there to be baseball in 2027.

Defensive blunders like a missed catch at second base means ... The pitching staff is left cleaning up messes they didn't entirely create.  Turang's missed catch, not Dustin Mays fault.

Take that to the Bank.

I do agree however that I hope they don’t try to force May to be a part of the playoff roster and a key player on it, just because they gave up a lot for him, if he continues to pitch poorly in September.
