  1. The only guy I have heard on the radio, TV, or newspaper who seems at least likley to give new stats and ideas, like batting the pitcher 8th, a try is Homer on 100.5 FM.
  2. I agree with TLB's original post. There does seem to be less moderation recently. Unless strikes have been handed out in private, but it seems like more things are going by without remark from moderators. The overall tone of the board is still more respectful than other boards, but there seems to be more name calling than previously. I am pretty sure TLB meant persons who were triple and quadruple posting.
  3. BA is better than runs because each player has more control over their own BA than they do over runs. Unless they are hitting home runs, they are being driven in by somebody else. Team dependant stat, much like RBIs. However, BA is not really a good stat to use when looking at players unless you are trying to determine how a player gets on base. OBP is more valuable/useful than BA when looking at players. Like others have said, runs are more a function of where you hit in the order as opposed to your value as a player. Saying Weeks is a good player because he scores runs would be like saying he is a bad player because he doesn't get RBIs.
  4. I don't think people missed the point. There just aren't high expectaions for Hall like there are for others on our team. Most realize he has a poor approach and is a bottom of the order hitter. I guess it's your prerogative whether or not to ignore medical fact. To me, having the ankle of your plant leg hurt as much as Hall's did last year sure makes sense as to why his power numbers were down. The notion that Hall is going to hit .220 is pretty sensationalistic & inaccurate. He only had 9 HR by the all-star break last year. I think the ankle bothered him for the 2nd half of last year. I also don't think he should be expected to hit more than 20-25 HR in a year ever again.
  5. I don't like wasting a guy who can pitch multiple innings in the closers role. Like it or not, once a guy is named as a closer he becomes a one inning pitcher. This is not a Ned Yost thing either. This is something 80-90% of MLB managers do. I think there are a lot of people who don't understand this. It seems that the popular opinion is that the best reliever needs to be the closer, but then many of those same people get upset with the closer being used wrong. Why then wouldn't you want a lesser reliever in the closers role if you hate how a closer is used?
  6. I sent this to somebody last night about my thoughts on our pen. I haven't looked at our pitching or hitting stats this year yet. You know, the Brewers really have built a pen to my liking. I am not sure where everybody falls in place yet, but it looks like our 2 best pitchers may be Mota and Torres. Multi inning guys who are not tied down to a certain inning. They can come in, stop a rally and stay in for a couple innings. Having 2(3 if Riske turns out to be good) of them is great because they can fill in the role that Villy did last year, but without the burnout halfway through the year. It looks like Gagne might be our 3rd best reliever or worse. I have no problem with him as the closer. I think I had something along the lines of ranking guys 1-9(in this case) and taking the best guy as your fireman/stopper. Making the best one inning guy who isn't your best reliever your closer, thus freeing up your best reliever to work at any time. Idealy having at least 2 really good multi inning guys ready to pitch at any time. At least 2 so they don't burn out.
  7. I agree that Hall doesn't get a "pass" so much as we have accepted ths fact that he is going to show flashes of brilliance mixed with long stretches where it looks like he would strike out at tee ball. I also agree he doesn't have a firm grasp of his own abilities which shows in his base running. After his 2005 season I thought he might be a 20-20 guy, but it turns out he is a terrible base stealer.
  8. I hope Ronny Cedeno is thinking about the WS in October from his home while watching the Brewers win it.
  9. I like the music playing over the post game interviews so that you can't hear either the interviewer or interviewee. Good stuff. Hand out raises all around.
  10. Bad throw by Weeks, but Fielder still has to dig that out. I refuse to give our crappy fielding 1B a pass on that one.
  11. At least with a grown child you get to skip the diaper changing years. That shouldn't be overlooked. Seriously though, I was never a person that wanted kids. In fact I would go so far to say that if I had never had kids I wouldn't have been bothered at all. I now have 2 and like them quite a bit. It is definitely a lifestyle change having to put their needs before my own wants, but things worked out fine.
  12. Good advice for anybody with kids. Never undermine your partner. Whether you agree or not.
  13. It is impossible to make a list of things any manager does right since when they make a right decision they should have done it in the first place. It is only possible to point out questionable or wrong decisions. Pitching Gagne for a 4th day in a row was certainly questionable. However, we still don't know what we have in Gagne. He hasn't exactly been unhittable so far so for all we know Sunday was what we should expect from time to time even with rest.
  14. How much money are we going to miss out on because the Yankees and Mets get to deduct their stadium costs from their luxury(payroll) tax? I think we are going to have to get to the post season just to offset that. I wouldn't be surprised if there is actually less money next year than this year.
  15. I don't really want to post this here as I am sure it belongs in a different thread, but I would venture to guess that Fingers was typically used more than an inning at a time unlike today's closers. He wasn't even really a closer. I think his defined role under the current flawed relief managing "book" would be more of a middle reliever. More akin to Torres and Riske.
  16. Sell Brewerfan.net patches and people could sew it on the shirt themselves. Of course I have no idea how much cost or anything else that would go into that.
  17. I think it was a bad move on Yost's part and Gagne as well. Gagne should be more honest about the condition of his arm instead of trying to be a tough guy. That being said, Yost should have known better. Yost trusts his players to be honest with him, right or not. I was just pointing out that Gagne has had time to strengthen his arm a little more than Wood. I would think that Gagne's tired arm last year would be the same thing that could happen to Wood this year. I wouldn't consider Gagne's arm as strong as Cordero, but I wouldn't put him in the same category as a guy who has had arm problems in each of the last 3years.
  18. You have to realize that she is going to see every guy she dates as a possible father. That's how it is with most single mothers. That's how it was with my wife when we were dating whether I realized it at the time or not.
  19. True, but you can't compare him to Wood at all. Gagne has had at least one full year without injuries to his arm at this point and is almost a year and a half removed from back surgery. I don't even know the last time Wood has had a full year without having an arm injury.
  20. The difference between Gagne and Wood is that Wood isn't even a full year removed from an arm injury.
  21. If you are not willing to commit to the kid you have no business dating the mother.
  22. GPS? That's just funny. Is that for when total strangers show up at your house they can look up where they are?
