  1. Before he went to Toronto, Paul Molitor was "hurt all the time" too.
  2. I'm beginning to think that there is much more to this story than we know. Combining Sheets' statements at the end of the year with this seeming apathy towards him by the team, I gotta thing some serious stuff went down between Sheets and the team that we do not know about. Why else would they not pursue him?
  3. Yuck.. Sheets is heads and shoulders above both of them. I wouldn't be happy if this went down. Kind of like taking Marquis Grissom so the Indians could sign Lofton.
  4. No way could Patterson be worse than Laynce Nix, but I'm not sure that's a strong selling point.
  5. First let me get in my weekly "I don't get why people here want David DeJesus" post..... That taken care of, I don't get the love for Kelly Johnson here either. In my opinion, he would be a downgrade from Weeks. He strikes out just about as much and makes errors at about the same clip - all without the power potential and speed. What does he bring that Weeks doesn't? Do they need lefthanded bats that bad? I bet the Braves would trade Johnson for Weeks right now with no hesitation.
  6. Agreed. He is the David DeJesus of pitchers on this board. If the Giants want Hardy, they will have to do much better than that. The only way that I trade Hardy is if Cain is coming back in the deal, or if the Giants take Suppan off our hands too.
  7. Good deal. Pick up about four more of these "plus arm" guys at less than $3 million each for the pen.
  8. No way do I give Fuentes $30 million. I would rather give the money to Sheets for a two year deal, and try to get Kerry Wood and a couple of other "plus" arms for the pen.
  9. Apparently, Fuentes wants a three year deal at about $10 million per. That's absolutely insane, and cements my disinterest in signing him.
  10. Because Co Co Crisp isn't available anymore, that's why. As I've stated before here, I'm not a DeJesus fan. He doesn't do anything particularly well. I just don't get all the man love for a singles hitter who might hit .290, but with no discernible power or speed. Is it solely because he hits lefthanded, or are one of his Moneyball stats off the charts? For his career, he averages about 11 at bats per extra base hit. No way would I give up anything more than spare parts for him. Definitely not Weeks or Hart.

  14. Wow. I take it this Emilio Bonifacio guy is much better than he looks on paper. I couldn't believe the Nats traded Rausch for him, and now this? What am I missing?
  15. Could Hoffman convince Peavy to recind his no-trade clause to the Brewers? If so, I am all for it.
  16. Why are some so down on Randolph? A bench coach should know his stuff, and know the players in the league. Seems to me like Randolph would have a wealth of experience for Macha to bounce ideas off, seeing as he played for 17 years in the majors and coached for several years for World Championship teams, and managed in the league for the past several years. I guess since he once played for the Brewers he should be disqualified though. Guess you guys would rather have Kremblas who did, well......nothing in the majors.
  17. Pass. Why would you trade one of CC's good friends to the team that is the top threat to sign him away? Sounds like shooting yourself in the foot to me...Kind of like when Sal Bando took Grissom off the Indians hands to free up cash on their part to sign Lofton. Not to mention the fact that Cabrera is probably a backup OF at best on a good team. If they wanted to involve Hughes in a deal for Cameron/prospect and/or take Suppan off our hands I may listen, but not for guys like Cabrera or Betemit.
  18. OK......"scrub" was probably to harsh of a term for these guys, but no way am I giving Ibanez a big contract. He's going to be 37 next year, and is Carlos Lee-escque in the field. Guys tend to start hitting the wall at 37. I don't like Fuentes either, mostly because he is going to get way too much money for a 34 year old closer. The Brewers have had success every year Melvin has been here pulling closers from nowhere, basically on the cheap. He'll probably push 8-10 million for three years, which would be OK for a dominant closer, but not Fuentes. It seems like every time I watch him pitch, he puts himself into some sort of jam before he gets the save.
  19. Obvious move. Now bring Mark Loretta in to take this role (like they should have in 2007) and I'll be happy. This team needs some veterans who can actually hit on the bench.
  20. I'm against signing any of these scrubs (Fuentes/Bird/Ibanez, etc.). They will all be overpriced. Why overpay for mediocrity? I'd rather drop the entire budget on one proven star like CC. Every year, there are plenty of serviceable veterans who slip through the cracks and are available on the cheap in January and February. I'd rather fill the roster out with guys like that on one year deals than give one of these guys a multi-year deal.
  21. The City of Madison is cruisin' for a bruisin' tomorrow night. They want to keep the out of town element away from State Street, so they book a popular national act (taking the stage at midnight) and increase the "ticket sales" to 50,000? Not too smart.
  22. I'll do it for Zimmerman and Milledge. That would fill two holes. I'm such a nice guy I'll throw Billy Hall in as well.
  23. If he found that Ponderosa on 76th, he may be on the loo for most the rest of the night.....
  24. The way he was talking in interviews at the end of the season, he sounded like he already had one foot out the door. Usually guys spout cliches as to how they would love to come back, but Sheets did not. I think he probably already knows where he is going to end up.
