  1. Nothing I have seen to this point in the season changes my mind about long term contracts with either player. Contracts that are longer than 4 years are irresponsible for a club like Milwaukee. Signing either to a contract that doesn't buy out at least 1 year of free agency is also a complete waste. It is also way to early to make any judgement about either player with regards to their performance. Prince may have gained weight or maybe he is wearing a sloppy looking loose uniform. Pitchers have adjusted to Braun. He needs to show some patience and adjust back. Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. Hard to make any guess at future performance with under 600 PA. Keep in mind he had a .361 BABIP and a LH OPS split over1.000 last year so we shouldn't expect him to be as good this year as last year.
  2. Jenkins was replaced by Gross for much of the last month of the season last year because Jenkins was hitting so poorly.
  3. I have TiVo and I love it. Mine is not HD however so I will be without HD recording for at least one more year. $700 seems like alot, but if you are getting tv through cable and it works with your cable I would highly reccommend it.
  4. When talking about comparing the Cubs talent to the Brewers talent last year, keep in mind the difference between the Brewers and the Cubs was a walk-off homer by A-Ram. I would say that two teams with pretty much equal talent could easily be up to 3 wins apart in the standings at the end of the year. Nothing scientific about that, just my thoughts.
  5. I have said it before, but I think it bears repeating. I think he signs for more years somewhere else with a similar average per year that we offer. For a shorter contract we can match the money, but we can't match the years. Well, we can match the years, but we can't afford to eat a bad contract as easily as some other clubs.
  6. Oh, ok. I wasn't trying to say that because he gave up a few early hits that he was off. I was saying that you shouldn't give up outs early in the game. The book also states that batters gain the advantage as the game goes on. Except for the 9th spot in the opder. It got worse. I went back and read the chapter on starting pitchers. I don't want to be thought of as somebody who always asks for an explination without making the effort to read posted links or books that I actually own. I am sure I am forgetting something as I was kind of tired when I read it.
  7. So if a pitcher is having an off day you are more likley to get him early in the game? I have the book, but will admit I have not read more than a few chapters here and there.(I focused mostly on batting order stuff and sac bunting) Shame on me for not reading the whole thing. I shouldn't need somebody to point out how much of a slacker I have been, but I do. Thank you Russ. Now that I know I promise to go back and read it all the way through. Part of my reasoning behind not bunting against Santana despite how good he is has to do with the splits many of our players have against LH pitching. Hall, Hardy, and Braun(didn't look up Weeks, Hart, or Kendall) crush lefties. With that in mind I would be more inclined to bunt early vs a righty over a lefty with everything else being equal.
  8. I am not disagreeing with any of your points nate. I would just like to say that even a 3 year sample is pretty small when you break it down. Thank you for the 3 year splits though. Very interesting.
  9. You are talking about games like last year when Cordero gave up a HR to A-Ram instead of getting a save, I assume.
  10. Ann Carrol stumbled over her words and mispronounced player's names. She was all around bad. I wanted to say that looks are important just to be different, but I can't rationalize somebody who is bad at doing interviews. If Trenni was stumbling over words or doing bad interviews her attractiveness would plummet. Being attractive is so much more than just how somebody looks.
  11. I thought that Jackson was the main player in that deal and Bush was the throw in. I seem to remember that people thought Jackson was a pretty good prospect at the time.
  12. I would say that against a pitcher like Santana you should wait and see a couple innings if he is on as all pitchers have off days. I really don't get to upset with sac bunting. I have to say I really enjoy watching a player like Hart bunt for a hit then move to 3B without the hitter helping.
  13. "With a runner on first base and no outs, any hitter with an on-base percentage (OBP) of at least .206 and/or a slugging percentage (SLG) of at least .182 -- numbers that would encompass practically every hitter in the majors, including many pitchers -- should swing away. The only exception is when a team is playing specifically for one run, in which case the thresholds are a .282 OBP and/or .322 SLG." Taken from the sac bunting thread which was a quote taken from this article(post from TLB, link from Casey1992) http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/27/AR2005082701172.html
  14. I will never discuss an opinion with anybody unless they ask, and usually if we disagree I will let the conversation drop. I will however explain things to people(just a little and as unobtrusively as possible) if I overhear them talking about something that isn't an opinion. I usually give them a little time to figure things out themselves first. A year or two ago I heard somebody ask their friend what the numbers they put up on the scoreboard meant. 6-4-3, I waited a bit and told them they were the positions on the field SS-2B-1B. I also heard some people talking about what a backwards "K" meant. Strikeout looking and I showed them the front page of the score book I had since they looked skeptical.
  15. I don't think he has taken at bats from Gross or Gwynn yet. He has taken some from Dillon maybe. Until CF is no longer a platoon, he is playing when he should and no more.
  16. Yeah playing match ups would drive up the number of relievers used. I personally prefer to just have good guys who can pitch to both, or a guy like Wise who was a quasi LOOGY. He had good splits against lefties.
  17. "Hopefully the Jimmy Fund will auction it off and we'll take the act that was a very, very bad act and turn it into something beautiful," Very, very bad? wow, that's really an exageration. They are really making a big deal about something pretty trivial.
  18. Yeah, I watched that. It was his laugh. Very grating. I posted about that in the "After on year what do you think of the broadcasts thread." http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=10562
  19. I have Metroid and really want to play it, but I am holding off in case my 360 RROD's again.
  20. Why do you make that assumption? Who did we have last year in the pen who could reasonably be pitching more than an inning at a time in tough situations?
  21. He killed us when he played for us, and he has had several game winning hits against us. I would probably have let it go by now if he didn't keep showing up at the park and beating us.
  22. I will let him be when he stops showing up at our park and winning games for our opponents.
  23. Yes, I think you should start going to spring training and getting Cubs signatures.
  24. "It's a placebo," Yost said. I have to say I agree. I don't think it makes any difference who is 3rd or 4th. Switch them if it makes them happy. They should be batting 2 and 4 anyway, not 3 and 4.
