  1. It happened in 2003 when I was in school at MU and we made it to the Final 4. Well...that's a little different in that WI avenue cuts right through the Marquette campus. It went down to the lake, almost 2 miles, with a parade of students and fans dividing the city up during rush hour and people getting out of their cars to join in. What am I missing, where where the old parties on WI Ave that you guys were talking about?

  3. I'm always amazed when someone reads a long, well thought out post that casually mentions WAR and just laser beams in on it.
  4. That is true, he hasn't had the team quit on him and I suppose he deserves some credit for that. In my mind though, a large part of that is new, young players coming up to prove themselves more than RR cheerleading. Also, any positive effect he has had on the players motivation doesn't make up for his complete lack of logic and reason in many of his decisions.
  5. Well, seeing as how I'm one of them, I doubt there are more than I realize. Lets just let our personal stories and observations get in the way of all these statistics and facts.
  6. So if you add the top 3 markets in WI togeather they nearly equal the Twins's home city (lets forget the fact that a good chunk of Madison are Cubs fans). The problem with your argument is that you cherry picked the top 3. After that, WI cities fall off to below 100k. The Twins still have Sioux Falls, Fargo, Duluth, and Rochester all over 100k. WI has Racine/Kenosha close (lots of Cubs fans there too) but however you split it up Minn has a much larger market.
  7. Well, you didn't hear that on this site, thats for sure.
  8. Huh? Larger cities being divided up moves them higher on the list, not lower. And its better than 16th because they have no competing team to the west of them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but their TV deal has them broadcast in the Dakotas. I'd have to guess, all things considered, they are in the top 10.
  9. Don't we have a thread like this every year. Its not a big deal.
  10. Just a heads up, bleachers are going for $10 on the street right now if you are planning to try to sell them around the stadium. I'd imagine they get down to $5 right before game time.
  11. My kitchen sink overflowed yesterday (yes, I left it running with the drain plugged while I went into the other room and forgot about it). I heard water running, so I ran back to the kitchen to shut it off. Long story short, I found myself laying on the floor in front of my sink with my feet through the baseboard and bruised/bloody ankles. I'm wearing sandals today at work and luckily a meeting was cancelled because my ankles are both too swollen to put shoes on.
  12. don't act like I said what? that I didn't think they would compete next year? I've said it 100x over. There's never been a change on opinion. I've never changed my stance. Search for whatever you want. I don't think they will compete and I've given my reasons at nausea on why. I think it's a "see what we got" year and sets us up to compete in 2014 and beyond. That's been my stance on the issue the entire time. The only difference in me saying "WE WON'T COMPETE NEXT YEAR" and "I DON'T THINK WE'll COMPETE NEXT YEAR" is context. If you want to push context, go ahead. Yes, it was the context, and it does have meaning. Not to you, but to nearly everyone else who reacted the way they did to your post. Similarly, I was questioning you saying with absolute certainty that they would not compete when you just now said you were basing that on an unknown. Again, I didn't realize you changed your opinion. You went one very specific way and, as you said, repeated it 100x over, then must have changed it later.
  13. I'm not going to dig it up, but you did change your opinion. Its searchable on the site, so no sense in denying it. People were simply reacting to what you had said before and quoting two recent posts doesn't change what you said in the past. If you want to change your opinion, awesome. But don't act like you said this all along.
  14. I bolded it because you did say that. I didn't realize you had changed your opinion. Sorry to bother you so much, just trying to understand his argument. It seems to have changed from what I remembered, hence my question.
  15. I would actually say the bullpen is an unknown every year. Why not just assume it will be league average, that's your best bet any given year. That being said, to me it sounds like you are saying equal offense, equal bullpen (being unknown every year), and unknowns at pitching means we CANNOT contend next year. Surely you can see the issue with arguing that something absolutely can't happen based on an unknown variable, no?
  16. As an informed Brewer fan, did you think the Brewers would contend this year? Just curious. yes, I did. I actually thought this years team would be better than last years team, as dumb as that comes off now. I didn't see the bullpen being so ridiculously bad nor the injuries of course. Not making excuses, just saying... So you projected this years team to win more than 96 games. And you project next years team to be below .500 (what I would call not competing) when they project to have a better or equal offense and better or equal bullpen. You are in effect saying the loss of Greinke, Marcum, Narv, and Wolf vs the additions of Fiers, Rogers, Estrada/Peralta, and perhaps a FA will cause at least a negative 14 win swing?

  18. We paid him $30 mil for 2.7 WAR. The contract wasn't a killer, but I think its a big stretch to say he earned the money we gave him.
  19. Ahh, its really hard to complain about this, but part of me is worried they wont have him to eat innings while babying the young arms.
  20. is that really what you hope for? a 4ish ERA? He's capable of maintaining a mid 3's ERA with a K per inning k9. Ok, I'm hoping for a 2.3 ERA, but I'd be very satisfied with a 4ish.
  21. No, I don't think that's worth noting in the least bit. Since when does a players athletic ability decline at age 27? You do realize that's generally considered the age a player peaks, correct? Hmm...If a player's athletic ability peaks at 27, wouldn't that mean is defense would likely decline from there? I think we are just splitting hairs here saying he is 26. The point is that if you signed him for a long term contract based on his defense it is likely to get worse as the deal goes on. Obvious, but probably worth noting due to the position he plays and how important his defense is to his overall game.
  22. For the most part, I believe clutch can be explained with small sample sizes. But then I see a guy like Braun or Pujols hit .500 in a playoff series and I start to wonder if its just that they are locked in and if they were mentally capable of giving that much mental and physical attention to every AB during the regular season they could actually hit .500. I actually believe that to be the case, though that is a different definition of clutch than someone like Counsell and even then, I'm talking about a situation where they are only successful half the time. Braun could come up in the 9th with the game on the line and have a 50/50 shot of getting a base hit to win the game. I'm sure if it works out where he doesn't get that hit, a lot of people would label him as unclutch.
  23. I'm hoping the prospects that take the place of Hart and/or Ramirez pan out when our young pitching can pitch strong through a playoff run (i.e. not 2013). If we keep the known commodities of Hart and Ramirez then in 2014 and/or 2015 we have nothing.
  24. 1. There were 13 1B that had a WAR above 2.5 last year and this year there are 23 corner OF that have a higher wOBA than Hart. ARam is owed 30 mil over the next two years. Its fairly "easy" to find players who will sign for their value. 2. We all know that. It does save money at certain positions though, allowing you to fill other holes through FA. 3. Yes, I would say it happens once in a generation. We got lucky and had it happen twice. A mini reload may be the best way to maximize that window. 4. With the way young pitching is, I don't know that I could ever say we have enough.
  25. Yellow line. It takes you to Howard where you have to transfer to the red.
