  1. Well, it took until the 5th day of the season for my worst nightmare to come true... At least opening day was cool
  2. Unreal.... I had to double check and make sure this wasn't an April fools joke He was pretty much the same player as Alcides Escobar last year
  3. That is cool--- my favorite autograph is a Michael Jordan I got on a tiny scrap of folded up paper...the reason it's awesome is because of how I got it: on March 6th 1990, We went to the Bradley Center to watch the Bucks play the Bulls, which had special significance for me because it was the first and only time I got to watch my cousin, Will Perdue, play in the NBA. it was also my brother's 10th bday, if you are wondering why i remember the date. Well anyway, after the game, Will invited us to come into the press area in front of the locker rooms and i got my roster from the program signed by all the bucks (jay humphries and Ricky Pierce ftw), but Will could tell we were disappointed that the Bulls players hadn't come out. So while we were talking to the random early 90's Bucks players, Will disappeared. When he came back, he had two tiny scraps of paper signed by Jordan---MJ wouldn't come out bc he would be mobbed, but Will wanted to make sure we got his autograph. It isn't worth anything as far as autographs go, but to me, it's the coolest piece of sports memorabilia I've got...worked out for Will too, as he won a fistful of rings between the Bulls and the Spurs without every really being a key player on either team...even got traded for Dennis Rodman at one point
  4. you also need to view owning a baseball teams as a premium perk that is like owning a limited edition sports car or the biggest house in the hamptons... there are only 30 teams, so regardless of profit, there is tremendous scarcity. Therefore, a huge determination of the value is just in the fact that it is a major league baseball team...I mean, you can be the richest guy on earth, but you can' just buy a team...which pushes their value up a ton besides, if the team just wanted to rake in profit for a year or two, they could pull an astros or a marlins and make a ton of cash for a little bit, though it would hurt the overall value of the team
  5. i have waaaaaay too many baseball cards from the 80's and 90's which are worth nothing... but, i like torts, also have a book of molitor cards that covers about 98% of his cards through his retirement (like 300-400 cards) as well as an autographed card from basically everyone who has been on the team since about 1998 or so...even the random relievers.. what i like the most though, are personal autographs...so for a few years, when i didn't have three kids, i used to go to about 40 minor league games a year and get my Baseball America Prospect handbook signed by every player I saw that was in it...so I've got a lot of the Brewers current roster in those, as well as on balls and things like that...my favorite was the 2006 Brevard All stars---which includes Braun and Gallardo---I was at both of their last game with the Manatees...that was a cool one
  6. My guess is that he wants to go somewhere a little thinner at SS...he's 4th or fifth in line with the Brewers.. of course, if he couldn't stick with the Marlins, then he's probably not going to be playing much anywhere
  7. I agree with Dhonks... personally, I'm glad the Brewers aren't just automatically to Corey Walking Next year's fre agent class is terrible, so barring a trade, if corey walks, it has to be someone in house...I'm not a full believer in Hunter Morris yet...if he hits at AAA like he did at AA, then great. But he has profiled a whole lot like Brendan Katin---I'm excited to see what he can do when he's not playing in his home town as well.
  8. Mlbtr.com mentioned that Doug and Mark have planned on trying to resign Hart and that they still feel they have the money to make another substantial move if necessary this team isnt planning on rebuilding until it it forced on them
  9. donnie murphy has requested, and been granted, his release
  10. maybe that's why they did this....
  11. so, i assume this means Segura will be riding pine
  12. forgive me kyle, for i have sinned YUNI. PERIOD. Unless they only signed him to make him stand at the turnstile and apologize for 2011.
  13. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?
  14. first off, i wish it was someone other than lohse but seriously, well played doug---i knew this was going to happen since day one, but they waited until the price wasn't insane...the ball was in doug's court from day one, and he played the price down to not rip off level now, i hate losing the pic, but the money is very, very minimal... this beats the heck out of jonathon broxton for three years and 21 million or scott baker for anything higher than 0
  15. mlbtraderumors.com opines that two of these guys will be traded and lists the Brewers as one of the 4 teams known to be interested... so, which one would you take, and who do we trade to get him? Dodgers are dying for infield depth right now, so I'm kind of hoping for Taylor Greene plus a ball pitcher for Ted Lilly
  16. I'm going to come out and say that right now might be max value for his career, so I think they should trade him.... Maybe an exaggeration, but he's got no place on the brewers, and he's starting to get national attention...send this guy to the Astros for bud Norris!
  17. erick almonte, brad nelson, a bunch of other guys i can't remember....lalli makes the team as the 25th man...gets 15 ab's, and is replaced by hart... the team probably like their odds of being able to send Taylor Green or Jeff Bianchi down at the end of spring training more than their odds at the beginning of May
  18. Could it be that they are keeping their best AAA LF in the wings because Braun might be getting suspended?
  19. With his Defense, even if he regresses, he's not a bad deal at that money----offense has gotten so bad in the majors that carlos, even at current levels, Carlos is in the top half of center fielders in the league with the bat. He's also got age on his side.... in other words, if he improves, this is a steal. if he doesn't, this is fair. if he regresses, then its an overpay, but not by much... it's crazy that we know who the starting outfield will be until 2016 (or at least that is, Braun, Aoki, and Gomez are all under contract until then...)
  20. did not see this coming at all... hart's toast after this year
  21. I'm liking that second one, but I think narveson isn't ready---i think it'll be one of the Dodgers extra pitchers
  22. also, he hit 70 hr's that year
  23. pretty bad doesn't sum it up...he's been awful since the end of 2010 i would much rather see if we have someone who could replace Corey in house and possibly for next year than bring in a nothing player like Daric Barton
  24. thought i'd sticky this because several were interested in reviving the power 50 discussion, and maybe reviving a formal power 50---let's use this thread to see what we want to do here
