  1. Since Inter have been approaching a youth-oriented rebuild (from what I've read, hope that's not incorrect), I was surprised to see them sell Coutinho to Liverpool. What was your reaction to that move, and do you think it was something the club did to facilitate the player's wishes? Or was it a move the club made in its own interest?
  2. This has to be their worst performance of the season. They look awful in every aspect of the game.
  3. Sweet jeebus, I thought Payne wasn't going to get up. Thank goodness he's ok.
  4. Not really expecting a win, but I'm still really getting excited for the UW-MSU game tonight. I'll be very interested to see how Dekker plays in his first visit to the Breslin.
  5. Great content. Thanks for sharing that.
  6. The Leyland/HR cannon story was hilarious. Thank you for sharing this.
  7. That's a really interesting point. You're right -- his enthusiasm is really what's signature on HR calls.
  8. Wow. It's even more astounding to me that Tom wasn't already following a high-profile peer in his own industry.
  9. Gotcha. I was speaking to the 20/20 hindsight part of the comment.
  10. That drives me crazy. Makes no sense.
  11. If they decide not to use Morris, it could easily be about not wanting to burn service time.
  12. Fwiw, at the time there were plenty of people on this board alone that strongly disliked either one or both of those picks. I remember being disappointed with the Jungmann pick & drinking the Kool-Aid on Bradley. And iirc the Melvin quip was about Jungmann alone, and that he could conceivably contribute at some point in '12. I took that to be Melvin answering a reporter's question (something like "Could Jungmann see the majors this season?") more than actively touting the prospect.
  13. I sure hope he doesn't, but at this point he'd be a leading candidate for so many jobs it's not even funny.
  14. Their report last offseason was a positive PED test for Braun.
  15. Jeff Bianchi (groin tightness) will not play for Italy. Link Also, the Brewers will be watching Gallardo in his start tonight for Mexico. As long as he pitches his scheduled one inning without any discomfort, the Brewers will sign off on his continued participation. Link
  16. Thanks, Reverend. I'll have to do some more digging to see if I can find it. And I'm definitely glad to hear that Ripper Street is getting another season. The attention to detail in the show is really impressive to me.
  17. Feb. 22nd Minor League Ball 2013 Draft Top 100 (not a Sickels piece). Pretty brief descriptions of the players, but this'll at least add some more names to be discussed here.
  18. Have you watched The Hour? I've had it recommended to me, but haven't found it on BBC America yet.
  19. It's refreshing to see an accurate description of Segura's current defensive ability, as opposed to an analyst heading into observing him believing that he'll see a player that will match the old reports of a decent 2B who won't cut it at SS, and then focusing on any & all instances where that bias is reinforced as rock-solid proof.
  20. Any other fans? I don't think I've caught every episode, but I'm completely hooked. Each episode I watch seems to be better than the last one. Wikipedia page IMDB page
  21. I'm not sure what, exactly, the answer would be... but the only thing I can lend is that, for certain directors, I tend to see a similar style from film to film (first one that jumps in my head here would be Eastwood). I haven't watched Argo yet, but I'll instantly be looking to see how it compares, stylistically, to The Town (& perhaps it won't at all). I think that some directors have the ability to affect their films on the macro level, whether that's through instructing contributors like DPs or editors, or simply choosing something like what time of day to film an exterior shot (for an example). I'm sure you'll get far better answers, but the similarities I feel like I notice in Eastwood's films were what jumped into my head upon reading your post.
  22. "The worst is when you try to do it halfway: when you think you can compete and you also think you're trying to rebuild. Then you're stuck in no-man's-land. You either do it or you don't." -- Billy Beane
  23. You're using the term "good team" quite liberally. 4 of these 8 seasons were .500 or worse, and only 2 of the 8 resulted in a postseason appearance. From '78-'82, the Brewers were consistently one of the best in the AL. This "run" has hardly outdone that... nor has it actually been a run, since it hasn't been consistent.
  24. Reddick is a free agent after this season, no?
