  1. Take it for what it's worth, but baseball trade values has a slightly higher value on Payamps than Ortiz. Ortiz has nowhere to go with Henderson, Holliday, and Westburg there. Payamps is cheap and under control for 3 years and the O's need bullpen, so Payamps will have some extra value to the O's. A true closer such as Williams will cost Baltimore a lot more than Ortiz, in both prospects and salary.
  2. Trade Burnes, Adames, Small, Zamora to Dodgers for Emmett Sheehan (SP), Ryan Pepiot (SP), River Ryan (SP - AAA), Thayron Liranzo (C - A+) Trade Payamps to Baltimore for Joey Ortiz (SS/2B) Free agents: Carlos Santana (1B), Manny Pina (C), Brent Suter (LHRP) Promotions: Tyler Black (3B), Robert Gasser (SP) Only $81M payroll but high upside ML-ready prospects to excite the fanbase and potentially still be competitive. I would like Turang to start in the minors but with the trade of Burnes the Brewers have to get ML-ready pitching back and no free agent 2B interest me. If Turang doesn't hit and needs to be sent down they have Oliver Dunn and Owen Miller to bring up with Ortiz moving over to SS. SP depth: Rea (swingman/6th starter), Ryan (AAA), Carlos Rodriguez (AAA), free agent reclamation projects on minor league deals **Wild Card** - with shedding so much payroll, they sign Trevor Bauer for 1/$15M. C: William Contreras ($0.77M) 1B: Carlos Santana ($8.00M) 2B: Joey Ortiz ($0.77M) 3B: Tyler Black ($0.70M) SS: Brice Turang ($0.77M) LF: Tyrone Taylor ($1.70M) CF: Garrett Mitchell ($0.77M) RF: Sal Frelick ($0.77M) DH: Christian Yelich ($26.00M) Bench OF: Blake Perkins ($0.77M) Utility: Jake Bauers ($1.30M) Utility: Andruw Monasterio ($0.77M) Backup C: Manny Pina ($2.00M) SP1: Freddy Peralta ($5.50M) SP2: Ryan Pepiot ($1.00M) SP3: Adrian Houser ($5.60M) SP4: Emmett Sheehan ($0.77M) SP5: Robert Gasser ($0.70M) CL: Devin Williams ($6.50M) RP: Abner Uribe ($0.77M) RP: Hoby Milner ($1.70M) RP: Bryse Wilson ($1.30M) RP: Brent Suter ($3.00M) RP: Trevor Megill ($0.77M) RP: Elvis Peguero ($0.77M) RP: Colin Rea ($3.50M) Payroll is 45.02% under budget
  3. Assuming the baseball trade values site is somewhat accurate, the Brewers could get: Emmett Sheehan, SP Nick Frasso, SP River Ryan, SP The Dodgers have the young pitching the Brewers need.
  4. Jace Avina had a 30% K rate in low A ball and a 34% K rate in rookie ball. The chances of him becoming a productive major leaguer are about the same as Bauers. My guess is that the Brewers weren't real high on his K rate. The fact that he was consistently batting 6th/7th in the lineup somewhat confirms that.
  5. A trade makes the most sense. Too bad that PTBNLs need to be named within six months of the trade; a PTBNL contingent on pitching in the majors or minors by a certain date might make sense, but he's probably not going to be pitching by 5/16.
  6. The Braves acquired LHRP Aaron Bummer from the White Sox for a package of RHP Mike Soroka, INF Nicky Lopez, LHP Jared Shuster, SS Braden Shewmake, RHP Riley Gowens. Bummer had a terrible ERA, 5.6 BB/9, and 1.526 WHIP but a much better 3.58 FIP and 12 K/9. I know that Soroka isn't what he was pre-injuries, but if that's the market for 30-year-old erratic relievers making $5.5M - $7.5M per year then I'd love to see what the Brewers can get for Payamps.
  7. There was enough of a PR disaster when Counsell unknowingly went to the Cubs that knowingly sending Burnes to the Cubs would make what happened to the Counsell sign at that park look like Sunday School. The Cubs would have to offer the mother of all overpays to get Burnes from the Brewers. And with the Dodgers and Braves feeling the heat from their playoff collapses, and with both having plenty of starting pitching prospects to send back, it will probably take the mother of all overpays to be significantly better than their offers.
  8. The last three managers to win the World Series were 68, 73, and 66 years old. I am not at all concerned about Murphy's age.
