  1. I know the Astros in all likelihood will not make the playoff but I did not realize how well they had been playing so I thought I would point it out. If the Brewers would have only gone 4-4 over their last 8 games instead of winning 8 straight the Astros would only be 4.5 games out. The fact that the Brewer turned it on kept them out of contention more than likely but the Astros could have had a least a little excitement down the stretch.
  2. If my math is correct the Astros are 15-5 since this trade. Not saying it is the reason, but I also wanted to bring attention to the Astros who are playing really good baseball right now. Houston is 4.5 games away from St. Louis and St. Louis is 3.5 games from us before tonights game finished. They are 3 games behind the Mets and 1.5 games behind the Marlins. They would actually tied for the lead in the NL West. Not bad for a team written off for dead just 3 weeks ago.
  3. The Bucks did not need a shoot first point guard. This team is going to be built around Redd, Jefferson, and Bogut this year. The Bucks do not need someone who is a scorer. They need someone who can distribute the ball and play defense. I think between Sessions and Ridnour the point guard position will be fine and the assists out of the point guard will go way up. I do think they could have gotten more value for Mo Williams but I guess I did not really think he was that good to begin with. I thought he was the 4th best player on this team so to me he was disposable, especially with that contract.
  4. With Schafer struggling now in West Virginia it would be nice to see what Komatsu could do up there. His overall numbers are great. Great BA, OBP, power numbers and he walks more than he K's.
  5. Over the past 7 games our starting pitchers have given up 8 ER, over 53.1 innings for an ERA of 1.36. That is a average of around 7.2 innings pitched per start and it is with Sheets and Sabathia only pitching once.
  6. Even though they did not cash them well in the Brewers walked 13 times. For this team that is a positive sign. Also the pitchers struck out 15 batters while walking just one. Outside of one Gagne inning the pitching has been lights out this series. Now I know the Nationals are bad offensively but that is still encouraging.
  7. I am still confused with why Mock pitched Friday night when he was going to pitch Monday. It just seems weird to me, since it was not like the game was close or the game was going to go into extra innings.
  8. How about 14 K's and 1 BB for the Brewer's pitchers thus far today! That is impressive
  9. Baseball Tonight guys talked about the possibility of CC winning the Cy Young. They said it was a remote possibility but that he had a chance. Who are the favorites right now? I am guessing Brandon Webb is up there with the 16 wins and a 2.93 ERA. Tim Lincecum has to be up there as well. Zambrano, Dempster and Volquez all will get some consideration depending on how they finish. Dan Haren has been under-appreciated this year. Peavey and Santana have nice ERA's but low win totals so they are out. I think CC and Sheets could jump right up there if they finish strong. I am guessing they both have around 9 starts left but my math could be off. Ben has cooled off a lot lately, so he would need a really nice finish, but if CC pitches like he has been I would have to guess he would be at least top 3
  10. That may be true but the stats do seem to show the bottom end teams being the really bad hitting teams dont they? If I am reading correctly the Padres, Giants, Royals, Mariners, and A's are at the bottom and the Cubs, Red Sox, Rangers, Cards, and Yankees are the top teams. So, they do seem to add up. Although, I am slightly confused with what stats are exactly being observed so I could be wrong
  11. It is not a huge but Parra is less than one year older than Eveland. Parra - October 30th 1982. Eveland - October 29th 1983. Eveland could pitch on this team but I still think Parra has more upside and am glad he is in the rotation. That being said I agree the trade has been rough for us.
  12. I would say a good defensive first baseman is really underrated by many. I love watching Derek Lee because it just seems like he digs out so many throws. I actually watched some of the Cubs game yesterday with a Cubs fan, and after Lee dug out a ball he began to talk about how many plays like that he made a year. He said that Lee basically saved Ramirez from 15 or more errors his first year on the team. This guy is a really smart baseball guy, so I take him at his word. Prince's recent hot streak has made his number better than Lee's offensively, but from just the naked eye Lee's defense seems drastically better so I am not sure who I would rather have. Lee's ability to dig, his range, and his length all huge assets and he saves his fellow infielders errors and his pitcher from throwing more pitches and pitching with runners on base.
  13. And for a moment the Rickie haters and the people in dismay over our hitting with RISP can relax
  14. "If the Tom H. newspaper account is correct, then I have little problem with Prince shoving Manny." So, the proper response to a pitcher leaving the dugout to either clear his head or ice his arm or whatever is to repeatedly shove him into the bench and then flip out to the point you need to be restrained by four guys. I have seen players head to a locker room to clear their head way more often then I have seen a shoving match at a game. Did Prince know Parra was not coming back after a trip to the dugout. "This kind of stuff really does happen all the time." This is just unsubstantiated. How many dugout fights have occurred this year? Spread it out to other sports how many sideline fights have you scene. I am all for showing emotion just when it is reasonable. When emotions can't be controlled ala Carlos Zambrano or Prince then I have a big problem with it. If you are upset with losing take extra batting practice, fielding practice, or get in a little better shape you dont throw a guy into a bench.
