  1. I'd be surprised if Smoltz would sign on for that. He has always wanted to be a SP, even when he was dominating as a closer. I was secretly hoping we were talking to him, but alas. I don't know that he would be a good signing for us, but I would have been excited all the same. Purely biased excitement.
  2. Wow, great to see that had a happy ending! Very cool.
  3. I can't even keep up with TH on these rumors. It's almost annoying that every rumor is being thrown onto the JS blog, just to let us know there's rumors. So, now TH sounds like he's all in on the latest rumor from Newsday, but in the posting just previous to that, he called out a rumor that was earlier attributed to Newsday, as flatly wrong. How does the late breaking one have more credibility then, when it flies in the face of pretty much every rumor so far?
  4. I use Campaign Monitor for a number of clients. I have briefly used other systems that various clients used, and I continue to like Campaign Monitor. Granted however, it is aimed moreso at someone like myself, providing these services, than it is anyone. What I mean by this, is you still need to know some HTML to really send out HTML emails. If you want to send out text only emails, then you could do that yourself. The site easily handles people subscribing to your list, and unsubscribing, and they will do that part for free. You only pay when you actually send an email. This is really nice for the clients I have that don't send regular emails. They also have another site, MailBuild that is meant for someone to create HTML templates for you, and then you run it from there. I don't have any experience with that site though. They also have a number of free templates you can use, that are already coded for you. Free Templates
  5. Glad to know you both enjoyed it Invader!
  6. It gave me a little bit of goosebumps to see Jenks contribute. And he hopped right over that dugout wall and was the first one out of there. Good for him.
  7. I noticed that myself and was pretty excited. My wife even thought it was pretty cool that they would use the Brewers in that commercial. I wondered if it was local too, and checked it online. As BrewerTerp said, it's national. Here's the ad for anyone who didn't catch it.
  8. Much as I like Parra's future with the club, I don't think you can consider him to be a Yo caliber of pitcher. So far he appears to be shaping up to be a fantastic #3, or an okay #2. If we're to fill up with 3 Yo type pitchers, I would have to consider Parra the #3 on that list. It's going to be just as expensive, in terms of what we have to give up, to get another Yo type to slot into #2 from another team in trade, IMO.
  9. Have fun at the Lazy Cloud! If you're killing time in Lake Geneva, don't go see the psychic in town. FYI. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. I moved to the Milwaukee area in 1996, and into the suburbs around 2001. I see TPing all over the place since then, but I've never understood it. While someone would do an occasional TPing when I was in high school, it is nothing like on the level it is here. What's the scoop with this "tradition"? I've guessed that it was seniors TPing freshman houses or other seniors or something? Or is this just a random stunt done at homecoming?
  11. I agree that I just don't see CC saying yes to the Yankees. He's struck me as a rare breed of individual that values more than the best contract that is offered to him, and I just don't seem him accepting the whole Yankee fanfare and over pressure. I think he'll value more than just the contract. Now, that doesn't mean we still get him, as I think staying here means his intangibles are just as big in his eyes as the money is, and that's an even more rare breed. I had read somewhere a bit ago that Glavine and Smoltz were both highly disappointed in how their year turned out in Atlanta, and they felt bad for the organization and fans as well. Supposedly, assuming they were healthy to do so, they were interested in coming back on an incentives based contract for 1 final hurrah together. I have an infinite amount of respect for people who do something like that, who value who they're working for, what they're working for, more just the dollar. I've long respected both of them and that would cement it for me. There are players who are more than just players, and I can see CC being that type of guy as well, and thus, I just cannot picture him as a Yankee.
  12. Two guys a couple rows in front of me were doing that tristarscoop. That was annoying, because it served no point and blocked everything. I didn't have any issue if they were waving it around, but just standing there holding it up like that wasn't exactly cheering either.
  13. Our situation was a bit unique because I really think the fans in the back were more peeved at one guy in the last row of "standers" who really was a rude obnoxious jerk most of the game (and I told him so in not so pleasant terms myself), and when things came to a head, he sort of became an undeserved martyr, and without him in that section, the problem probably doesn't get nearly as bad. However, that said, literally the first inning people were telling others in our section to sit down, and there were a good 6 rows of us who felt like standing and cheering. So the issue didn't revolve around the one guys exclusively. When it really came to a head late in the game, the usher picked a horribly bad moment to get involved. We were standing for a big moment, and the usher came and started s-c-r-e-a-m-i-n-g at us that we had to sit down because other people paid money to see the game too. This wasn't a couple of people standing, more like 50 or more. It created quite the drama after that, with fans yelling at each other, cops leering at everyone, the usher getting into a screaming match with the aforementioned martyr, and him getting the crowd riled up, people standing up just to protest the usher and the police. An inning later, one of the people complaining about people standing went and sat in the front of the first row of "standers" and would stand whenever they sat and that caused quite a commotion too. Good times, good times.
