  1. I honestly don't care how they pose or walk to first...Braun is 8 for 8 and that was a game winning 9th inning homer... oh man, winning is fun
  2. Having watched both guys move up the chain, I am more impressed with the way JJ progressed than Alcides has... however, the main reason i think JJ is better than Alcides will be with the stick is that JJ has vastly exceeded expectations in the majors...no one ever thought he'd hit 20+ homers a year and no one ever thought he was going to be a .290 hitter...so, he's actually advanced a good deal from that season in AA Now I'm not saying that Alcides can't continue to improve, it just seems unlikely that he will advance in the same way as hardy and for the recrd, Hardy's d was considered top notch all the way to the majors as well...that was part of the rationale for only giving him 335 ab's in A ball
  3. http://astros.mlb.com/images/2004/09/26/ZSHo5MPd.jpg Magruder is the hero.... http://www2.jsonline.com/sports/brew/image/2000/may/lyle516.jpg When it comes to Moutons, I'll take Lyle...bump that fist Hank..
  4. i love the obp from hardy this year...but i want to wait until the end of the season before we judge his numbers...he's had hot streaks like this before, but he always levels out somewhat... that said, Hardy is better right now than escobar ever will be, so i'm certainly not in favor of moving JJ anywhere except maybe to 2nd for alcides
  5. anyone here checked out Los Campesinos!? Truly awesome stuff there..
  6. Im in georgia...got a job on the first swing at a very nice magnet school... everyone else who posts here probably sees the southeast as a total dump, but with your degree, you'd be able to pick the school you want in the south...i moved her from NC, and i was hired with nothing more than 1 year of subbing at the school i wanted (note: i have a masters though, which is something i would definitely look into if you are still unemployed at xmas...if you are just working part time, why not get s'more edumacation?)
  7. This is a good trade...durham is a useful big league player who hits lefty and ford and hammond are no big loss... will durham qualify as a B free agent? offering him arby might not be a bad idea if he finishes strong
  8. i thought about nieves as i was writing...and he'll certainly get a mention in the next p50 writeup...and likely next months farm hops
  9. All Star Edition Here's the new Farm hops with a roundtable featuring me, Jim, Toby, and patrick
  10. All Star Edition Here's the new Farm hops with a roundtable featuring me, Jim, Toby, and patrick
  11. I'm really excited about this...i think it's incredibly cool
  12. You mis read me...Gindl's bat is awesome...i'm just blown away by his arm strength..he's a very good prospect
  13. not mistaken mass...Gindl's arm is better than his bat... as for Merklinger, he told me he was pitching hurt for most of the year a few days ago, but said the brewers brass want him to rehab on field...which should upset most of you guys...
  14. BTW, Civilization Revolutions is awesome for the Civ minded console owner..it will eat your life
  15. it's funny, i remember thinking in the early 2000's that the brewers had really bad luck with players leaving...not the case anymore...nice to see the team get the full value of a player for once..
  16. funny that you mention Haydel's average...he actually peaked at .291 a couple weeks ago..
  17. the cool thing about having family in Savannah is going to baseball things... the downside is that i don't get to stay for anything close to the whole game... that said: 1. Evan Anundsen has a ton of movement on his pitches, but he tops out generously at 88. I say generously because the highest the stadium gun had him was 88...i sat with a scout for a moment with a Stalker gun and the fastest he had him was at 86. So, take that into account with Anundsen. That said, they hit it straight down every single time and his off speed stuff comes in in the 60's, so he works the off speed stuff in very effectively. 2. Eric Farris is a clone of Callix Crabbe---he's better than his stats have suggested all year, but he's not going to develop into much more than a utility guy at best. 3. Eric Fryer reminds me of Andrew LeFave---He's a professional hitter. He went opposite field twice in the last two games with runners on...He didn't seem to have a ery good arm in LF however, which was surprising since he's a catcher. 4. Caleb Gindl missed a long double in the 1st only because the Sand Gnat CFer is really fast...
  18. forgot to mention earlier but there were multiple scouts for the texas ranger sthere last night i have no idea why...
  19. I made it to the game last night and had a very good time... A couple of notes... 1. Evan Frederickson topped out at 92...i double checked this with a scout using a stalker gun...i thought he was supposed to throw harder than that...most of the night he was working 88-90. On the other hand, his offspeed stuff comes in at 72-75, so he has a large differential. As for the wildness, it comes in spurts...he'll work the corner great for a minute, walk two guys, then strike out two looking. The one thing the box score probably didn't show was that he threw it over the catchers head to the back stop four times and bounced one to the plate that hit Ule's chest and went all the way to the Power dugout. He was Charlie Sheen wild at times. 2. Caleb Gindl runs fast and plays excellent defense with a nice arm. I'm a lot more confident about his ability to succeed as he rises up now. He's built a bit like Angel Salome in that he's got long legs and a short torso but looks very muscular. Made one diving catch coming forward in the 2nd, one over the shoulder ctch going back in the 4th, and threw a guy out at second in the 2nd. 3. Eric Fryer told me the Brewers never mentioned an outfield conversion and he doesn't really know what position he's going to play from day to day. He's still a catcher whenever he needs to be. Im going to try to get to the game tonight so i can watch Evan Anundsen...
  20. I will definitely be at the Power game either tonight or tomorrow or both...im going to drive fast and try and see frederickson pitch tonight...if i have internet access, i'll post some observations
  21. I know brantley's not on the list...but i'm chuckling thinking about a board room full of Indians guys arguing over which one is the better prospect akin to our argument last week in the power 50 thread
  22. its possible we will get more than just sabathia for those guys...
  23. Glad to have him...my only concern is that the brewers havee been playing so well already that he might not immediately improve the team...sure, he replaces dave bush in the rotation, but bush has been stellar for a month now... mass is right...this is about the playoffs... laporta will be a very good mlb player, but sabathia is a ridiculous haul for a guy the brewers "over-drafted" last season...
  24. we couldn't trade laporta in the offseason and none of the other guys had anywhere near the value they have now..
  25. you weren't...many were horrified when it was rumored over the offseason hat sheets would be traded for francouer
