  1. Still over .300 career BA, hope he can hang on to that but not real likely. Also, I think he could have made a run at SB leader if the game didn't change so much, and teams stopped running for the most part. That list also reminded me how great it would be to Cirillo's bat in the line-up right about now.
  2. Agreed. Not every move has some larger, deeper meaning. Stearns has and will try to improve the roster from 1-40 and beyond. I think we also forget that it's important to have solid players in AAA surrounding the "true" prospects. Having good defensive players on the field helps a bunch when you're trying to develop pitchers.
  3. Yea Hader's role, and Suter's if he moves to the pen don't have anything to do with being LH. It's only April and look at the how many moves have been made in the pen already. Ramirez will absolutely get a shot this season.
  4. I'm not a big Sogard fan, don't get me wrong. But he did just miss two HRs that were like a foot or two foul. If those are fair, his OPS would take a huge jump this early in the season. Not saying that's a reason to keep him on the roster all year, just something to keep in mind when evaluating what he has done (or not done) so far this season.
  5. Plan was to play Braun at 1B vs LH. I don't see how you ever take Aguilar out of the line-up vs LH. Santana is off to a slow start, nothing new there. I think it makes sense to have Santana/Braun play roughly 50/50 when Braun is healthy. Plus, Braun could give Yelich/Cain the VERY occasional day off. Santana isn't going to get his bat going again riding the pines, but yea he can sit more often for the time being. That's how it looks today, this whole thing will be a work in progress all season and that's ok.
  6. In all fairness, I think Topper could rope a double into the gap against this guy.
  7. Once Sunday gets it going, and he will, I have no idea where Braun will play. You can't mess with Thames/Aguilar at 1B can you??
  8. You won't get an argument out of me that the talent isn't being developed or used properly. I'm just saying even at that the talent isn't that great. It's not like this current group of players should have been a top 2-3 team in the East. I mean, most of the guys you described above every team has, even the bad ones. We have to admit guys like Parker and Snell are just not as good as we want them to be. Heck, I counted at least 3 times last game Snell got the ball in perfect position to put up a 3 and he didn't. Having an interim coach in the playoffs doesn't help, I'm just saying it's a combination. They need better players, and players that fit around Giannis and they need to hit it right on the next coach.
  9. Nottingham has an OPS of .400, largely driven by a .000 BA. He is horrible.
  10. The Celtics did not "luck out." They've made a series of smart moves. As for the Sixers, true, the Bucks couldn't afford to tank for several years. But they could have for at least one. And one more stud to go with Giannis would be a huge difference right now. Finally, you say they "clearly have the talent." Where? I mean yea, they have enough talent to be what they are- a playoff team in the East. But let's not pretend they're loaded with talent.
  11. What a horrible way to open the new arena. Nothing they can this off-season to make a splash, other than trade bad contracts for other bad contracts. Essentially the game they've been playing the last 20 years. Philly and Boston were in the same position as the Bucks a few years ago, look how they have rebuilt vs the Bucks. Pathetic.
  12. I see that point somewhat, but we already can't compare one era to another- even with the same amount of games. Safe to say the numbers were a little different during the juiced ball/player era of Bonds, Sosa, Mac, etc. compared to today. Just one example.
  13. Torres-Costa would need to be protected for sure. Gatewood probably not. Very hard for even a tanking team to carry a marginal prospect as a position player. There's a ton of arms in the mix, and as stated earlier that will work itself out to some degree. Lara is interesting. If they exposed him and he turned out to be even a decent MLB player that would hurt after all the money and development time put into him.
  14. I'm a traditionalist as well, but that doesn't apply here. There used to be more scheduled Double-headers and less than 162 games.
  15. I would guess pitching 2 innings every 2 or 3 days is better for the arm than pitching 1 inning in back to back games, 3 out of 4 games, etc. Look at all the pitches thrown to warm-up, which don't get counted in the pitch count of course.
  16. I guess getting shut out by Guerra and Davies was the final straw.
  17. He's probably right, but there's no going back now. Players getting paid less is one thing, but the Owners and ESPN aren't going to take in less revenue. Ideally, if they went with a 154 game schedule and one DH each month, that would open up 14 more off days- 2 per month.
  18. I've been thinking the same thing. Stearns seems to want guys in the rotation who can go 4-5 innings without completely sinking the team, and a strong bullpen with several guys who can go multiple innings a few times a week. Top that off with guys with options who can be shuffled to AAA after a long outing (or when the #5 can be skipped) to bring in a fresh arm. I'm skeptical as to whether this can work over a 162-game season, but for the Brewers' sake, I sure hope it does. It would sure help the situation if we could get some 6-8 inning outings at least a couple of times a week. I really doubt that's the plan. Using 4.5 innings, that's 729 innings from the bullpen! Not even including extra innings, so it would be more like 750. I just think it's easing them in, being careful.
  19. Can't score any runs, defense is horrible, blown saves bonanza......yet we're 10-9. Not too shabby.
  20. Hader two inning saves are a thing of beauty. Asking Barnes for an encore inning? I fear results similar to Caddyshack 2.
  21. You know why, it's the law of the land. If it's a player you like, be patient, it's early. If it's a player you don't like then it's "I told you he sucks."
  22. you DL him so we can get someone else on the roster who can actually play. Having him day to day at all times wastes a roster spot. Of course it does. But what good does it do to DL him when after 10 days you're in the exact same spot?
  23. That's a device using facial recognition to identify every fan, what they eat, how many beers they've had etc. Facebook installed that a long time ago.
  24. Makes no sense to DL Braun. Do you realize the day he comes back from the 10 day, he'll just be day to day again? He will have something come up to keep him out for a few days, so DL him again? It is what it is. Unless they know he has an injury more long term, no need to DL him every time he has a nagging injury. He would literally be on the DL the whole season.
