Because they suddenly go from throwing off a mound from a set position to having to field a ball and rush (often) a throw off of flat ground. It's a much different feeling and not always easy to do on the fly.

It's likely why Ashby whips the ball to first. I always found it easier to set myself if I had time and throw it hard like when I'm playing catch.

Why? It wasn't a terrible throw. Average throw and Chourio got it out quick. Perfect throw gets him.

Not sure it would have made a difference but it wasn't a particularly great throw.

They got a medium distance pop up, the choice and result were both fine.
