  1. Twins win play-in Twins over Rays in 4 Red Sox over Angels in 5 Brewers over Phils in 3 Cubs over Dodgers in 5 Twins over Red Sox in 7 Brewers over Cubs in 6 Brewers over Twins in 7
  2. Dave Bush is going to be filthy rich in two years.
  3. They aren't going to win any games in their last at bat against the Phillies.
  4. Yovani and some combo of McClung/Villy will win the first game. That will send Philly scampering. This first round is so short if you get off on the wrong foot you're playing desperate the rest of the way. Philly has scored a lot more runs, but everything else is equal between these two teams: ERA, avg/obp/slg. The Phillies have faced Yovani once and that was last year. Bush has a 3.50 ERA with a 3:1 K:BB ratio at Miller Park this year. I expect the Brewers to win 2 of the first 3, with a good chance for a sweep.
  5. It's the Brewer way this way! For everyone except Fielder. I think it's some double secret technique Skaalen taught them in Spring Training. "The pitcher will try to fool you with a low outside pitch. He'll think you'll swing at it, but you're going to show him you're smart and not easily fooled. Which is what the defense will suspect all along, so you can double fool them by swinging at it and catching them off guard."
  6. There were rumors Hargrove resigned mid-season because Ichiro hated him and threatened to go free agent if he wasn't removed.
  7. They did have a hot dog bomb scare before last night's game. That was pretty funny.
  8. For me in La Crosse with DirecTV also, although FSN considers me to be in the Twins viewing area and it won't be blacked out on cable.
  9. That makes sense to me. Jim Palmer has said pitchers in his era threw more complete games and pitched more innings per year in part because they were more efficient and tended to pitch to contact, letting the defense make the outs. Exactly why this has changed over time, if in fact it even has, is unclear. Do today's pitcher's monkey around more, wasting more pitches, have hitting approaches changed to taking more pitches, has expansion and 13 man pitching staffs put more crappy arms in MLB?
  10. The Twins are 2nd in the league in batting average, the Brewers 11th. The Twins are also 3rd in obp; the Brewers, 8th. The Brewers are bad in RISP because they are low average, low on base hitters. Their offense has disappeared at times for the same reason. Teams that draw a lot of walks tend to hit for higher average, score more runs, and avoid prolonged offensive slumps. It really has nothing to do with bunting runners over or making "productive" outs. When one team hits .280 with a .341 opb it will have more opportunities and score more runs than a team that hits .254/.327obp. Good discussion.
  11. Counting the playoffs CC pitched 256+ innings in 2007. He's at 244 this year and arguably having the best season of his career. If the Brewers don't make the playoffs he will have pitched less this year than last. He did look worn out during the playoffs last year, but it's hard to argue all those innings last year have had any long term affect.
  12. Earl Weaver philosophy: More runners score from 1st with no outs than from 2nd with one out. If you play for one run that's all you'll get. Pitching, defense, and three homers win games.
  13. Don't the Brewers have the option of adding one person due to the fact that Kapler was injured after the Aug 31st deadline? But I think that person has to have been on the 40 man roster prior to August 31....
  14. Indeed, why not Mike Lamb right now? This topic was discussed at length earlier this month, though I can't find it now. Blalock may be a good option as a lefty platoon, but he can't stay as healthy as Branyan. Casey Blake is good player to have around. I'd like to see them pick up Adrian Beltre for a year, or as a backup plan Melvin Mora. This doesn't solve the lefty bat they so desperately need though. I'd like to see them accomplish that by dropping Cameron and trading for David DeJesus. Weeks DeJesus Braun Fielder Hardy Beltre Hart Kendall
  15. Not many with Ned Yost as manager.
  16. Not really. It's more of a tie breaker game...basically game #163 on the schedule. At least that's how I would see it.Since it counts in the regular season standings, I think that is the correct way to see it. Not a playoff game.
  17. They should not play more often.
  18. They aren't going to waste the last few seasons of this young core on an inexperienced manager. Next year's manager is going to be someone we've all heard of, who's managed successfully in the majors.
  19. No, no, no, you're not on board with "the plan". Weeks must be traded, so he can be punished. Same with Prince. And they HAVE to trade Hardy now, when he's really, really good because his value will never be higher! The ss job must be given to an unproven 21 year old who's never played a season above AA. And Hart should be moved to 1B and Braun to right field and Gamel to left. But Hall should still play at 3rd in 2009! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  20. This topic is deja vu all over again.
  21. They have to be careful who they sign to long term deals. As we are finding out sometimes young talented players improve, sometimes they stagnate and/or decline rather rapidly. For this winter I'd look to sign Hardy to a multi-year deal but take my chances in arbitration with Hart and Fielder. The Brewers control those two for up to 3 more years if they want 'em. Hart is a talented, exciting player, but his numbers this year indicate a below average corner outfielder. Fielder likewise is a talented hiter, patient with power, but this year's offense coupled with questionable defense, indicate a player who may not be that difficult to replace. At this point there is no need to commit to these two beyond the arbitration years.
  22. Torres seems to be the most articulate player in the game. I like that he faces the media after a game, is willing to take the blame, and is eager to go back out there and give it another go. He's a closer by default, not by any sort of overwhelming talent. As said above, I think even the most irrational, fair weather fan understands that. He''s also been consistently good all year. Do I want him back next year? Heck yes! Just not as a closer. Find a good closer type, bring Salomon, Villy, Shouse back; maybe Mota, and you have the foundation for a pretty good bullpen. Strangely enough, yesterday's 9th inning fiasco isn't considered a blown save. So, Torres technically has 7 blown saves. Kerry Wood has 6. IIRC, Wood had at least one 9th inning like that this year. Against Cincy, I believe. Giants fans can't let the 1993 game go anymore than Oriole fans can stop hating Mussina for signing with the Yankees. Both are irrational emotions that fans need to get over. Torres is a classy guy. Look him up in Wikipedia and you'll find this:
  23. Last year Rickie had a higher OPS than Reyes. Brian Roberts was no great shakes his first 1500+ plate appearances either.
