  1. If there's a G platoon at 1B, I have dibs on the name Greenzalez.
  2. I admit, the main appeal of the WBC for me is that it results in spring training starting early enough so the Brewers can play on my birthday. Twice this year, even, if you count split-squad contests as separate. I also keep thinking the title of this thread is spam. It's a moderator's life.
  3. I was going to say, this thread is like old home week.
  4. I was just going to post that here, but OWBC was a little faster. I suppose it neither proves nor disproves anything (so far), but sigh.
  5. It's Valentine's Day, and no one in the hawing household cares, and that is fine with both of us. I feel fortunate to be on the same wavelength as the SO on this. Lest you get overly jealous, the SO's birthday was less than a month ago and mine is in about a week and a half, meaning it'll be this time next week or later before the SO begins to ask if I'd like anything for my birthday. ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=818581#p818581 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?f=67&t=2351
  6. The UW wrestling coach was our next door neighbor for a while in the 90s. He is an Olympic medalist and is probably reeling tonight. Eliminating wrestling from the Olympics is just baffling to me.
  7. Welp, we broke our household rule by turning off the TV after Michigan's last regulation three and heading out to start errands before the postgame traffic blocked our neighborhood. Ben freaking Brust certainly showed us what for.
  8. The "foot injury" quote is from Francisco Cervelli, not Ryan. Link
  9. It sounds like BSC has found a strategy that works for him, though.
  10. Oh, I saw that at midday and was literally planning to tweet Adam McCalvy and ask if he really wanted to invite trouble with a headline like that. I would have had a chance to do it when I got home tonight, but then I had to shovel. Damn you, snow! Of course, I realize it's possible McCalvy doesn't write the headlines.
  11. A couple of seasons ago, some guys from the Mt. Horeb Fire Department did an outstanding job with the anthem, barbershop-quartet style. (It may have been a quartet; I heard it on the radio and so didn't see the singers.) If they don't make a visit to MP every year, they should.
  12. I hope the injury does not interfere with his post-baseball life. I also do not think I will miss him on the field. It's going to be hard for me to forget his hanging Nyjer out to dry and then 'fessing up to his own less than stellar behavior months later. Also, pogokat is right. Pretty much every STL signing I've noticed this (and any) off-season has me thinking, "yep, gonna hate that guy now that he's practically an automatic Brewer killer."
  13. It is not a death march meant to be played a slow as possible. Nor should you add your own note in between all of the real notes. Just play it straight and get it over with. Listen to a good marching band play it. They usually play it correctly. I hate whenever someone from Steetlife is at Miller park... The hawing household has heard the Streetlife singer do the anthem so many times that we could probably sing along with all of her little variations. They usually pick the Streetlife saxophone guy to do the season-finale anthem, and since the season finale always makes me sad, that version does now too. Overly "American Idol-ized" anthems make me tempted to roll my eyes, though I'm sure many are delivered with good intentions. One thing I don't like about the extra notes is that it discourages the audience from singing along. Having said this, I was OK with Alicia Keys' performance on Sunday, although the S.O. hated that it took 2:35. He likes to time national anthem performances.
  14. March 2 ought to work for the hawing household, as long as Mother Nature can hold off the snow/ice. [Plus it would leave open the possibility of a "take two" on March 9, should the 2nd be a bad weather day.] How about 6:00 or 7:00 for a start time? I'm just throwing ideas out there, so someone with better planning genes can feel free to speak up. If you're OK with March 2 at the Miller Park Friday's, reply in this thread with at least kind of a head count, so we have an idea of how many/who to watch for. Thanks!
  15. The moderate to heavy snow forecast for Madison this morning seems to be on target. The building next door to my library is difficult but not impossible to see. Does anyone else in Wisconsin feel like Mother Nature's punching bag lately?
  16. thablingster scored a T-Plush bobble from the rummage sale inventory, proving "them" wrong in at least one case.
  17. This was marketed as a Brewers package and someone couldn't put it together enough to remember that Randy Wolf has been a Brewer and Randy Wells has not? Sheesh. Anyway, Sea Bass Part Deux. I'm game for that.
  18. Longtime bf.netters might recall that I am one of those rare souls who doesn't imbibe and (for various personal reasons) tends not to make alcohol-based jokes. However, this weather forecast is remarkable and it calls for an exception: http://i.imgur.com/xKEZaYa.jpg Really? I'm not afraid of the four seasons, but I do not need to see them all (OK, maybe 3 of the 4) in the space of 2-3 days.
  19. So, so much of what I read about education these days (both K-12 and higher) makes me frankly glad I went to school when I did.
  20. I think that's because (in the Brewers' mindset) you already have tickets to Opening Day. My memory is that's what our ticket rep told us last year when we weren't offered additional OD tickets. Ask your rep if you want clarification. If nothing else, s/he might be willing to put you on a wait list in case some open up very near to April 1. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
  21. There is a buzz in the Kohl Center crowd every time Sam checks into a game. If I were his age, I'd have such a crush on him. As it is, he's really fun to watch play.
  22. I suppose an off-season day wouldn't be crazy there.
  23. I'm open to the Miller Park Friday's. Despite having visited MP hundreds of times, I've never eaten there. Some pros: Everyone can find it (as long as you can find Miller Park), parking shouldn't be a problem, we can gaze longingly out the windows at the field. Possible cons: Their private room is $100 on non-game Saturday nights, plus a food/beverage minimum. If we drew 60 participants (the room's maximum) this wouldn't be totally crazy, but the average attendance at a winter meeting is more like 10-15. I don't know the layout of Friday's, so I don't know how readily they could accommodate like 4-5 tables worth of us, or how precise a head count we'd need to have. But we could ask.
  24. I don't know when the second opinion was made, but Corey had the surgery Friday morning. So I guess the second opinion agreed with the first. Thus begins the ca. four-month recovery clock. Boom.
