  1. I like how you omitted the goofers. I see what you did there...
  2. 2010: Capers' defense finished the season ranked 2nd in scoring defense, 5th in total defense, 2nd in interceptions, 2nd in sacks, and 1st in opposing quarterback passer rating, in spite of being decimated by injuries during the 2010 season. 2011: Capers lead a 5th ranked defensive squad and helped the Packers win the Super Bowl. During the playoff run his team had a pick 6 in the final 3 playoff games that year; Divisional Round (Williams), Championship game (Raji), and in Super Bowl 45 (Collins.) Seems like a long time ago... Thanks for the list. From what I have heard, some players think Capers' system is "antiquated." I'm not sure about that. IMHO, he doesn't have the talent. Ergo Ted Thompson is the primary reason.
  3. Wisconsin gets more love if they score > 50 and win by > 30 vs. Iowa.
  4. TED THOMPSON: EXPOSED! Has there been a time when Aaron Rodgers was the QB when the Pack had a good defense?
  5. When they dump the pitcher in the NL in favor of the DH in the next couple of years, make sure you have Garvey and some of the other old timers in your death pool...
  6. This is an excellent point. Three of my four children played for a reputable club in the Milwaukee area -- and it cost a lot of money. I do not know of any programs towards the inner city. Some teams that exist outside of some of the larger metro areas (Milwaukee, Madison, Appleton / Fox Valley) aren't very consistent. It gets back to the mighty dollar. How many Milwaukee Wave players will "donate their time" to help out with the Kickers? I think when Alex Nicolic started the kickers, he didn't do it with the intent of making a huge money-making empire, but wanted to promote the game of soccer. When I was coaching 5-10 years ago, nobody worked harder than him. Unfortunately, I don't think soccer is the only sport that is affected. For softball, it costs around $2000+ to be on a BATS team (unless you "know" somebody). The Bandits, Wisconsin Lightning, and other clubs are just as expensive, or more expensive. My son plays on a community baseball team in southwestern Milwaukee county. While he gets some adequate coaching, he does not get the "scout from the White Sox" or other coaches who have Major League exposure / experience. I don't know if there is an answer. I found this article which shares thoughts from a few years ago. Is this the answer -- for any sport? http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/06/magazine/06Soccer-t.html
  7. I was at a game this year in the Loge level on the third base side when Vogt hit a foul ball our way. I instinctively yelled, "heads up," but fortunately it missed the beer vendor who had his back to the field, and the people waiting for their beer. Not sure I want netting up at the loge level ;-). I wonder how much frustration there has been among hockey fans about netting.
  8. I enjoyed it as well. I have a few kids I coach that saw it, but didnt enjoy it nearly as much as I did. What are they going to call the next movie? IT: the Second Course?
  9. Good article on Brew Crew Ball suggesting we get ready to see a lot of K's for years to come. https://www.brewcrewball.com/2017/9/7/16265944/like-it-or-not-the-milwaukee-brewers-just-dont-care-about-strikeouts
  10. Super answers!!!! Thanks, guys!!!
  11. Let me know if you start quoting the Five Hour Energy or Wisconsin Dells commercials while watching on FoxSportsGo. "It is so big, I need a step ladder to see it all." "But you're afraid of heights!"
  12. This has been something I have thought about quite a bit (maybe I need a life...). If somebody shortens up on two strikes and gets the ball in play, I frequently hear TV color or play-by-play people mention how awesome that is. Yet, I don't know how much if it is taught. I teach hitting to youth players (boys and girls) and focus on squaring up the ball and keeping a level swing. I also teach to shorten up on two strikes and to still have a good swing, but not to swing out of your shoes. When I have helped some teams, they tell me that most all other coaches tell them to not shorten up, to swing very hard on two strikes. The rationale is that they would rather have a batter strike out more often if it means that they will hit more homers. My focus typically is on Quality At Bats (QAB as defined by Game Changer) and also Contact Percentage. However that might not be where my focus should be. Here is an old article from the Hardball Times outlining the relationship between Contact Percentage and Batting Average (http://www.hardballtimes.com/plate-discipline-stats-in-action/) What does everybody think about the two hitting approaches, and what do you see as the goal being taught?
  13. We have Roku devices. We downloaded the Fox Sports Go app. Once we access it, it will ask us to enter a confirmation code (follow directions on screen). After that, we were good to go. The authentication needs to be done for each device. PlayStation Vue broadcasts WITI (Fox 6) and WDJT (58) in Milwaukee. It also provides DVR for those as well. The other Milwaukee stations haven't come on board, yet.
