  1. This team is pretty much unwatchable. I'll be shocked if they don't have one of the 3 worst records in the league.
  2. A package like that might get the deal done, but I wouldn't give up anything close to that. I think that they'd have to take Ramirez back as well to keep the payroll at semi-realistic levels.
  3. Hardly. It will take hardly that much.. All it might take is the willingness to eat 106 million and give up Henderson. the word is out they want to salary dump fielder for "something" in return to sign there FA boras client Scherzer. So the Tigers are going to eat roughly $60 million for Henderson and maybe someone else of little consequence? I don't see it. Prince had a down year, but he's still one of the best run producers in the league. They may be willing to trade Fielder and eat some money for a decent package, but Henderson sure isn't going to get it done.
  4. I really don't think the division is that tough. The Cardinals have a bunch of good young arms, but they are going to lose Beltran and a lot of guys in that offense overachieved last year. The Pirates don't really knock my socks off either... so/so lineup with a bunch of pitchers that overachieved last year. The Reds are still looking good on paper too, but I wouldn't write the Brewers off just yet.
  5. Detroit is not going to take scraps for Fielder in a pure salary dump. If Braun was not embroiled in a scandal, they'd do that, but no one is going to want that circus coming to town (nor would the Brewers make the deal with no scandal). You will need a mixture of big money and/or prospects to get this done, and the Brewers have neither. I'm a big Prince guy and I'd like to see him come back, but lets wait a few more years when someone is really trying to dump that salary. I wouldn't be surprised to see the NL have the DH by then.
  6. It would be tempting, but no. I don't want to revisit the black hole at shortstop.
  7. From this list, I'd vote for Parker and Garvey, grudgingly for LaRussa as well.
  8. Sounds good. The Bucks look like they are going to have some big time problems scoring, it looks like scoring 90 on a consistent basis is going to be a challenge for them. Hope that I'm wrong, but this looks to be an incredibly boring team to watch.
  9. I wouldn't see any harm in a non-roster invite, but I can't imagine him being any better than he was in 2011. He was on the Johnny Estrada hurt knee/gain weight diet.
  10. The next hire that they make in Chicago will be telling. I'd be very surprised if they hire a 'name' manager like Girardi, because it would ratchet up the heat on everyone down there.
  11. I'd probably bet the under 29 for wins. I think that wins in the division (both Cleveland and Detroit look improved) and against Western conference opponents are going to be few and far between... I'm guessing that most of their wins will come against the dregs of the East. A couple of key injuries and this team could be really bad.
  12. Looks like there were no hard feelings with Yost toward Sveum as to how September 2008 went down. I give Ned a ton of credit in how he handled that whole deal... it had to have been pretty humiliating for him to get fired the way he did, yet I've never heard of him saying one negative thing about the Brewers organization.
  13. I am pretty upset about this move. I still think that Gamel can be a good player at the MLB level. If the Brewers needed a roster spot, they should have sold Francisco to the Yakult Swallows.
  14. Yost could not handle a bullpen to save his life, but other than that, I really think that he gets an unfair shake with a lot of Brewer fans. Personally, I think he did a great job bridging the dark days of Dean Taylor and Jerry Royster back to playoff contention.
  15. I didn't say it would be a good deal, but it's probably one of the only possible trade scenarios for Weeks without eating cash or taking a ton of salary back. On the Blue Jays note, I was thinking about Adam Lind but he has a buyout. He's actually been showing signs of being a MLB hitter again. Unless there is someone I'm forgetting about, the Jays are definitely in need of a second baseman. I bet that they'd do Weeks/Romero in a heartbeat if the Brewers wanted to dump a few million in salary. Horrible alternatives aside, I think that the best way to go is to hold on to Rickie and hope that he plays for another contract.
  16. I bet that the Braves would be all over a Weeks/Uggla swap. The only issue is that Uggla has an extra year on his deal... and has actually been worse than Rickie at the plate.
  17. Arizona and their fans have been incredibly irritating to me since the home run derby nonsense a few years back. They are right there with the Cardinals and Giants in the highest horse competition.
  18. It seems like an incentive laden deal with a mutual option would be the way to go with Hart.
  19. Simmons with a very low OBP in '84, and I assume that's strongly correlated with WAR. What an awful year that was, seems like a lot of guys aged 5 years overnight.
  20. Come on guys, I didn't fall off the turnip truck yesterday. Great gesture, but I guarantee that it was thought up by some PR people as part of a bigger plan. He didn't want publicity? Come on. In this day and age, Joe Q. Brewerfan gets a personal call from Braun and he doesn't immediately send out dozens of texts, post on twitter and on numerous blogs? Also, this gives Braun the opportunity to 'face the music' on a private scale- I guarantee that they are taking notes, and using these conversations to gauge the fanbase's perception and maybe prep Braun for some tough questions that he didn't anticipate being asked. Great PR move, and it will be interesting to see the next step. As for people taking exception to my suggestion that he redoes his contract, as far as I'm concerned he got that deal under false pretenses. What if someone had a job with an accounting firm and it was found that they cheated on their CPA exams? I imagine that they would be fired, especially if they weren't doing their job properly. Players union be darned, if Braun really wanted to redo the deal he could. If he did his part on the field, it would be a moot point anyway. Like I said, it would never happen though.
  21. This is a great gesture, though almost assuredly the brainchild of some creative PR firm. Looks like they are going to try a grassroots approach. I'd expect Braun to find one 'friendly face' in the local media to work with next. All that said, I think a better gesture would be for Braun to offer to redo his contract to offer the Brewers a buyout after 2015. I know that's not happening though.
  22. That is one of the few drafts that I second guessed right from the start, but not for Bailey. They should have taken Weaver, Boras or not.
  23. I'm pretty sure that someone claimed Willingham on waivers and they pulled him back. All this talk of the Pirates picking up vets reminds me of one of my favorite Onion sports articles ever. http://www.theonion.com/articles/pirates-acquire-lee-ludwick-to-bolster-2ndhalf-col,21073/
  24. I think that 'Baseball Dad' gets some of the blame for this, and would guess that the rise in 'organized' youth baseball may be positively correlated. How often do you see a couple of young kids playing catch when you are out driving around? Hardly ever for me. When I was a kid I threw some type of a spherical object almost every day that there wasn't snow on the ground. Not competitive pitching, but just playing catch or hotbox or even pitching wiffle ball or just chucking a ball against a wall. These days, I have a feeling that Junior would be on a between starts training regimen preparing for his start the coming weekend's 8-9 Class 2C sanctioned tourney in Beaver Dam. Also, when I was young, most kids didn't even start pitching until they were 11 or 12 years old. From what I hear, it's much younger these days. I think that our little league seasons may have been 12-15 games in their entirity, and I'd guess that would be about two weeks for today's traveling teams. Bottom line, I feel that less throwing at a young age combined with many more competitive innings in youth ball probably plays a role in all these injuries we are seeing at the pro level these days.
  25. I guess the Mets like doing salary dumps for guys named Herrera.
