  1. Talk about biting the hands that feed you. Why would they want to attack an industry that in driving interest in the game? I guess the $100 Gazillion they are currently squeezing the fans for is not enough.

  3. Sharp post. Not sure when it became "trendy" to own a Honda, Toyota or the like, but it's the thing to do these days for the young, hip, intellectual crowd - kind of like getting a tattoo or watching "The Office". Kind of funny how the same people who won't shop at Walmart will blissfully drive to Whole Foods in their Accords.
  4. Strangely enough, the first player that I remember having a tattoo in the NBA was Toni Kukoc in the early-mid 90's.
  5. How about a 1964 (ish) to 1970 slide dealing with the Braves leaving town (lame duck 1965, the litigation surrounding the move), the White Sox home games, and Selig's efforts to bring back baseball?
  6. Cool post... I agree that the Gorman trade was the worst trade in franchise history. Trade a guy fresh off a homer crown for a guy who turned out to be one of the worst Brewers ever. Manning was just awful. The day the glory days ended was when Gorman got traded. I think number two might be the Darrell Porter deal with KC after the 76 season. They basically gave away a top 10 catcher (albeit one with a raging drug problem) for Bob McClure. Don't get me wrong, McClure was decent, but Wohlford and Quirk were bad. As far as good trades, I think you would have to rank the Caldwell acquisition in the top 5. Dumping Jose Cardinal on the Cubs for Jim Colborn would probably be top 10 for me as well.
  7. As a G.M. I'd say Taylor ranked somewhere between Matt Millen and Bando. He was horrendous on his moves on the major league level, and not many of his draftees have ever made an impact in the majors. His two saving graces were the Sexson trade and hiring Jack Z.. While nice moves, they are not enough to offset the damage that he did to this team.
  8. I wouldn't mind seeing them make a run at Rich Harden. The only problem is that he makes Sheets look durable. Maybe they could get him for a slight discount due to his injury history and impending free agency
  9. I would hate to see where this team would be right now with Estrada behind the dish. Kendall has been one of the best free agent signings this team has made in years. The guy is a true pro.
  10. Great question. Even though it can be argued that hitting coaches really don't factor into the equation much, maybe it's time to can him to shake things up a bit. This offense is pathetic.
  11. That wasn't Simmons, it was Larry Doughtry
  12. Not sure if the MPD is to blame, but it seems that there is a ton more violent "stranger on stranger" crime in Madison these days. Muggings, carjackings, murders, etc. There are also lots of "bad areas" in town now. Not even twenty years ago, that wasn't the case. Madison is quickly becoming Rockford with two lakes and a capital building.
  13. Same here, this thread has caught my eye a few times this weekend. Good to see someone else was thinking the same thing...
  14. Zyrtec hands down for me and I've tried them all. Props to Nasonex nasal spray too.
  15. Cant say I blame him. He didn't trash the city or the organization, so I don't really have any problem with what he said. It does frustrate the heck out of me that he has seemingly had more big hits against the Brewers the past two years than he did in 3 full seasons with them, but that goes without saying.
  16. Here is my critique. Catcher and first look good (though I agree that Scott had a heck of a year in '75). For second, I'd take the '79 version of Molitor ahead of '87, because he played very little at second that year. Robin at short is a no-brainer. I'm going to rock the boat a little bit and go with Tailwind Tommy Harper (1970) at third. In the outfield, I'm taking Ben Oglivie (1980) in left(though had he not been traded, Vaughn (1996) would be here), Gorman (1979) in center, and Lezcano (1979) in right. My DH would be Hisle (1978). Your bench looks pretty good. As for pitching, I'd remove Sutton and replace him with Jim Colborn (1973). I'd keep Bosio, but I would use the 1992 version instead of 1989. I agree with everything else. I'd give honorable mention on the starting staff to Moose Haas (1983) and Cal Eldred (1992). For relievers I'd replace Wickman with Doug Jones (1997) everything else is good though.
  17. Geez, it's April 12. I'll hold judgment on Weeks until at least June. Last year, he was a stud the first two weeks and we all know what happened next.
  18. I think Davidson would have won the Big Ten this year if they were in the conference.
  19. I say they should let Gwynn play every day. Let's see what he can do when he knows he will be in the lineup every day.
  20. Don't buy many cards anymore, but one time I bought a box of cards that was supposed to have an autographed card in it (I think it was some Score product). I didn't get one and contacted the company via email including such info as where I bought the box and the serial number. A few weeks later, they sent me a package with two autographs (Chris Chambers was one) and a few other insert cards. I've heard that the entire process is hit or miss, depending on what company you are dealing with, and I don't know how the damaged card thing works. Now there's basically only two companies right?
  21. Go to the U area and find the bar that has the best Monday night drink special, that would probably be your best bet to find a place with people. My guess is that downtown will be pretty dead unless there is a show somewhere. From my experience, Monday nightlife was slow up there, even on campus.
  22. I'm going to counter the positive U.S. Cellular comments by recommending that you run far away from their kiosk. The best cell phone provider that I've had (of several) would definitely be Verizon. Not one issue in the past 3.5 years.
  23. At least we won't have to listen to Uke talk about playing with his dad for the millionth time this season.
  24. OK. Maybe I'm missing something, but can somebody tell me what the heck Sampson actually did? Everybody is ripping him to shreds about being a cheater, but the only detail that I've found on what he did was something about illegal phone calls to recruits. The entire ESPN report last night didn't mention one specific thing he had done. I'm not defending him by any means, but when other crooked coaches like Clem Haskins and Dave Bliss went down, the allegations were much more detailed.
  25. I agree. In hindsight, it's easy to say they should have taken Paul, but he wasn't projected as a realistic top 2 pick at the time. Is was either Bogut or Williams, and I'm glad they took Bogut. I expected Bogut to be a Brad Daugherty type player at the time, and he's really only played slightly below the expectations that I had for him. He's improved quite a bit this season.
