  1. So we should give him the benefit of the doubt? When last year he repeatedly met our worst expectations of being clueless. i could see that making sense last year when we didn't know where actions related to words, but we have a full season plus of our worst fears often coming true to just etch-a-sketch away what he says. Not to mention RR has proven to be super predictable.
  2. Will someone with Verizon LTE let me know how the service is in MP? 3G was always solid.
  3. To be fair, he also had success at AAA last year in a small sample. His stuff will translate to MLB batters just fine, so I wouldn't worry too much about his ERA in AA.
  4. If he has gone through the trouble to look up and memorize some obscure stat you think thats all just a smoke screen? I think that's giving him way too much credit, but okay.
  5. We've had around $45 mil committed to our top 4 players for the last few years and should be getting a yearly influx of $20 mil from the new tv deal. Its not impossible, but we will need to introduce new cost controlled players over the next 3 years.
  6. I can't disagree with any of that, even though I personally do feel as though RR made or makes more bad calls than other managers. My main point was the complete lack of logic in his explanations. Yes, other managers make stupid calls, but it seems to me (and yea, there isn't a way to measure this either) that they either learn from them or have a way of justifying them. That justification may be as simple as "my pitcher wanted to stay in," "this guy has been battling for me all season, there isn't anyone else I would want up to bad in that instance," or whatever else. It shouldn't be "well this guy is 3-4 against this guy" when that 3-4 came in 1998.
  7. Coat it however you guys want, RR made some really puzzling calls and when asked to explain them showed a complete lack of logical decision making ability. I don't mind someone making a decision that doesn't work out. I mind them making that decision for stupid reasons.
  8. What if Greinke is a different pitcher now than before 2008? I know you aren't supposed to just throw out data, but as is typical with Zack, he seems to be the exception to almost every rule.
  9. Weeks got hurt, but they had excellent replacements available in Hairston and Green (never mind RR chose to use Lopez instead). They essentially got 6 WAR from their CF platoon. Not sure how you can dismiss that as its pretty much an All Star starter level of play if its one player. I agree with your thoughts on the bullpen, though I think that has more to do with how poorly it was managed before K-Rod. Yes, DM managed to idiot-proof the pen, but for a small market team thats asking the GM an awful lot to do that year in and year out. The starting pitching wasn't just amazing on paper, it was amazing on the field too. Estrada kept it together in Greinke's absence. Yo struggled after going what I thought was too deep in his second start of the season. Other than that, Marcum struggled at the end when it didn't hurt the team too much. I'm not sure why he was expected to pitch effectively up to 200 innings. Part of that is on DM as well as RR. Granted its nearly impossible to say how many games RR cost us or to attribute how well players performed because of or in spite of him. Its also easy to look back and say things like the CF platoon "wasn't that good." Nearly all we can look at are his decisions and the process by which he made them. In that respect, he was a pretty giant failure in my opinion.
  10. The former is decidedly NOT exclusive from the latter, however. If you are going to instill a sense of confidence in your team and players, you actually have to follow though with what you say, sometimes by sticking with guys longer than they deserve (Loe and McGehee). It's not like the Crew clearly had other better options at the time. Once they did (K-Rod and Hairston), Roenicke played they guys he should have. As far as the rest of his in-game decision making, I'll take the fact that the Brewers significantly outplayed their pythagorean record as proof that Roenicke knows what he his doing more often than not. Perhaps he just got lucky, but we won't really know until a few more seasons go by. Kotsay in CF for the playoffs, however, is totally ridiculous and indefensible. I can't figure that one out. As others have said, I think Green would have been a much better option than McGehee. I also think Ron lacked the ability to think ahead. Getting Green some MLB ABs in June would have shown us if he was a viable option later in the year. Same with getting Lucroy some rest occasionally to keep him fresh, or overusing some bullpen arms.
  11. 96 wins proves that wrong. Wow, this is still being typed on this board?!
  12. Pretty definitive statement there. Lets see how Texas does this year with one of the best farm systems in baseball and probably the best team on paper headed into the season.
  13. ARod had a 16 OPS+ at age 18, his first year, then a 72 OPS+ his second season. He does not qualify to make the list. Right, in 208 PAs spread out over 2 years. Then, in his first full year, he OPS+'d 160. He is a perfect example of how your list cut off a lot of good players who had success early on and at a young age because they "do not qualify." Guys like Lawrie don't come around often. Sure he could still flame out, but he's a special talent.
  14. My point is that it also cut off a guy like ARod who was under 100 ABs in his first season. Okay throw Arod on there does it really make the list look that much better? If we are making a list of players who are very young for their league, who scouts say have star potential, and who OPS+ over whatever cutoff, then yea, I think having ARod on that short list makes a difference.
  15. Because those who had over 300 had a much bigger sample size. I am pretty sure toppers point is that a lot of people have put up numbers like Lawrie's in a shortened first season, but only a handful where All-Stars or HOFers. His list simply proves that people MAY be jumping the gun on the greatness of Lawrie. Now I think Lawrie is going to be very good but that list does show people have had years like Lawrie and fallen off the map or just become mediocre MLB players. My point is that it also cut off a guy like ARod who was under 100 ABs in his first season.
  16. Maybe because your list manages to cut off guys like Braun, Pujols, ARod, Ruth, Williams, ect who fell outside of your 100 - 300 PA in their first season. Not sure what that proves or doesn't prove.
  17. A refurbed Kindle fire at $140 is looking pretty attractive.
  18. If RR can't figure out that Lucroy needs a full day off at some point in the season, I don't expect him to figure out to get in someone's face. The catching platoon needs to be able to catch each pitcher so that they can simply get Luc off the field effectively.
  19. How about HOF potential talent, since that's what was actually said?
  20. Good God. I knew that I wasn't able to keep up with all the money-driven conference re-alignments. They shouldn't be able to call themselves the Big East if they have teams West of the Mississippi. They wont be joining until after next year for the record. Buzz isn't going to SMU so its not a big deal. All these rumors are so annoying.
  21. They are joining the Big East.
  22. It should also be noted that RR basically ran Lucroy into the ground by not giving him full days off. His offensive numbers in the second half hurt his end of the season numbers. Its conceivable that he was an above average hitting catcher before playing every day caught up with him. Hopefully his body gets used to catching every day, or RR gives him actual days off this year. I doubt Lucroy is going to tell his manager he needs an off day.
  23. Only if you assume his 19.7 fielding score was accurate. Hart has had three season where his bat was better than that including the last two. Well I do think Bruce's fielding is far superior to Hart's. But besides that, Hart's years that have been better offensively than Bruce have all come after the age of 25. Bruce is still 24.
  24. This is the point I was making. I understand you got it for home use, and it isn't working at home. I would still see if it works on other networks to determine if the issue is localized or if it is in fact a hardware problem. Or if you are just done with it, take it back. It sounds like you are invested in the Apple ecosystem though so not sure how much you would like an Android tablet, even if you waited for the upcoming Nexus tablet.
  25. Have you gone into the Apple Store to see if they can hook it up to their Wifi? If so, it seems the problem has to be your particular network. Then I guess you would need to decide if it would be worth it to fix the network or get another option.
