I still think that Yost is going against the grain a bit too much lately. It is Baseball 101...an aggressive lefty batter can be beaten much easier by a lefty with "stuff" than a righty that was throwing 4 seamers at 89 mph. There is no way that Santana should have come in to the game for Dunn.

JDLR + DUNN = walk or K. I think it would have been the right move. Most likely he comes in, walks Dunn who has great plate discipline but takes a lot of close call 3rd strikes and we go to someone else for Pena.

As I predicted on the first page of the game thread, yet another horrible Sunday loss. Why our guys play so poorly on Sundays is beyond me.

I know in the grand scheme of things this was only one game but this was a killer to lose. With a .500 type team like the Brewers, being three games under as opposed to one is huge.

IMO, today's loss means we will be chasing .500 for the rest of the season instead of getting there and staying over the .500 mark. If we would have won today, we probably would have been 2-3 games over by the end of the homestand. Even a bad east coast road trip would still leave us right round .500.....now we will probably be 2 games under a week from now and a bad road trip will bring us down even further.

It's hard to say that ONE game at the end of July was such a huge game in the course of a season but today's game really was big. And now there is a lot of pressure to do well vs. the Dbacks...a couple more losses and we're 5 under...yikes.

This team doesn't play well enough to be above .500. Considering they are one of the worst defensive teams in the league, one of the worst clutch hitting teams in the league, one of the slowest teams in the league, and one of the worst managed teams in the league, it is amazing they are even near .500 at all. I guess it shows how far better-than-average pitching can take a team.

Why the Brewers best pinch-hitter wasn't batting in the 9th is beyond me?

one of the worst clutch hitting teams in the league,

Gosh, that just isn't true, no matter how many times it's said here.

I agree that JDLR would have been a great guy to bring in there. All Yost did last year was whine that he didn't have a LOOGY; now he has a couple of them and doesn't use them? Sheesh.

I wonder where Wise is today. Maybe he's not available because we pitched him 2 2/3 with an 8 run lead on Thursday. Maybe it's match-ups.

Wise was in Milwaukee. His wife just had a baby. My guess is Wise would have been the set up man Yost went with in the 9th, but pitching from Milwaukee is a long throw, especially for a change-up artist.

You know, if Yost had brought in JDLR and he walked a couple of guys and then gave up the game winning hit the boards would be packed with people saying Ned should have brought in Santana. The fact is, Yost can't win. No matter what move is made, there is always going to be someone who disagrees.

People need to realized that this game was not lost in the bottom of the ninth inning. It was lost in the previous 9 innings when we scored ONLY TWO RUNS against a horrible pitching staff. If I would have told you that the Reds would only get 3 runs today, there is not a soul on this board who would have thought we'd lose.

Magruder hit for Davis... its hard to argue with that move. Were there other players available on the bench? Sure. But if Helms struck out, someone would have wanted Miller. If Miller made an out, someone would have wanted Magruder, etc. If the pinch hitter gets a hit, it goes almost unnoticed. If he makes an out, its an opportunity to rip Yost. Fact is, no matter who pinch hit there, there was at best a 3-in-10 chance it would end in a hit.

i dont think anyone would have wanted to see magruder right there, hes been terrible in pinch hit situations

Except Yost went with the option that gives him the lowest chance of sucess. Magruder "hits".195 from the left side. Miller is around .250 and Helms is around .250 as well against right handers.

No more predicting sweeps against teams like many a poster here did. Very bad Karma. It is good to think positive, but you can't jinx things. Baseball fans should no better than that.

I just wanted JDLR in there for the lefty, that was it.

I posted my displeasure of Magruder being called on before he struck out looking. Can't claim hindsight in that case.

I think I'm finally calmed down enough.

When we lose like this you can always pick out any part of the game and say that's why we lost. We had chances to come up with big 2 out hits and we just didn't do it.

But the Dunn at bat just stick in my craw. I would have liked to see a lefty face him but Santana has been decent. But why you throw a fastball right down the middle to Dunn is beyond me. And that's right where Miller was set up. It's not like it was a mistake in location. I just couldn't believe it. When he threw the slider in the dirt I'm like, ok, a couple more like that.

I realize getting Dunn out there wouldn't guarantee a Brewer win. Heck we probably still would've lost, but the fact that Miller called for that location just drove me nuts. It was almost like they wanted to end the game right away or something.

When you are an average or a bit below average team, this is what you get. Teased just enough to think that you are better than what you are, but not bad enought to really know you are not any good.

Looking back at this, I have decided that I am pretty average!

It's amazing to me how every loss is Yost's fault, yet he gets none of the credit for the victories. According to many on the board here, he's 0-51 this season. And the Brewers are 47-0 when they manage to overcome Yost's idiocy.
