  1. Interesting they go with the all RH line-up, except Yelich for Santana. Not saying I disagree, just pretty telling.
  2. I know this is what most people are thinking, or some version of it. I'm not buying it. Early June, it's not the hug series people are making it out to be. Would it be good for the fans to win or even sweep the series? Sure, I'll give you that. But in the great scheme of things, it doesn't mean much of anything compared to any other series. I don't buy the players will lose any confidence if they lose the series, and I don't buy the Cubs would somehow "have their number." Fans and media look at things like that, I get it.
  3. Not sure if I'm kidding or not, but I would rather lose a game or two this year with Arcia than watching Miller/Perez play SS the rest of the season.
  4. Are you saying Miller would weaken them offensively at 2B? Seems like it would be a push at 2B offensively between Villar/Miller.
  5. He was a bad SS when he last played the position, and hasn't played there in 2 years. What is a handful of AAA starts at SS going to do for him? Will that solve all of his defensive shortcomings? Seeing Arcia go down and the dropoff defensively watching Sogard man SS really opened my eyes to how valuable Arcia is. I remember one game specifically after Arcia was sent down that Sogard didn't make 2 plays that I know Arcia would have made. And Miller is an even worse defender than Sogard at SS. With our mediocre at best SP situation, we can't afford to put extra runners on base. Our SP isn't going to work around trouble as easily as our bullpen or other SP staffs. I think for better or worse, we stick with Arcia until Saladino is back. Maybe then we can send Arcia to AAA to work on his approach and offense. That makes a lot of sense to me. And I agree, if Miller is that bad defensively at SS I don't want him there at all. No room for him at 1B, they already have 2 1/2 people there. I guess that means he's going to share time somehow with Villar at 2B? Maybe Villar plays some SS, or even 3B vs LHP?
  6. So, adding Miller, Thames coming back, and Saladino ready soon there will be big decisions to make. What would you do? First, they need to decide if they're going to carry 13 position players as long as possible. They could keep playing the options game with the pitching staff, and effectively use 13-15 pitchers, with only 12 on the 25 man at any one time. Seems like they could do this indefinitely all season, it seems to be working and opens up a roster spot for a bat. So then you have a 5 man bench. Backup catcher is one, so there are four spots left. I think it starts with what you want to do with Arcia and Santana. They need regular ABs, whether it be in Milwaukee or CS. If they both stay, bench looks like this: Santana Miller Saladino Perez Sogard- OUT I'm struggling trying to figure out a line-up vs RHP and LHP. And it all comes back to whether Arcia and/or Santana are around again. If Villar starts at 2B vs RHP, where does Miller play? Do we really want him playing SS that many games? Struggling to figure out where/when Miller is going to play. Saladino is fine, at least for now, as the UT. You don't need to force any platoon splits with him. The other thing that bother me is after all the shuffling Perez is still around. I honestly don't feel much better having him on the roster than Sogard. There must be a better option for the 25th guy on the roster? Anyhow, just my random thoughts, interested in other opinions.
  7. Without the snark, how would you rate the following defensively at SS: Miller Villar Perez Sogard Saladino Just curious what the spread is between these guys.
  8. Moore and Hager are out-hitting him. Orf is like the vast majority of players, never making it to MLB. He's not special, no right to expect to make it.
  9. Should have thought of this a long time ago. No idea it was that easy.
  10. Yea, that makes sense. But sort of defeats the purpose of the "stat" of Quality START doesn't it? Also got me to thinking, if that's what they're using to define QS, then the Brewers must lead the league (or very close ) in quality finishes too. However you want to define that- 1.5 runs or less in 6th-9th?
  11. Plus, why would the Mets trade them? Also, I don't trust dealing with the Mets. Brewers have plenty to deal at MLB level and the minors. Just doesn't make sense for either side.
  12. There is no way I would empty the farm for a SP. Brewers simply can't afford to take a risk like that, one injury away from being a disaster of a move. This whole ace pitcher thing is not worth chasing. You keep developing players and hope you stumble into one. But it is not the only way to win the WS, and you're still far from guaranteed winning one if you have an ace. Mets have both these guys and look at how they're struggling. Tells you it takes far more than an ace or even two to win it all. Someone mentioned earlier this move would make the Brewers the favorite in the NL. No, it would not.
