  1. Yeah, I agree that McClung will easily find another spot. Teams always seem willing to check out guys that can bring mid to upper-90s gas.
  2. They'd probably have to include Buchholz if they wanted to start talking about Miggy. Not sure if BOS would want to do that or not.
  3. Braun needs to make a hybrid Remetee wolf shirt. With Star Wars as well. And then send me a free dozen.
  4. TLB might be down with him but I still say boo.New. Favorite. Pitcher. I need to get ahold of a sweet new avatar somehow.
  5. If they get 2009-like production from Matsui (who played on bad knees all season), that's going to be a nice deal. His HR total will dip with leaving Yankee Stadium, but I still really like his approach & swing. I'm really a fan of Matsui, but physically he looks to be nearing the end of the road. Hard to play with chronically bad knees.
  6. I'm going to try to keep my eyes open for the "I still think I'm a .300 hitter" line from Kendall this coming spring
  7. I wish Cam all the best, as well. Kinda confusing to see him sign somewhere & not play CF, but he obviously got a nice payday. He K's a ton and seems to hit the homerun when it is needed the least, like when you are up by 5 in the top of the ninth. Just like pre-2009 postseason un-clutch A-Rod!
  8. Escobar isn't even close to Weeks, Hart will likely be better in 2010, McGehee should be better, and I think Gomez will be even money to be better than Alcides next season too. That statement is just way off-base. Somewhere down the road, Escobar might develop into the team's second or third-best hitter, but he's not even close to that yet.
  9. A one-year deal suggests to me that: Craig wasn't really in such high demand, he really wanted to stay with the Brewers, or a little bit of both. I'm glad this is done -- imo Counsell is about as good an IF reserve as you can find.
  10. Like others have said, I just don't trust Villanueva. What average RPs do any fans really 'trust'? Villy will have a strong season in the near future, and will probably have another bad one in the near future. McClung's control problems have always been his roadblock. It's what keeps him from being a valuable pitcher. Whether people trust CV or not, he's been the better pitcher without question over the two guys' careers.
  11. Same here. I hope Marquette's quickness & athleticism leads them up out of the middle of the pack in the Big East. I expect them to make the tourney unless injuries hold them back. They were really impressive (imo) on defense this past Saturday.
  12. He can't hurt us anymore He can't hurt us anymore He can't hurt us anymore...
  13. Yeah, the refs were bad, but I agree their suckage was pretty evenly distributed.
  14. Hayward was much better on defense, but I think you're right in terms of their offensive performances yesterday. Hayward also looks like he's got more range on his J.
  15. Sounds exactly like a guy the Brewers should try to buy low on (if that's possible)
  16. Villanueva had seven losses as a relief pitcher last year. That means that seven times he was handed the ball with the score tied or the Brewers leading and he gave up the winning run. The guy cracks under pressure. I know you know what small samples are, you just seem to ignore them oftentimes. Villanueva is what he is, a decent MR with FIPs & xFIPs in the low to mid-4s. MR production fluctuates a lot from year to year, so I'm sorry but talking about 17 IP here & 10 there while neglecting to talk about how things like strand rate & BABIP jump all around just doesn't tell you much about a reliever. I don't think the Brewers should just be looking to cut Villy loose like some seem to suggest, but I also don't think he's valued as an essential member of the bullpen.
  17. "In hindsight, [Cieslewicz] said he would have made a 'hybrid' decision, using some of the 30 vehicles to apply salt and the others to plow residential areas." So wait -- you can do both?!
  18. Bitter much? I thought Bucky looked pretty weak inside, personally. It was discouraging, because I hadn't felt that way about their performance down low so far this season (though I do think it's pretty obvious that Ryan doesn't have much quality depth there). MU should easily be in the middle of the Big East pack this year, and with such a good recruiting class for next year, will probably be the best team in WI then. Leuer, Hughes, Taylor all look great! I love Leuer's offensive game, but his D is frustrating. Imo he's still pretty much a tweener in terms of body type (but let me emphasize that I *love* what he can do in terms of scoring). I think he needs to work on getting either quicker or stronger. Given his style of play, I think getting quicker would be a better move (since it'd help on D as well), but getting stronger is probably more realistic. Taylor had a good game, and I still think Hughes is one of the best all-around Gs/PGs in the country. This UW team is capable of making a really deep run this March, as long as they don't face a team with a legit post threat (or threats) early on.
  19. FanGraphs has him with the following arsenal (avg. velocities in parentheses): FB (88.5) CH (78.8) CB (73.8) SL (83.3) So far (admittedly small sample) in MLB, it looks like the curve has been his best pitch.
  20. Rosenthal's speculation is that Lee will want to hit free agency instead of hammering out an extension. Halladay, meanwhile, is basically requiring a contract extension in order to approve the trade. That's if I'm remembering the article correctly.
  21. Bush and Correia actually have identical 5.04 tRA in their career and their xFIP are almost identical as well with Bush having a slight advantage. They are pretty comperable pitchers. I'd love to add another Dave Bush to our pitching staff, especially if he replaces Suppan.
  22. This is a couple days old, but I didn't see it posted here. FanGraphs link
  23. Beyond sitting behind Lee & Jenks, Hart also couldn't get PT ahead of Kevin freaking Mench for a while. I think you're right that it's not necessarily a trend, though.
  24. Hah, nice catch, Invader. He even made sure to mention his previous manager. If Macha seemed like a better manager, I guess his apparent lack of rapport with some/many players wouldn't bother me as much. Thanks to big Seth... I still wish we could've seen you launch a pitch a country mile into the Dew Deck, but as others have mentioned your contributions in that magical '08 season will not be soon forgotten. Good luck to you, Not-Coffey http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  25. Understood on the mental aspect. I still don't want to see a full year's service time given to a young player/catcher & only see him make 60-70 starts. Just a different approach, I guess. As for the ideal situation: I'd love to see the Brewers keep both guys in the org., but at some point their shared position & basically shared age means the Brewers would likely do best to move one of them. I'd rather turn one of them into a useful player or players at different positions than see one become the other's backup. But again, I'm not complaining. I'm really excited to see how both of these guys do in 2010.
