  1. Drake had a good outing today, it's almost like people want him to fail. Hopefully he has a good season, if not they bring someone else up. Thats life in the bullpen.
  2. Optimistic CC will rarely give Cain or Yelich a day off. Also optimistic TJ will stay out of the penalty box.
  3. Why does Luke need to like Braun? He has his reasons, and couldn't be more clear. I didn't like Braun even before the whole PED thing, that just sealed it for me. Big deal. He has always come across as Roger Dorn to me. And I do think Luke made a great point. If Braun played for the Cubs, you would all still like him? I don't think so. Just because someone is on a team I root for doesn't mean I have to "like" them. Back in the day I knew a few of the 80s Brewers fairly well. I learned then not to bother with liking/ not liking someone because you will only be let down. That experience really jaded me, I'll admit, but I doubt much has changed. I stick to what they do on the field, because we have no idea who these players really are as people.
  4. I never really loved Braun before the whole PED thing. He has always come off a little fake to me. I know a lot of people feel the same way, hard to explain but just sort of rubs people the wrong way. Thing is, I don't care. Ever since Favre, I have given up the jock worship. I may still root for certain guys more because I like them. But the thing is we really don't know any of these players so I try hard to stick to what they do on the field. So while I never really liked Braun I will like him plenty if he rakes this year.
  5. Barnes. If he has figured it out and can consistently pitch like this, wow what a bullpen.
  6. You get the defense that Phillips brings as well, which is a plus.
  7. Suter was used in so many ways last year, he wasn't asked to go deep into games for most of the season. But you know what, here's what he did in July when he was starting consistently: 6.0 6.1 4.2 6.0 7.0 So not only CAN he do it, he has done it. And if 6 innings is what qualifies as a "#3" then Chase Anderson must be a 4/5 since he only averaged a tad higher than 5.5 innings pitched per start.
  8. Capers would have come up with something. Some sort of gimmick defense using 1 CB and 5 Safeties.
  9. He'll get a shot this season, just a matter of when.
  10. Never thought I would miss having Wang.
  11. Good points, Cool. I think another negative would be potentially killing a big first inning. 2 or 3 runs in already, base runners and two outs. Now Anderson is hitting instead of Villar/Arcia. So that, along with forcing the SP out an inning earlier would be the downside. What you outlines would be the upside. I guess throw that all together, and I'm fine either way. As with most moves, there's always going to be up/downside.
  12. Any solid analytics on pitcher hitting 8th vs 9th? My initial reaction has always been you increase the odds pitchers spot is up one inning earlier when you get to that 6th inning or so. Could be forced to make a decision one inning earlier and pull the starter. Just seems that scenario would happen often enough.
  13. I agree, but I don't agree with you on the answer. To me, the simplest answer is Cobb did not want to play for the Brewers, and quite possibly in the NL period. That's far more likely to me than the Brewers not bumping up their offer a few million if that's all it took, and they really wanted him.
  14. How do you know what the Brewers "cap" will be in 2020? First, there is no cap like there is in the NFL. Secondly, we don't know how much Mark A is willing to spend down the road. He may be willing to go higher than we think once all the pieces are in place to really make a run. And the "Monty, unless you are also torts" line is another example what I mentioned earlier.
  15. Thank you, that's what I thought. How do you know the Brewers didn't offer 64/4? You see, you have no idea what the Brewers offered, didn't offer, or why. You also have no idea what it would have taken for Cobb to sign with the Brewers. I have no problem that you're passionate about this, not at all. Honestly TJseven, I say this as a friend of the BF.net community. You're coming off as a "know it all" and that tends to turn people off in the real world, and yes here in our little community too. Maybe you don't care, and that's cool too.
  16. I feel it was a capitalize on his "1 shot at a FA money grab" more than anything else. I've said 64/4. 60/4 is more than 57... I really doubt Balt did anything for him other than pay him more. I'm curious to see the defered money payout and the trade protection because I think at this time that Balt bought him to trade him next offseason. Lose Jones, Machado, sell sell sell. Selling him on a 30/3 will fetch some assets. They eat the defered cap in the rebuild. Ok, next question. How do you have any earthly idea Cobb would have signed with the Brewers at 64/4 or 60/4? A few more questions. If it's only a few million more to get him, how do you know Baltimore wouldn't have met the Brewers 64/4 offer? Or another team? Do you know if Cobb ruled out NL teams due to having to bat and run the bases? (Or just has a strong preference to stay in AL for whatever his reasons.)
  17. TJSeven, just curious. What deal did the Brewers need to offer in order for him to sign?
  18. Truer words have never been spoken. We've all become internet GMs to one degree or another, when the truth is none of us come close to knowing how these deals get done or don't get done. What the plan is, how it changes, and what come next. Throwing around ideas and theories is fun, and can make for some good conversation. Just seems lately there's so many conclusive statements made in the line of "of course so and so should have been signed." Reminds of a line from a movie you may know. "You looked the kid in the eye and said you knew, and you didn't. You didn't."
  19. RHSP is so deep that list didn't even include the likes of Perrin, Supak, Herrera, Zack Brown, and Missaki among others. (Although I would move Taylor Williams off the list.)
  20. This perfectly sums up the Cobb thread. Sorry, threads. lets just watch three days of brewersbaseball.
  21. Looking over everyone's lists again, one thing strikes me/ When I look at the big picture, I think how we perceive the system today is the floor. 6 months from now, there could very well be a lot more to be excited about. You have all the pitchers coming back from injury (And in the case of Bickford suspension.) Kirby, Bickford, Houser, etc. could all out-perform their ranking. Ditto for under-performers with talent like Nottingham, Coulter, ERCEG, Ray, Grisham. Finally, a lot of high ceiling guys at the lower levels. My point is, I don't see many of these guys going down much in perceived talent, but there's a ton of upside potential overall. Hope that makes sense?
  22. Logo debate WHOAA SOLVVD
  23. No, it's not about sack numbers. I don't know how many times he didn't seal the edge when that was his job. How many times he was blocked initially on his pass rush and just stood there and gave up. I have no problem if Pettine has a way to get more out of him, I will trust his decisions until proven otherwise. I also have no problem if they use that money elsewhere. Honestly, I would be thrilled if they put him in the middle full time. If he was motivated to do it, him and Martinez would be pretty special in the middle of the field.
  24. They have that offense now. It's just that the players refuse to run it more than like 25% of the time. Xs and Os is the easy part, they need someone who can actually get them to do it.
