  1. I'd like to see the Brewers interview Dale and other candidates.
  2. Wow, multiple generations of a family posting on Brewerfan - that's great! I make up the third generation of baseball fans in my family. My grandfather went to lots of Braves games; he and my grandmother and mother went to the 1955 all-star game, and the 1957 and '58 World Series. I didn't know my mother had attended the 1955 all-star game until she told me, the day before the 2002 equivalent event. I also didn't know my grandfather's County Stadium seats were in LGS 3 until after he died and I inherited some of his ticket stubs. LGS 3 was our section in the 1990s. We brought my mom to one of the exhibition games in March. She has physical difficulty with loud noises, so most of the regular season games would have been too noisy for her (now that the team is popular). We also have brought my nephew to an annual game for three years now, so I'm working on developing a fourth generation fan (it helps that he lives near bensheeps and his warped family).
  3. The first Brewers game I attended was September 25, 1983. From the top row of the upper grandstand we watched Baltimore beat Milwaukee and celebrate their AL East championship. I wondered then what it must have been like to be at a "big game" like those I'd seen on TV at the end of the 1982 season; and I wondered the same thing, at least for a moment, at each game I attended between that day and last Sunday. That is a lot of wondering. So it took 25 years and a few days, but at long last I've experienced big, meaningful games and big, meaningful wins, for my team. This last week was a beautiful bonus. I didn't feel nervous at all for either of this weekend's home games, and I'm chronically anxious. I was just glad they were taking place. Saturday was more fun than today, of course, but I enjoyed both games. The only thing that disappoints me tonight (OK, besides those four "enemy" home runs) is that we now have to wait months for another game. The end of the season feels to me like December 26 felt when I was a kid. Thanks to players and staff (yes, even staff who aren't employed there anymore) for a wonderful and happily memorable season. I was at 35 games - the Brewers were 22-11 in the regular season games, 1-1 in the postseason - and despite the sleep deprivation, hours spent in the car, and cost of fuel (thank goodness for the Prius), I had a blast from start to finish. Finally, being able to share the season with this community made the whole experience even better. That I was able to meet several of you this year was icing on the cake.
  4. Oh, I hope that's a compliment. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Anyone sitting toward the center of 213 today would have felt like they were practically at the Packer game, based on the number of updates we heard from the guys behind us. We had a conflict with Wisconsin volleyball (quit rolling your eyes, everyone except Jimbo), but being Brewer-mad, we had no problem skipping our first match in several years.
  5. We waited for a while too (must have been why we crossed paths on the way out, Jamie), and Phillies action did not take up that much space or time - though I'm not surprised it would have looked otherwise on TV. It would have been nice for there to be a semi-formal announcement that the Brewers weren't going to make an encore, rather than some not very cordial ushers barking at fans who were seeking a bit of closure. (I'm not speaking for all ushers, but one of the employees clearing 213 was unnecessarily brusque.)
  6. We were surprised too, and the only explanation we could think of was the presumably large contingent of complimentary tickets. There were certainly lots of standees, seemingly all over. I suppose some ticketholders opted to go to the UW game (though I personally can't fathom why, but different strokes).
  7. Congrats on your win today. Can't say I'll be watching, I'd prefer to get away from baseball for a couple days as a Cubs fan, but good luck. I'll be rooting for the Brewers, as it's always interesting to watch game fives or sevens. Let's remember that for all the arrogant types in the Cubs' fanbase for whom it's hard not to feel some schadenfreude today, there are better fans who deserved a better fate. Thanks and condolences, splintersag. It sucks when your team reaches the postseason and is eliminated without a win. Moving on to today's game...keep the Brewers in it, Soup, and everyone else back him up. That's teammates and fans alike. Justify my sleep deprivation!
  8. Not to rub it in for those of you who couldn't attend, but this game was a pretty sweet experience. The Brewers' record vs. the Phillies in 2008 when I'm in attendance is now 2-0. After last weekend, it was so nice to have a partisan crowd, instead of bipartisan. I haven't been in as loud of a Camp Randall crowd before. Kohl Center, yes, but that's a smaller facility. Way to go, fellow attendees.