  15. If Parra would shoved Prince into the bench in the bleachers he would not be getting a "pass.". Just like if all Prince would have done is yell at Parra he would be getting a "pass." Players get frustrated and say stupid things and that is an understandable part of the game, but a physical altercation with a teammate is not, especially not in public. I am actually surprised people are trying to compare what Parra said, and maybe a little piece of jacket hitting Prince (which seemed very unintentional) to what Prince did. Parra at worst was immature in saying something stupid, or immature in leaving the dugout (of course he may have a routine once he is out especially with his injury history), Prince was shoved him twice and then had to be restrained. It was embarrassing just like the Zambrano-Barrett fight last year.
  16. 1. Hardy - I have liked him since he came up and struggled. I love watching him in the field 2. Braun - He is probably this high since I know he is going to be here a while 3. Hart - I like a guy with hustle and talent 4. Parra - I think it is easy to forget this is his first full year in the majors 5 Gallardo - he would be higher probably if he was pitching right now 6. Weeks - I know I am a sucker 7. Sheets 8. Suppan - this once makes no sense in a lot of ways, but I like him 9. Joe Dillion 10 - CC - He would be top 3 if he was going to be here next year.
  17. I guess I dont understand the idea that this happens all the time. Now this is not as big of a deal as some may make it but it is still not a normal everyday thing. How many fights have happened in the dugout this year? I know stuff happens behind closed doors, but that is totally different from out in the open. When stuff happens in the dugout like that it is a lack of maturity in my mind, not an everyday expression of emotion. I played on some really successful sports team and have never seen another player get in a physical altercation at a game. In practice yes, but not in a game.
  18. The mlb.com story about it shows Braun to be deserving. A couple other guys had really good months as well, Ryan Howard, LaRoche, Holliday and Dunn stood out, but Braun had an OPS 1.163, 9 HR (with missing a couple games b/c of the All-Star game) and batted .366. That is one heck of a month.
  19. If this really was about getting hit in the face with a little bit of a coat it is worse to me than if it started with a heated exchange about Prince not getting to a ball or something to that affect. At least the second one would be a man defending his abilities, albeit in a way too extreme manner. If it really about getting hit in the face with a jacket than it is ridiculous over-reaction that makes no sense to me. I would like to see Prince sat one game. I don't think it needs to be too much but just something to say this isn't okay, even if the team is saying it is not a big deal. I was impressed with the way some of the guys stepped in.
  20. I would say Inman's last 2 months show him to be a relief pitcher not a starter. Unless he can learn to pitch to contact and make in past 5 innings in AA he does not even project as a MLB starter does he? I guess maybe a 5th starter. Mass is right his ERA is so deceptive right now as are his K/IP stats since it isn't as impressive in my mind to strike out guys if you are throwing that pitches to do it.
  21. What does Eric Komatsu have to do to get moved up? His numbers are great across the board. Good BA, OBP, and OPS. He has a great eye striking out once every 11 at-bats. He is a left handed hitting CF, which is intriguing as well. With Gindl, Haydel and Schafer (who is also doing very well right now although his low walk rate is a concern) there may not be a spot for Komatsu, but it seems like a bump in competition would be good for him. For those who have not been impressed with the draft class Komatsu and Schafer are other guys to be excited about. Guys, who for at least right now, are playing CF and are left-handed bats. After them there is obviously guys like Ordorizzi who is showing why he was a first round pick with a really nice numbers. Billings just started pitching and has had some nice outings. I agree with the comments on Lintz as his numbers are going to look bad after one rough outing, but before that things looked good. Corey Kemp has put up nice numbers for a catcher. Cutter Dykstra has handled Helena well for a high-school guy. Pitchers like Luetge, Wooten, Bowman. Adams, and Salmon have pitched well to varying degrees, with Bowman, Luetge, and Wooten already pitching in low-A ball. There have been disappointments like Duran, but would not even call Fredrickson a disappointment. I think his walks were expected and we will see what an off-season with Brewer coaches will do.
  22. This really is not true. If Parra triples with Kendall on first, then you have a tie game at 2-2 with a runner at 3rd with only one out. Now with the way this team has hit with RISP it definitely is not a lock that the run scores, but it is not so simple in baseball to say it turns a 7-2 game into a 7-3 game. One decision can change the course of a game.
  23. Konerko has been terrible this year. He is slugging .349 with an OPS of .661. Griffey's stats though not great are better than that. He is slugging .432 with an OPS .787. It is not a huge upgrade but he can bring something to the team. The question is how much did Chicago give up.
