  1. It was about making room for Holliday sooner rather than later
  2. CALL THE PARK RANGER - THERE'S A GUY KILLING THE CUBS!!
  3. Holy crap, the contact play worked
  4. Paredes only threw 11 pitches yesterday, so he should be good for 25 pitches tonight. Payamps threw 14 pitches so he should be good for an inning. Hopefully Paredes can get them to the 9th.
  5. Get 'em tomorrow. Maybe their starting pitcher won't paint the corners of the zone all night long. Again.
  6. In the event of injury replacement, are pitchers required to warm up entirely on the mound and not the bullpen? Seems like when they warm up on the mound they have a tendency to rush their warmup and then aren't sharp.
  7. Alright Adames, six more inches this time.
  8. It was in the middle of the plate but at the bottom of the zone. The Cubs pitchers have done a great job of hitting fastballs at the bottom of the zone and then either preceeding that or following it up with sliders/curveballs that start at the same location and then dropping out of the zone. Brewers haven't been able to guess correctly all night.
  9. Linked the wrong Cameron Smith https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=smith-014cam And Tommy White https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=white-000tom And Colby Shelton https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=shelto002col
  10. Which he/she/they is. We've gone over this in another thread. Offers almost always contain non-disclosure clauses and rarely will a team allow you to shop around any offer. If Counsell did, he could get sued (never mind lose a tremendous amount of trust from ever owner for disclosing confidential information). Mark A. offered to make Counsell the highest paid manager in MLB. In no way, shape, or form is it his fault or could he have known that someone else chose to pay well above what was at the time top of the market.
  11. He's not really retiring "immediately". He hasn't worked a game since May 9th, and he and MLB have been negotiating a severance payout since.
  12. Counsell: "The Brewers don't swing 3-0. Just get one over."
  13. Shut up, Swanson. That's been a strike for Steele all stinking game.
  14. Especially considering that for his career, Adames has significant reverse splits. .777 OPS vs RHP, .709 OPS vs LHP. That being said, once you get beyond Sanchez, the pickings are slim vs LHP. Ortiz has major reverse splits in his brief career of 180 PA's, .915 OPS vs RHP and .568 OPS vs LHP.
  15. Sort of. The studio thought that Pryor's history of drug arrests made him uninsurable and they refused to finance the film with him as the star. The first person they offered the other leading role (Gene Wilder's character) was... John Wayne. He declined, feeling that it was a bit too controversial for his image. They gave it to Gig Young, who subsequently collapsed during his first scene from alcohol withdrawal. Which was a good thing, because five years later Young killed his wife in a murder-suicide. Gene Wilder was a "call to the bullpen". Brooks is also the only starring actor from the film still alive (some minor characters are still alive).
  16. The Western Conference finals are a 3 seed and a 5 seed (and the 5 seed just won the first two games on the road). Eastern Conference is a 1 and a 6. Just need to get in.
  17. I think it's more about the "severe" thunderstorm warnings. I don't live in a tent so I don't care. And if the skies start getting suspect, I'll check the weather radar on my phone and get the hell indoors.
  18. He's not comparing them. He's simply giving Paredes' rankings.
  19. This is not limited to baseball, and usually includes the same people who think that the Packers have a bad OL who miss too many blocks, the receivers drop too many passes, the Badgers can't recruit a good QB (neither can 85% of FBS schools), Greg Gard can't coach a team to the Sweet 16 (neither can 335 other FBS coaches) and needs to be fired, etc.
  20. Signed: Wade Miley Joe Ross Jakob Junis Colin Rea (he technically was a FA on 11/1/23 and resigned on 11/2/23) Traded for: 5. DL Hall They literally signed or traded for an entire starting rotation.
  21. Yep. For a while Anheuser-Busch only distributed Budweiser Select in the STL-area, and it said on the packaging "Brewed for The Lou".
