  1. I keep forgetting Lamb is even on the team.
  2. After an unprecedented manager firing, I am not sure what to expect from our owner. I would think the most likley scenario is trying to improve one or 2 positions and acquiring some starting pitching but who knows.
  3. Weeks Fielder Cameron Braun Hardy Hart Hall/Counsel Pitcher Kendall
  4. Not as simple as you think when both of those lines were in large part due to 1st half numbers that are way out of their career norms. I think this is a perfect example of why using stats from just one year is a bad way to make decisions.
  5. Sorry for my tearse reply earlier. I will try to expand. In the first half Weeks(26) 217/320/367/687 Durham(36) 293/385/414/799 The problem is that neither line makes sense compared to what either has done in their career. I have a hard time believing that a 26 year old is going to produce far below career numbers and a 36 year old is going to put up an OBP 33 points over his career average. 3 year(2005-2007) Weeks 250/357/411/768 Durham 268/338/439/777 and just to be fair to Durham since he had one really bad year in the last 3 Durham career 277/352/436/788 Weeks career 245/352/403/755
  6. Why bat Weeks so low? Even with his terrible 1st half he has improved his stats to the point where his OBP is one of the best on the team. The old guy plays way over expectations and the youngert guy plays under his. People think the old guy can keep it up and the young guy will continue to suck even though he hasn't.
  7. I don't mind the lineup other than Durham being in there instead of Weeks. Oh, and Counsell instead of Hall. I don't like Hall that much either.
  8. Your opinion I guess. I will stick to thinking that everybody who wants to go with Durham over Weeks is just thinking that different is better.
  9. Post All Star break Weeks .265/.378/.426/.804 Durham .264/.354/.444/.798 I will take the OBP over SLG in a leadoff hitter and both are bad defensively. Different kinds of bad.
  10. Except that Weeks is a better player than Durham. Has been since the All star break.
  11. I don't think it should either, but I think that it would be tough to hire a guy that would be respected by the players without that person having MLB experience. That is the flaw with managers and the reason we are stuck in the past.
  12. Sounds like what I want so I will tell y ou what TLB told me. Don't hold your breath.
  13. Yes I do think changing managers in the middle of the year is quitting. You don't have many options available to hire. All you have is what's on the bench or guys nobody else wanted. Of course with my opinion of MLB managers, anybody with a pencil that can write a lineup can do the in game stuff so it really doesn't matter who is the manager. It makes management look like they are trying to do something even if it will more than likely make no difference.
  14. I think the best case scenario short term is that we win the World Series. I also think that is the worst case scenario long term. I think it would result in more meddling form Mark A. I remember him saying early on that he would let his baseball people handle things until he learned more. I was hoping he would learn to keep his hands out of things and let his baseball people run things. One more thing, would people please lay off of Weeks hitting. He is the only starter on our team hitting well this month and one of our best players in the 2nd half.
  15. "In Ned's defense, it's not his fault that we didn't hit and we didn't pitch the last two weeks," shortstop J.J. Hardy said on an off-day interrupted by news that Yost had been dismissed from his role as Brewers manager. Looks like JJ said it. Link Doesn't sound like JJ or Counsell are to happy about the move.
  16. If you are goin gto make a change, then make a change and don't hire another MLB manager. They are all bad. I would rather hire somebody who is younger and will not do things "by the book." If they make a change I hope they will look into somebody with some grasp of sabermetrics, for lack of a better word. Bullpen by commitee, relife ace instead of a closer, not worry about strikeouts(Yost obviously did since Branyan didn't play much), etc.
  17. I am waiting to see the explination from management on this one, but if it runs along the lines of "we needed to shake things up" it will be strike 2 for this ownership. I am not upset Yost is gone, but to fire a manager at any point during a season is pretty much quittig in my eyes. I guess the Brewers just quit for this season. This is a good PR move, but that's all it is at this point.
  18. Wow, bad move. At least wait to fire the guy until after the season so you can make a change instead of putting in a guy who worked with Yost.
  19. I have to say that I think 95-97 wins with this team no matter the manager is an unreasonably high expectation. Yost has made mistakes, but most of the problems are the direct result of all but one or 2 players going into a huge hitting slump this month. I am not necessarily saying that we should go off some arbitrary number, but I doubt anybody would have though we would win 90+ games after, or even before, the Gallardo injury. I do count the CC trade as making up for the Gallardo injury. To think that there is a difference between Yost and even the best manager we can get is 5-7 games seems to overstate the impact of a manager in my opinion. Fire Yost or keep him. It will matter very little. The next guy is likley to do many of the same stupid things Yost does.
  20. I think Capuano will be ready to pitch by midseason next year. Not as a starter though. I am not sure they will be willing to offer him arbitration and $3M though.
  21. Just to cap off a miserable day, EA has ended merger negotiations with 2K games. What does this mean you are asking. Well it means that EA still doesn't have the rights to MLB baseball and we will be subjected to yet another spring featuring a crappy baseball game by 2K Sports instead of our beloved MVP.
  22. I think Durham should get some time at 3B because I think he is a better option offensively than either Hall or Counsell. Of course I am not sure he could hack it defensively. My vent is that I am not even mad right now. I get mad for about 20 minutes after games and that's about it. I have no control over the outcome of games, why get to upset.
  23. I'll be honest. I am not a big fan of Hall. I never liked his defense as I thought it was very uneven much like Weeks(he makes spectacular plays and messes up easy ones). Now he doesn't even have his offense to fall back on. I was willing to write last year off as a down year but it is looking more and more like 2005-2006 were the aberration years. I have no problem having Hall as a backup, but relying on him as a starter worries me. Maybe Lasik helps him. I don't see an internal solution being available by the start of next year. Escobar and Gamel are close, but I still think the best thing for the players and the franchise would be to leave both in AAA for 1/2 or more of next year. I doubt we can improve on more than one infield position. 3B makes the most sense right now. If we can get a long term solution we can move Gamel around in AAA to play either OF and/or 1B. Either that or we get a short term solution and see how Escobar and Gamel develop. Moving Gamel around makes Hart or Fielder trade bait for the next offseason. My choice would be Fielder since I think his defense makes all our other defenders, who are poor, that much worse.
  24. I think that article along with the regression article posted by Russ, Russ's Are teams Streaky Over the Course of a Season and this link posted by Baldkin should be required reading.
  25. Is Escobar expected to hit well enough that between his offense and defense he would be better than either Hall(and his platoon mate) or Weeks. I think if the answer is no then he stays in AAA or gets traded. I don't think Escobar would be a better option than anything we currently have on our MLB roster. We don't have to bring him up at all next year and I think the best option would be to leave hm in AAA and bring him up if one of our infielder fails next year. It is easy to bring a guy in AAA up to play another position. He will be happy just to be in the majors.
