  1. Yea, but it would take like two weeks for players to adjust and then no more need to call the corners like that anymore. Very simple solution. But that was my compromise, if we don't want to try that then I'm fine with the current pace of play.
  2. Pretty fun watching Argentina self destruct.
  3. I dismiss the premise the game needs to pick up the pace of play. Baseball was not built for constant excitement, and wasn't meant to be on the clock. The only changes I would make is getting rid of the stupid automatic intentional walk, and getting rid of instant replay. Do you want it in the playoffs? Fine, I can compromise there. Otherwise the game is just fine the way it is. Quite honestly, most of the suggestions I've seen here (and other threads where this topic has come up over the years) sound crazy to me. Limiting when you can bring a pitcher in, calling a ball if you throw to first, etc. I can't fathom watching that. You want to speed up the game? Don't make any new rules, just add (or emphasize) an unwritten rule. Make it known to pitchers if they take too long, they may not get calls on the corners. Same thing for batters. Do that, and players will learn to hurry up, believe me.
  4. Adam, after that post about trying to speed up the game you are no longer Sogard. You have been promoted straight to Robin Yount. Dead on 100%.
  5. I can't decide if I want to be Sogard or Munoz in this comparison. Both options suck. From the thousands of posts, and don't hold me to this... Adam= Sogard Brew= Munoz
  6. Almost no hitter, almost bench clearing brawl, bomb to tie it, walk off bomb to win it. Yawwwwwn Anyone who wasn't entertained by that, go watch rollerball or sonething.
  7. Not even close, way more kids play basketball. Ultra-organized teams/leagues have nothing to do with it. Kids that age are playing basketball on the playground, each other's house, etc. None of this is even a debate really. The problem isn't financial. The best athletes choose other sports. If soccer was uber-popular, the best athletes would play it and USA would be dominant.
  8. Not sure I follow. This article specifically says 40% of kids play basketball, 20% soccer. Plus, you've been talking about inner-city kids. Inner-city kids do not play more soccer than basketball. Your argument seems to be shifting. You've been saying inner-city kids can't afford to play soccer, now you're saying they play soccer more than basketball?
  9. You're talking about the higher levels. Inner city kids (and most suburban and rural kinds for that matter) have no interest in playing at the U7, U8, etc. level. It doesn't matter how much the traveling teams costs (which could subsidize a player if they're good enough anyhow.) If they're not playing when they're young, they certainly won't be playing on a traveling team later, even it was free. Cost has nothing to do with kids not wanting to play soccer.
  10. I mean it's the 17th pick, you're lucky to get a guy who will even be in the league in a couple years. So I'm fine with this pick. His floor is Deli, basically. And that's not a negative, Deli has at least been an NBA player for many years. Not a bad floor at 17th pick in the draft. But The Big Ragu is a better athlete and has a better jumper, so his ceiling is higher that that. Will be very interesting to see what Coach Bud can get out of these young players, and how soon. Maker, Brown, and Ragu all have potential to help this team win more games.
  11. Depends what the meaning of "is" is. Last two starts he's pitched far better than a solid 4/5. Go back a month and probably more like a solid 4. Those terms don't mean anything to me anyhow, all that matters is he's getting the job done.
  12. You proved yourself wrong without realizing it. Football is a more expensive sport than soccer, yet inner city kids are playing it. Why? Because they want to play basketball and football, not soccer. If they wanted to play soccer, there would soccer fields in all the parks. Remember when baseball fields were everywhere? Not anymore, and not just in the inner-city. (At least in WI.)
  13. A better question may be why turn the world upside down to get Zach Davies in the rotation? Why in the world would you mess with a formula that's working? Not saying it could never work for any team, ever. But trying it with this team at this time sort of seems like doing it just to be cute.
  14. Can't wait to hear the cards complain how the scoreboard ribbons distract them from handling routine ground balls.
  15. Ain't that a nice problem to have? What? Having Davies, Miley, Woodruff, Burnes, and maybe Nelson available as starters if needed? Yeah, nice problem to have.
  16. As of today, there's no room for them in the rotation. We've been trying to kick Suter out all season, and hes having none of that.
