  1. From what I've seen, I agree with pretty much all of your assessments. I've been saying that the Bucks may have the best bench in the NBA, the only problem being that most are starters. They are a team of 6th men as key starters with some deeper rotation guys. Their point guards are that in name only. I can't believe how much Ridnour has fallen off in the past few years, he was really good his first stint, but he is toast.
  2. It's really sad that things have gotten to the point that we are talking about old guys with no power and no real experience at first and/or a bunch of AAAA guys at best. I think that Melvin was banking on Hart coming back and didn't have any backup plan in place. Hopefully, he can pull of some Carlos Lee type deal out of the blue, or I think that they are really going to regret not matching the offer for Hart. All indications are that they are really scaling back the payroll this season in the wake of the Lohse/Ramirez signings ($27 million bucks tied up with those two).
  3. Is there a DeLosSantos available on the wire? I'm banking on that, or some lefty reliever who doesn't break 87 on the gun.
  4. Would Young sign for 2 million? If Melvin gives him more than that, I would be irate. I really don't see any positives to bringing him in, unless he's really cheap. Otherwise, it seems like a Bando-esque 'vet leadership' move. Assuming that he can stay healthy (and that's a big assumption at his age), if he puts up numbers similar to his has the past few years, I'll just take my chances with the internal candidates.
  5. Cool idea. Especially since the Walk of Fame is tougher to get into than the actual Hall of Fame seemingly. Let's face it, the Brewers have neither a long or illustrious history, so the list isn't going to be full of baseball immortals. I think this is a great way for them to stay connected to some of their 'alumni'. Lots of names on the list evoke good memories for me, so it would be fun to see them back in Milwaukee and honored in a small way.
  6. I'd go with Rivers without even a thought. Look at what some QB's have done against Oakland... Foles 7TD's, Smith with a career game last week, etc., etc. Rivers himself dropped over 400 yards on them last time.
  7. An arena would have to be downtown to have any major impact on the community- financially and otherwise. The only way they are probably going to be able to sell this to get some public financing is as part of a bigger entertainment/revitalization project downtown. Actually, from what I remember, the Bradley Center was actually supposed to be in the parking lot of County Stadium. Even then, that didn't make much sense.
  8. I was not aware that Michael Young was a 'true first baseman'. What does he bring to the table here and would he be willing to accept an 85% pay cut.
  9. I've kicked around an idea of Weeks for Lind/Romero in my head a bit. It would be a pretty big risk, but Lind actually was pretty good last year, and from what I've read, Romero's issues are more mental/delivery than physical. I saw that the Jays were trying to dump Lind a few weeks ago to clear salary, but I have to wonder if they'd kick some money back just to rid themselves of Romero. Weeks is owed only about half of those two....maybe the Jays would kick in $5 million or so. The Jays asked for Walker when the Pirates asked about Lind. Why would the Jays trade Lind/Romero for Weeks? Dumping Romero's salary would probably be the only motivation. He was available in the Rule 5 draft with no takers. They do need a second baseman, though I'm not sure Weeks would be their dream scenario. That said, for the past few winters, they would have done handstands if they had found a taker for Lind.
  10. I've kicked around an idea of Weeks for Lind/Romero in my head a bit. 11. I can think of several million reasons ($) that Weeks will not be going anywhere until/unless he stinks up the joint for at least half a season. He's going to be given every opportunity to keep his job, which I think is the smart move. Anyone that thinks Weeks is going to be cut or dumped has to remember that this is the organization that kept running out Jeff Suppan for starts even though that meant almost a guaranteed loss. Even if Rickie picks up where he left off last season, he will have nowhere near the same negative impact on the team.
  12. I don't see the Mets trading Davis for Fiers alone. If that's the case, I think the deal would have already been made because Fiers fell behind a lot of guys in the pecking order last season. At this point though, I hope they can do a deal for Davis. If they end up giving Loney a multi-year deal after letting Hart walk for a few million, my head will explode.
  13. Is it just me or does Loney remind anyone else of Franklin Stubbs? Scary thought, and he was also seen as the missing LH piece that the lineup needed. I would rather they beg Gamel to come back. Just an extremely disappointing off season thus far.
  14. I don't think that Hart is going to get much more than Morneau did. That's not really that much money, so if the Brewers won't go that high, I'd have to question either the prognosis on his knees or the Brewers' sanity after the debacle at first base last year. If Hart is demanding 3 years, I can understand the hesitance, but I wouldn't have a problem with 2/15 considering that both Ramirez and Weeks will be off the books after this year. As for Morrison, I really don't get the excitement. He seems to be regressing, and outside of a couple of seasons, he's never really shown much power in the majors or minors. He kind of looks like a poor man's Overbay (Brewers-era) to me. Definitely preferable to Francisco, but I certainly wouldn't give up much of value for him.
  15. http://i.bnet.com/blogs/drevil.jpg Maybe this isn't too insane. For goodness sake, Robinson Cano just got a quarter of that.
  16. This deal is just absurd. Obviously, the bean counters for the Mariner brain trust are confident in their revenue projections for the future, but this one could be a franchise killer if something goes awry.
  17. I don't like this deal one bit. Are the Brewers planning on going with an all RH hitting lineup, or does this signal that they see Gennett as a suitable replacement at the top of the order? Also, is it me, or does Melvin tend to buy high on relievers (And yes, despite what Melvin said today, I see him as strictly a reliever.). Smith certainly doesn't seem to have a ton of upside, especially enough to give up a solid lead off hitter who was probably in the top half of NL starting outfielders last year... and who is also dirt cheap this season. If I hear the term 'cost-controlled' again, my head will explode. Why does this deal remind me of the Vina/Acevedo deal so much?
  18. Would like to see him back on a NRI, but I doubt that it happens. It does make sense on a lot of levels though for both parties.
  19. What are the Tigers doing? They appear to be in fire sale mode. I'm not a huge fan of Fister, but this makes no sense whatsoever.
  20. I like this deal for the Rangers. I see Kinsler largely as a product of the Ballpark, and he also seems to be on the decline. It's not like he's cheap either- owed over $60 milllion.... add the $30 million in, and the Tigers will be paying $90 million for the 32-35 years of Ian Kinsler. Prince is younger, a much better hitter/run producer, and has only missed a few games in the past several years. Even if he is used as a DH, the numbers he puts up in Arlington should make this deal a win for the Rangers.
  21. They played pretty well tonight... in their own way. I guess that they own the Celtics. I see that the Jazz won tonight as well, so they held serve too. I bet that this won't happen much again this year (Bucks/Jazz winning on the same day).
  22. On average, they have been down by 8.6 points at halftime. That's just pathetic. I can only think of 3-4 games where they haven't been down by at least 12-15 points at some point (generally almost right from the gate). They are just really hard to watch, boring as paint drying, even the young guys are kind of blah to me. I've been turning the channel earlier and earlier- feel like a fair weather fan, but just can't find any compelling reason to watch this. How are they going to get anyone to actually show up at the games this winter?
  23. Injured guys returning or not, this team is still going to be brutal. From what I've seen so far, this is the worst Bucks team that I can remember. They cannot score the ball, just brutal to watch. I really don't think that there is one team in the East with less talent than the Bucks, and the only team in the league that looks comparable/worse to this point is Utah. We are going to see first hand how tanking works... and if Hammond put this team together actually thinking it had a chance to compete, I don't want him anywhere close to the rebuild process.
