Game 6 - Cowboys @ Packers - Sunday, Oct. 18th @ 7:20 PM

Sunday Night Football!

Ok, so are the Packers good again?  At least the offense exorcised a few demons by stomping the Bears.  Will the Cowboys be foolish enough to go with man coverage like the Bears?  Parsons must be climbing walls for not returning for this game.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I think the Packers and Cowboys are both in the category of, "well do they want to play this week, will the opponent show up and want to play this week?"  I do think the Cowboy's roster looks a bit better than the Packer's roster.  This might be one rare week where I give the Packers much higher marks in the coaching department.  Can't say I'm the least bit impressed by the Schottenheimer/Christian Parker (DC) combination.  They ran Eberflus out of town after last season, and they have not improved at all.  That defense should be WAY better than it is.

I can't find the words to explain this. The Packers have a realistic chance at 4-2, despite looking like the worst version of themselves in probably 8 or 9 years and that was because Aaron Rodgers was hurt. What's more mind-blowing is the two losses are a blowout at home to Atlanta and a game they choked away epically and absolutely should have won. I understand the wins are squeakers against the Jets and Bucs and two backup QBs. It just feels like every single week has had some asterisk on it. Just a bizarre season unfolding.

I expect nothing serious from this team this year, but could Minnesota possibly have had a softer 5 games to open the season?

I'm interested to see if the offense can keep it rolling against another weak D. I hope MLF doesn't think he can pound the rock now. Just let Love do his thing and let that set up the run. You just need a little to be successful with play action.

Pretty surprised to see that this game is pretty much a toss-up (current line = Packers -1).  I thought the Packers would be a slight favorite on a neutral field, and then add in home field advantage,,,I was expecting something like Packers -4.5 or Packers -5.  Historically, is having those extra days off that much of an advantage?

This year's NFL feels really weird all the way around....I think it's a product of the 17 game season, all the international games, limited practice time, injuries, and how much influence referees now have on game all really diminishing the on-field product.  I simply haven't watched much of the NFL this year (including the Packers), and probably won't get heavily invested until December - if at all.  The league has the feel of waste time for three months of the regular season, then see who's actually good around Christmas.

I do agree that if not for the season-opener meltdown, this Packers team could be sitting 4-1 on top of the division, and even seeing their record at 3-2 would've likely been expected before regular season games started happening....at least their offensive line isn't in total shambles (although it's still the glaring weak part of this roster).  I don't think they're very good - but then again I think very few NFL teams are currently any good.

"There is an old adage about the NFL, that you find out what you are not doing well in September, fix it in October, and prepare for a stretch run in November and December."

Not sure how old that is, but certainly true once they stopped playing starters in the pre-season.  September is just a total crap shoot.

Hoo boy, that's a tough and loaded question. Good in comparison to the Falcons game? Probably. Good in comparison to the Vikes game? Maybeish? Ultimately, the question is are the Bears good? At the moment, they're injured and have serious deficits in the secondary. And we were able to capitalize on that, so much so that our kicker left 7 points on the field with 2 missed FGs and a missed extra point and the game wasn't in doubt. Just a matter of stacking wins when you can.

They squeaked by the Jets and backup QB Bucs, then put in their best performance against not just a backup Bears QB, but a terrible one, whose team identity is a defense that sucks and relies almost entirely on the athleticism of the QB who didn't play.

Dallas is probably a worse version of everything people hate about the Packers. Soft, undisciplined and choky. I think you'll see what the Packers are next week in Detroit. The Lions aren't special this year, but it's a hostile division road game against a team that can put up tons of points.

In the end I think maybe the Packers are the Packers. Maybe eeking their way to 10-7 or something but not a real threat to do anything. But I'm not even really convinced they're that good either.

I think the season hinges on how well Parsons comes back from the ACL and how well the offensive line holds up. Sucks that Cooper is out. Can't catch a break.