  13. Objective isn't to find ABs for Santana. He can solve that himself if he starts hitting better. It's about winning games, and if Thames and Aguilar are both hitting, they need to play.
  14. That's all good and well, but how scrappy is he?
  15. I don't either, and thought with all the OF depth Thames in LF is something we would never see this year. The only way I see it happening is if Aguilar heats up again, and Braun/Santana don't. When they get into these offensive slumps as a team, the bats play.
  16. I agree. Wouldn't it be great if we had the same reputation for batters that the Braves had with pitching in the 90's. The Braves always seemed to keep their best pitching prospects and trade the ones who weren't very good. They were so successful it actually started to impact the view of the prospect if they were willing to trade them. I understand the need at times to trade prospects to add complementary players to the organization/ML team, but not at the expense of the players that actually develop into above average major league talent. We should be trading the prospects we don't see a future when they have value. I know much of this occurred on the Melvin watch, so we may see a completely different result with Stearns. yes it is impossible to tell how his trajectory changed due to the trade to Cleveland. My main concern is that we were taking on a rental for several months with Sabbathia and even with a legendary performance by him we only just made the playoffs, yet we gave up a prospect who developed into an above average OF, while the prospects we held onto fizzled (or as you state we traded - Cain) and we had zero other OF prospects develop and contribute since then (except of course trading Hanigar as part of the Parra trade that ended with ZD). Man if I ever meet Doug Melvin I'm gonna punch him in the face.... A wise man once said (earlier this week): I don't find anything in life that is black and white and I am amazed people can treat so many things as bits. Irony is a beautiful thing.
  17. Far too early in his career to declare 2017 his "career year" isn't it?
  18. Burnes. Simply because Peralta's ceiling is higher. If he can work out his control issues, there's your TOR starter we've been talking about for years. Burnes could be a dent starter, but I feel like there are other Burnes in the system. Not to mention cheap guys like Chacin you can find to do the same thing. That's not a knock on him, I just think it's a relatively easy decision for me Peralta vs Burnes.
  19. I would agree that, given what he's done since he left, letting him go for nothing was a mistake. But despite his good numbers, he doesn't fit the athletic and versatility profile Stearns seems to target with his up-the-middle players. No one really knows what would have happened had the Brewers hung onto him, but if I had to guess, I'd say that his production wouldn't be anywhere near what it has been in Cincy, where he is playing with really no pressure or without having to look over his shoulder. Yea, I get the lack of versatility. That's why he was released to begin with. But when you have other players like Villar and Perez who can play multiple positions it really wasn't that necessary. We'll never know, but I do believe he would be almost as productive if he stayed in Milwaukee. Slugging may be a little lower, but that's about it. I don't buy that he'll revert back to being a .725ish hitter. He has steadily improved, hits LHP much better, and more consistent power.
  20. As long as they don't trade Peralta or Hiura, I'm open to any deal.
  21. Letting Scooter go was a mistake, no reason for us to get defensive about it. I understand why the move was made, and it made sense at the time, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a mistake.
  22. Every year can't be an outlier, pretty much the opposite of the definition. Santana has always had power until this season. Who knows, he's trying to focus on higher OBP and lower slugging. Or, it could be temporary and he will hit a bunch of bombs in the 2nd half of the year.
  23. I read the article. Really doesn't say anything at all that means anything. Good family, religious family, yada yada. Doesn't change anything. Maybe he did it, maybe not. If he did, he deserves all the consequences. If he did not, yea it's a really crappy thing to be tagged with. That's why I would never agree to a plea deal, ever. No way I could admit doing something like that. He did, attorney and family probably told him to plea, I get that. Either he did it, or the mother coached her what to say. If he really didn't do it, why aren't they bringing a suit against the mother? One of many questions I have about this whole mess. But the fact he proclaimed his innocence means absolutely nothing. As with the teachers you referenced. Maybe they did something, maybe they didn't. But of course they're going to proclaim their innocence. You know what? Chances are some of them did something, some of them didn't.
  24. No, if he did it he should be vilified forever.