  14. We went white water rafting at the Royal Gorge. The water will be down compared to the spring. Even if you don't go rafting, it is a cool place to visit. It is about 90 minutes from Colorado Spring.
  15. Finally saw Logan. That movie is one they should study in film class. Very deep; lots of symbolism. Oh... there is a lot of good action, too.
  16. Remember, Brian Anderson came from a background of being on golf telecasts. However, I don't find him all that boring. I appreciate his approach to calling the game. Anderson must really stink because he is frequently pulled to do national broadcasts. Lepay is, IMHO, one of the best play by play announcers on the radio in the country. The gentleman from Ohio State does a very good job, too, but isn't as good as Lepay. I think we get spoiled by the talent in the broadcasting world in Wisconsin.
  17. The main thing is that you want ones compatible with a "smart" stylus which makes note taking a million times easier. I think the 'mini' size would be too small for note-taking. Otherwise it probably doesn't matter much unless he strongly prefers Apple products. The note-taking apps are available across iOS and other platforms. My first daughter is in her third year and we purchased as Surface for her. It has a stylus and allows you to put your hand on the surface of the device while you write. It was a little pricey. She doesn't use it for writing notes that often and ends up typing the notes in instead. Many schools will allow free licenses of Office 365 as part of going to their school. Onenote would be the program to use to manage notebooks. In the past, I have tried to use an iPad as a note taking device and it simply didn't work for me.
  18. Spider-Man Homecoming at the BistroPlex! YESSSSSS!!!!
  19. If you have Windows 10, look for an app at the Microsoft Store named "WiFi Analyzer". It is free and has great tools for seeing the strength of signal, and other wifi networks in the area. That is where I looked to determine what channel I should use on the router.
  20. Is it a modem / router supplied by the cable company? If so, perhaps you can give them a call to have them turn on the 2.4Ghz band. If it is yours, then you should be able to go into the configuration and turn it on if it isn't on.
  21. Drivel. I don't even know what scrappiness means, but I'm pretty sure hitting the snot out of the ball is the reason they're in 1st place. Last year they had a losing record, guessing it's not because they didn't work hard and this year they are. But the sports media in Wisconsin, in general, knows very little about baseball so it's easy to just throw out "my oh my what a scrappy group." OPTIMISM THREAD! THEY ARE THE SCRAPPIEST BUNCH OF SCRAPPERS THAT EVER SCRAPPED. I think this thread is a bunch of scrap!
  22. http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/sports/wp/2015/11/23/running-up-the-bills/?utm_term=.4af3b0d1ad87 Very lengthy and somewhat old article. However, it has a lot of good charts, graphs, and content. Let's follow a train of thought: athletes get a scholarship and also get a stipend from the school. What should that stipend be? $200/week? What would that stipend be used for? The 53" TVs I see in many athletes rooms might not be big enough, I guess. Also, keep in mind that for sports like softball, swimming, wrestling, etc., athletes rarely get a 100% full ride. Many times, the program is given a small number of scholarships, 8 for example, that need to be divided up among 20 athletes. What do athletes at D1 schools receive? (my daughter played softball at a D3 school, and received none of these) Training table (i.e. food), a personal athletic trainer, tutors if necessary, among other things. The daughter of a friend of mine is playing volleyball at the University of Minnesota. She was surprised when each member of the team has their own personal trainer. Yes... a 1-to-1 ratio. She is only receiving a 50% scholarship (IIRC), but is getting a lot of other benefits that I never had access to. Should those trainers be paid? I doubt they would be. They will most likely graduate with tens of thousands in debt while my friends daughter will most likely have little to no debt. Players should not be paid a salary above and beyond their scholarship... period.
  23. Maybe he will look like this?
  24. Thoughts (no basis for these, and random musings): Luke dies Rey is the one who kills him because she has to decide between Luke and her family Kylo Ren is almost killed by Snoke because he isn't strong enough The movie ends with Rey either being captured or convinced to join Snoke. She could also be a force user who is able to harness both the light and dark sides. Kylo is left half dead with her mom, Leia, to recover. It is revealed that Snoke is a cross between Mace Windu and Jar Jar Binks.
  25. It has been three months or so since we cut the cord. Great decision!!!! We went with Playstation VUE and there have been times where buffering has been an issue for more popular games. It buffered once or twice during the National Championship game last night. 2 Roku Streaming Sticks, 1 Roku Express, 1 happy customer.