  9. Barely minutes ago, I said essentially the same thing in an email to a friend. I can tell you this time a week ago, I wouldn't have bet on it. But that's why they play the games. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. Seeing the Cubs' season end before the Brewers' does not bug me one bit.
  11. Hmm, the link worked for me just now. Anyway, here is the text from the JSOnline blog entry that prompted the thread in zachlaka's link: Link to JSOnline blog Goodies for Game 3 By Don Walker Friday, Oct 3 2008, 10:40 AM All fans attending Game 3 of the National League Division Series at Miller Park on Saturday will receive a voucher redeemable for a 2008 Milwaukee Brewers DVD. The DVD will include approximately 30 minutes of season highlights plus game action and the post-game celebration from the Sunday, September 28 clinching day at Miller Park. Fans also will be given a Brewers rally towel.
  12. Well, the Brewers didn't lose yesterday when you wore the jersey, so why not?
  13. No wave during the game! Quick question: Should I wear my Davis jersey? or would that be bad mojo? Obviously it's a special enough occasion...
  14. Your moderators appreciate that everyone has kept the discussion of this potentially hot-button issue civil. Keep it up. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Here, too, is a link that further explains the lead post.
  15. http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:hpoc62xmEYTmkM:http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z296/dodgersrule7/bush.jpg Whoa, that picture makes him look hella tough. Bring home a quality start, Dave Bush! and everyone else, BACK HIM UP (teammates and fans alike).
  16. Geez. Well, that explains why they weren't playing at UW volleyball this evening.
  17. Julian Tavarez, Carlos Zambrano, or Brett Myers. And thanks, mothership, for making me laugh out loud in the library.
  18. I might be in the market for this. I'm sending a PM - let me know tonight if you do not have the pass anymore.
  19. As a fellow Brewers fan, I agree with BrewBomber. Posters who say "see you in March" may as well step away until March. As a moderator, I ask that you both refrain from these comments.
  20. Well, by all means, be sure to tell them. Or bring a sign, in case it's loud and your voice is drowned out. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  21. What strikes me about that blog is how nice all of the comments are (except one "go Phillies" comment). Someone must be moderating it around the clock. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. Your Milwaukee Brewers continue NLDS play Thursday, aiming to bring a 1-1 series tie back to Milwaukee. http://graphics.jsonline.com/graphics/photographer/28/28776_large.jpg CC Sabathia takes the mound on three days' rest, following a landmark win for the franchise on Sunday. http://d.yimg.com/a/p/sp/getty/0e/fullj.4deb163f6604ce182f968d96ec41746d/4deb163f6604ce182f968d96ec41746d-getty-80321677dh0373_brav_phil.jpg Brett Myers last pitched September 24, surrendering 10 hits and 6 runs (4 earned) in 4.1 innings vs. the Braves.
  23. Well, game 1 of the 1982 World Series was a dominating victory for the Brewers, yet not enough to save them in the end. The 2008 Brewers are certainly still in this series, and they didn't completely shame themselves today. It was hard to tell (on the Union's projection TV) how wet the grounds/ball were on the error/miscue plays. Not to make excuses - and we all know too well that Rickie and Bill miscuing is not a rarity - but I wondered right away if that could have made a difference.
  24. I find my rankings line up closely with those of Brian the Automator, except I'd swap Phillies and Dodgers (mainly for G-Whiff). Hence... Brewers, Rays, Angels, Phillies, Dodgers,White Sox, Red Sox,Cubs. I've got a high school buddy who follows the Angels; I'd be pleased for him if they won. But there's a mighty dropoff in my interest after the Rays. A Cubs-Red Sox series is one I probably wouldn't even watch.
  25. JSOnline has a collection of pre-2004 Uecker clips here, including Dale Sveum's Easter Sunday 1987 home run.
