  1. Two things: 1) The media is publishing stories questioning the study 2) If there's fault its from the study, not the media, which is why I linked directly to the study and not a story about the study Here is a story that addresses the issues with research, estimates, etc. https://www.inverse.com/mind-body/sturgis-coronavirus-report-explained Now, let's look at how the Washington Post reported on the study (https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/09/08/worst-case-scenerios-sturgis-rally-may-be-linked-266000-coronavirus-cases-study-says/): Yes, the article does a fairly good job of presenting both sides, but in today's "Twitter-like" society, people will draw conclusions based on what the headline says. They ignore the "could" and look at "Worst Case." For those who took the time, they would see that the 266,000 is at the highest end. The Inverse.com article (who?) blows more holes in it by talking about lack of peer reviews, and that the paper is not even a scientific paper, but an economic one. The media is in the business of making money. They make money by sensationalizing headlines and even developing narratives to push an agenda. Unfortunately, people will just look at the sound bite, or headline and make judgments from that. Then... many "journalists" who are really op ed hacks end up being considered experts. People who don't know any better won't care because they need a quick hitter to inform them of what is going on. So, to say the media is publishing stories to question the study is not entirely false. However, the majority of the audience will not take the time to read the story. Is it the audience's fault, the media's fault, or the study's fault? I might suggest a combination of all three.
  2. It helps that my oldest daughter (staying with us while completing Pharmacy degree) and my wife are doing it with me. I don't know if I would be able to do it without doing it with them, but I am a wuss when it comes to will control at times. I also take walks during the day making sure I hit the 10,000 step threshold. Honestly, it was hard the first week to stay the course. After that, it has been easy. I went with my family to Red Robin to celebrate a birthday a few weeks ago and after some onion rings, I could only finish 1/2 of my burger. No lie -- my stomach wouldn't take any more. Before the "diet," it wouldn't be much for me to pound down the burger after a bunch of apps and a beer or two. I don't know if anybody else has a testimony related to this diet, but it has worked for me. If you decide to embark on the journey, I hope it goes well. Some results may vary
  3. Ok... I'll back this one up. I started my Intermittent Fasting at the beginning of May. Today, it got to 34 lbs. A long way to go (maybe another 40), but it works. There are a few things for me that helped. First, an app called Fastic. Yes... I could probably "remember," but the app helps. Next, although you can eat anything for the most part during the 8-hour eating phase, try to eat more keto-friendly foods. Finally, drink the water. I am 51 and I have found out that during the fasting time, I require some more water. I don't know how much I drink during the day, but don't go to the bathroom as much as I thought I would. One other thing -- I despise coffee. Instead of diet soda, I drink Spark from Advocare. Much healthier...
  4. OMG! I laughed so hard after seeing this one.
  5. I would love to see Giannis stay and then the Bucks could get a guy like Chris Paul. It sounds like he is not happy and perhaps a trade of some type might work. [sarcasm]... and let's get Currie out of Golden State... Eastern Conference Super Team!!!!![/sarcasm]
  6. It would be ironic. He wanted Middleton and everyone else back, then trurn around and say sorry you guys suck I'm outta here. Especially ironic when you consider he's part of the reason they're losing. He's part of the reason they're losing as far as the fact that he's on the team. But we all know what Giannis is. A medicore shooter, a meh free throw shooter, but a prolific scorer. The "wall" doesn't work with one guy like Klay Thompson on the team. I won't blame him for leaving if it's to pair with better firepower. A wall in the paint shouldn't kill a team like it does to the Bucks. I don't pin much of this on him. They're just a medicore shooting team; they were all year if you look at the 3s. Giannis isn't a versatile enough player to carry a team to a title. He's an awesome player, but his offense never truly rounded out the way LeBron's did, where he became a good enough long range shooter that you have to at least respect him from out there. When you play five out or 4 out, you aren't going to have the ability to have offensive rebounds. You simply don't have the bodies. Jack up a three and have everybody run back down the floor after missing. Miami went 17/45 from three point land. They almost made as many shots as the Bucks attempted. The Bucks need a better floor general. Bledsoe isn't it. The Bucks need a more consistent shooter. Middleton isn't it -- he just isn't as reliable. The Bucks need another player who can play down low. Neither Lopez brother can do this consistently. The Bucks need to start to be more dynamic on offense. Surrounding Giannis with four "shooters" isn't getting it done, either. If Giannis leaves, I will lose a lot of interest in the Bucks since I am, admittingly, a fair-weather fan.
  7. Heat in 4... Giannis to Golden State
  8. Well, the Woodland Conference has pushed back Football and Boys Soccer to the spring. Since the traditional Woodland Conference is split up for Football (Woodland and Parkland), the Parkland will be playing in fall for now. Here is a link to a worksheet that is, I think, updated by the WIAA or by Wissports.net: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rUPHtu-DaR99M-8XO3WUQxj18mohrpXb06AjR6z1tRw/edit#gid=0 My son was told that he will be able to play both football and baseball this spring. I don't know how that is going to work. If baseball carries over into summer, he will be playing with his summer academy team instead of the high school team.