  9. Anyone getting a LHH Keith Ginter vibe here?
  10. I would have never guessed that Mendez didn't steal a single base this past season and that for his career he has more CS than SB. Mendez and Moore are still young and might become something, but I didn't have either in my top 30 prospects. Worth a shot for a 2B/3B with a little pop.
  11. Which is why Murphy might be the right hire. Assuming the Brewers do deal Burnes and go rebuild, they will have a team full of young players. They need a coach who is good at working with young players. Murphy was a college coach so he has experience managing young players. Managers such as Mattingly, Ross, other major league bench coaches, etc., who have not managed in the minors or college may not be as good of a fit for a young team because they may be used to managing veterans. Minor league managers have experience working with young players but not managing, or even playing, in the majors. Murphy gives them both - experience managing young players and experience in the majors. Plus, he knows the young players on the team and knows their strengths/weaknesses/what they need for development. Maybe he is the right hire, maybe he isn't - we'll find out. But I see reasons for why he would be a good fit for this team in 2024.
  12. Russia already controls 20% of Georgia territory. There's a reason why it's cheap - Europeans aren't unaware of Georgia. There's plenty of money in Europe to buy property; if there's a place that's cheap, there's a reason why.
  13. The Packers were the 12th oldest team in the league last year. Rodgers, Marcedes Lewis, Cobb, Bakhtiari, Watkins, Jones, Lazard, Jenkins, plus Crosby, Jarran Reed, Campbell, Preston Smith, Amos. 17th oldest in 2021. That's roster age. Field age is another. When the veterans are on IR (Bakhtiari), the field age is even younger.
  14. The big advantage that trades have over FAs is that a trade guarantees that you get that player; the second advantage is at least a year of exclusive negotiation over a contract extension. There's competition for free agents and you don't know if you have the best offer.
  15. UW's defense gave up almost 300 yards in the first half. They gave up 30 total yards in the second half. Wisconsin outgained NU on offense 341 yards to 324. And the offense couldn't score in the second half. Yeah, the defense dug a huge hole in the first half. But they need to figure out what the hell is going on with the offense and why they stall when they get into opponent's territory.
  16. That was the one good decision they made. Don't want to give the other team the ball at midfield with 14 seconds left and three timeouts. I don't think I've seen such poor execution on 3rd down on both sides of the ball in a game ever. And how bad must Nolan Rucci be to not be able to bench Jack Nelson?
  17. Agree on Myers. Also, because they'll probably need SP depth, especially if Burnes is traded, and given the number of spots available, I think McKendry could get added. Maybe Seminaris too as Milner is the only healthy LHRP on the roster. Not saying those guys are great prospects, but with so many spots available and needs at SP and LHRP, better to not risk losing them and have even less depth. Can always outright if the roster fills up with better players.
  18. Regarding the stove, how big is your family and how much baking do you do? If you don't have a large family you can get a couple of portable induction cooktops that plug into standard 120V outlets in your home along with one or two countertop convection ovens that also plug into 120V outlets. Granted, it's just me, but between my small toaster oven, Ninja Foodi, microwave, and an induction cooktop I don't have to use my gas stove at all.
  19. Minimum $400E property purchase (low-density area, otherwise $500E). $350E if in an "urban rehabilitation area" - i.e. a fixer-upper in a slum. And can't be on the coast - has to be inland.
  20. Conveniently nestled between Russia and Iran. Sounds wonderful.
  21. Will the weather (cloudy, rain, lack of sun) in the Seattle area affect their effectiveness and how long it will take to pay for themselves?
  22. Most of them, yes, but not all:
  23. Eh, I think it was more about two things: Inconsistency from said closer leading up to the trade deadline (1.9 HR/9 that season, >4 ERA, going from 1.05 ERA at the beginning of July to 4.34 at the end), coupled with Not letting assets expire #2 is why I think that the Brewers will trade Burnes.
  24. 1) CC (likely) wanted out 2) CC wanted the most money he could get 3) CC wanted to be close to his family He got all three. If there is one underlying thing it is that athletes are very competitive and CC likely felt like the odds were stacked against him winning a WS in MKE. If, in his mind, he wants to be considered as one of the best managers in the game he may think he needs the hardware to prove it. He got a taste of it as a player - twice - and may feel like he needs it again to be considered "the best".
  25. Market rate is what people have actually paid. It doesn't become market rate until someone actually pays it. When Attanasio made his offer no one had paid that yet, thus it wasn't market rate, and he had no reason to believe anyone would pay that because no one ever had. He offered what would have been the highest managerial salary ever paid at the time; that's above market rate.
