  1. jason bartlett could be had for nothing
  2. so, maybe we will lose a corner outfielder for 50 or so games...ugh---well, i assume the brewers would play aoki and maybe give a gindl or schafer an extended look
  3. Bianchi would likely clear waivers if he made it to the brewers the first time...my guess is that he could be easily outrighted and retained with no problems
  4. awesome...we need a couple more signings like this...stock up on the rubble and build a mountain
  5. Is this guy going to be better than Fukudome? A serious question, because if it costs the team 2.5 then another 2.5 a year, it seems to me that Kosuke would be cheaper...and a much more proven option
  6. i think i read that pat the bat had retired
  7. we stole greinke...jeffress sucked this year and odorizzi was toast at AA
  8. oh god no edit: rationale: incoherent hatred
  9. So, this year's Kotsay is Japanese...cool...if he'll sign a 2 year deal for less than 2 million a year, then i'll bite...but it's gonna kill me if he gets more than we would've paid hairston...or punto
  10. schafer and gomez in left until braun comes back...we'll be a lot better defensively...and sign aram
  11. i think green is the backup everything...but i'm really hoping that there's budget left after aram for punto
  12. why not add Beltran to this list and play him in RF or at 1st? i think ramirez is definitely the way to go...
  13. i'm happy, but i want a pure defense guy on the bench as a utility guy
  14. non tender mcgehee as well...
  15. again, i wouldn't fret this too much...he's an awesome reliever...so the worst case scenario is that we have an awesome reliever...i'm cool with that
  16. i'm not sure of that...doug and mark must have known this could happen...likewise, mark always says he'll extend the budget for the right player
  17. i don't think they could wisely spend that amount of money at ss...rollins is the only guaranteed above average guy left on the board at short, and he will cost more and be a way bigger risk in terms of production and injury... i would much rather have aram and a defensive first ss than blow a bunch of money on rollins or furcal... as for the bullpen, i think it's krod and umm...fiers and braddock? rogers? surely we won't sign anyone now
  18. that's not every dollar---surely the brewers had a budget for late inning closers, and i'm guessing krod just ate all of it...so no hawkins and no saito...but i'm sure the brewers had budgeted at least 7-8 million for reliever...so there over budget on relievers, but not by as much as it would seem
  19. he had the second highest ops by a 3b in the majors last year and led the nl...actually led the nl in every major category at 3b except runs...in fact, he was 16th in the league in ops, so even as a 1b, he was way above average...would have been fifth in the league last year at 1b, and surely would be a good fielder there so, i don't think you can classify his year as anything but awesome...offense is down across the board
  20. i don't want them to spend that much on him either, but i don't think the extra 5 or so million a year will make much difference to the rest of the roster...i hope it's not for that much, but i wouldn't be surprised
  21. well, since brewers.com says aram is only looking for 3 years, it wouldn't be the end of the world if he's a bust after two year... i think aram at 3 years and anything under 45 million improves the team...and shouldn't get too much in the way of other improvements...
  22. well, they've spent an unholy amount to not improve your team at all.. i think Doug melvin was right when he said the "winner" of the winter meetings is almost always a loser on the field... i just don't see reyes, buehrle, and bell making any team all that much better
  23. 22 year old corey hart still looked like a teenager---he's a giant and he had not grown into his frame yet--- 22 year old Caleb gindl is as big as he is really going to be--- i mean, statistics are cool, but corey's got 8 inches on Caleb---that's where the extra power has come from...i know it's easy to dismiss that, but it cannot be forgotten in these comparisons watching corey swing in huntsville when he was 21, it was clear that he was nowhere near maxed out---he is now---and we see what that meant...but don't just look at his stats and gindl's and think someone sooo much smaller than corey will hit for as much power as him in the majors