  9. You need to put the political coefficient into the equation. Ahhhh... but that is for a different board
  10. Resurrecting an older thread... Working from home with windows open. Neighbor leaves their dog outside that is whining to come back into the house. Windows get closed during conference calls...
  11. Congrats!!!!!! Perhaps we can reserve the jokes for a later date...
  12. FINALLY saw Joker. Very interesting. Am I to understand that it should not be considered canon?
  13. I rode a bike (a.k.a. motorcycle ) when a car pulled out in front of me. I flew over the hood and ended up with a sprained ankle. However the scratches on my helmet told me, whether right or wrong, that it kept me from additional injury. That is something very tangible and understandable to a lot of people. COVID still has a lot of unknown factors. Virology sucks... LOL
  14. Just north of the Florence / Marinette county line off of U. How about you?
  15. We are in your neck of the woods -- just north of Dunbar. Over the years, the cell coverage has been better (AT&T), but it depends on the phone. If I put the phone in a certain corner of the cabin, I can use it as a hot spot to do some work. It also depends on the season (leaves or not) and the wind (I swear...) Every time I look at changing to a new carrier, I look at the coverage map. Very few cover Florence county. Even the coverage in Aurora (just south of Iron Mountain) is poor. At least it gives my kids a chance to learn to live without a cell phone. I'll chalk that up as a win.
  16. Based on the title of the thread, I was going to point you to Bob Ross videos. After reading the posts, though, I know that would not have made sense...
  17. Unfortunately, the system and timing of things doesn't bode well for late bloomers. Let's say a boy is 5'6" and shows promise, but really grows in his senior year of high school. It is very, very tough to break in unless he goes JUCO for a year or two.
  18. 1. Field of Dreams 2. Major League 3. The Natural -- all before the last scene...
  19. I don't disagree with what you said, but my only response would be that you don't need to be in church to practice your faith(funerals are different). In fact, I'm pretty sure the bible even says something similar. I may be misremembering. This is one thing the Elders of our church are wrestling with. In Hebrews 10:24-25, it says, "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." The context for this is a little bit different because Hebrews addresses how people were reacting to the validity of Christ -- and how to face persecution related to their faith. However, this is one thing that is quoted often. Can you practice your faith without having to go to church? Sure. I see my older friends struggling with this because they either don't know how to use technology, or they really yearn for the face-to-face contact. Over the past few months, our staff put sermons and other videos on YouTube. I found encouragement in those messages. Our church had a parking lot service this past Sunday. It is possible they will start meeting in the sanctuary, but masks will be required, social distancing will need to be observed and enforced. I know there are some churches that aren't using that amount of discernment. The food pantry has been open during the pandemic, though. An awesome way to meet the needs of the people, for sure.
  20. Recently finished Clone Wars and Rebels. I may watch the Mandalorian again now I have a better understanding of Mandalor and the Dark Saber.
  21. Unless I'm Kevin Bacon, I'm not a fan of having the government tracing my steps. Sure... I know they can track my cell phone and get a history of where I have been. However, if they start publishing some type of report, I would be quite disturbed. I would not want to suffer the same fate as Comrade Withers...
  22. Interesting you mentioned Grand Appliance. We have a dishwasher and our hard food disposal started making some bad sounds. Our unit is rather old, so we chose to purchase a new one. I did some research and we decided to go to Home Depot (Best Buy was by appointment only). We got to the store and they didn't have the model that we wanted on site (we wanted to look at it). They also said it would take 2-3 weeks for delivery AND they could not install it because of some codes in our community. We went to Grand Appliance on Layton in Greenfield and they directed us towards a different dishwasher. Plus, they have independent guys who install the appliances. It is costing us $170 for delivery, takeaway of the old one, and installation. Bad year for the Samurai household for appliances -- Dryer, Refrigerator (the day AFTER the lockdown), and now the dishwasher. Better than last year when it was four car accidents with two of the vehicles being totaled. Like you, I am happy with Grand Appliance.
  23. https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/investigations/coronavirus-excess-deaths-may/ "Between March 1 and May 9, the nation recorded an estimated 101,600 excess deaths, or deaths beyond the number that would normally be expected for that time of year…" Unknown how many of these are due to Covid and how many are due to other things. Does this mean the event was mishandled, or the original estimate was wrong? ... or maybe a combination of both? ... but it is not the flu...
  24. Its not about taking a side. Its about wanting games played. Sure owners could operate this season at a loss, but there is no motivation for them to do so. By the same logic, the millionaire players could play this season for free. If the players are going to take a hardline stance of no paycut with substantial revenue reduction, the season doesn’t seem possible. s A player making zero dollars is not the same as an owner losing money on an investment. Even if a player were making zero dollars, does the contract cover health care costs? I'm guessing the team typically pays for surgery, etc. According to the following link, it seems like they would still receive insurance... https://www.quora.com/What-kind-of-health-insurance-do-MLB-players-receive