  14. I obviously can't compare Saturday to any day in Philly, but there's no way you can't say it was loud. I will say, our section had quite a war on Saturday on people standing up to much. The very first inning people were telling people to sit down. It got pretty ugly eventually, with ushers, cops, and fans. So I can see where Philly may have been louder if their fans weren't so concerned about being able to sit the whole game.
  15. I'm on the fence about this show. I had hopes for it, and I'll give it a bit longer. I'm glad last week's episode finally didn't circle around Massive Dynamic being behind everything. However, so far every episode has had the father's past experiments being involved somehow with current events. I'm fine with those two things being overarching, but every single episode takes the fun out of it. Had the X-Files spent every episode on the conspiracy, it would have gotten old quick. We'll see what tonight's episode does.
  16. My wife and I typically aim to go to a bed and breakfast for our anniversary every year. We have stayed at the Lazy Cloud near Lake Geneva before, and would go back there any time. It is one of the best we've been too. http://www.lazycloud.com/ Their in room picnic basket dinners are worth it.
  17. I stuck around until the Event Services people started telling us they had received word that the players decided not to come out. I was fine with it, I can understand it, and I certainly didn't feel it was owed to us. Yes it would have been nice for a chance for both sides to sort of say thanks, but in my mind, they did a heck of a job celebrating the Wild Card with the fans, far more than I would imagine most other teams do. This is a club/organization that has treated the fans very well, and it's often taken advantage of I think. There were several people standing around me who I thought weren't great fans, and just wanted autographs or whatever. They were saying a lot of really rude things about the players and the fans and such, and there was a lot of, "hurry up and get out here and sign my ball already" comments.
  18. I think most of our solid fanbase knew we would be lucky to get deep into the playoffs, thus the expectations heading into the playoffs were much different. Being out of the playoffs for us, is probably much easier to swallow than for Cub fans. We can look back and be grateful for having been there, while it will probably sting for some time for the Cubs' base to think back to this year. An all-out biting article on the Cubs' postseason; "It's Gonna Happen." That was the unofficial slogan of the Cubs this year. And it did. Another failed October. Another sweep. Another long, cold winter of what-ifs.
  19. From the "Hey, a man can dream" files; Yes, we know the comments from his agent previously, but now it is officially time we start seeing how things shake out. After the game yesterday, I already heard people talking rumors about CC already being signed (4 years, $130 million) before I was even out of the park. While I don't believe that, it's obvious that the fanbase holds out some hope that we can actually get CC back. When we got him, I would have told you it was a pipe dream. While it may still be, there is a part of my that now holds out hope, after I see comments like this; And this one; Braun's comment legitimizes that hope I think, otherwise, it's just a good guy, saying good things. As has been pointed out before, Lee "wanted" to play, CoCo "wanted" to play here, but money has its way of doing its thing. Who knows. The off season can't come fast enough now that we're out of it. If we don't sign him, I can hardly fault CC or the organization, but boy, it sure would be the most exciting move we could make. (mod note: added to Designated Threads List --1992)
  20. I have 1 upper deck ticket available for tomorrow suddenly. Unfortunately its all by itself, but for someone who is interested, its a way in. Hit me up on PM if you're interested.
  21. I'm with Patrick, I think they need a coaching overhaul. Yes there are pieces that could use some replacement/resolution, but I don't consider that an overhaul. The overhaul needs to be in coaching. The entire month of September, and so far these two playoff games, have shown that either a) the players are not that well prepared for the pitcher they are going to face (which, with all of the tracking the Brewers' staff does, I don't think is even possible) or b) they're not listening to the message. Are they not telling Corey to maybe go and take a pitch or two after there have been several walks in an inning, instead of hacking poorly at the first pitch and tapping into a ton of double plays this year, or is he not listening? Are they not telling the whole team that the entire league knows they'll chase a low and away pitch for strike 3 and to expect it instead of continually swinging at it, or are they not listening? Are they not telling Hall the reason he's out of the lineup is that he tries to pull everything over the left field wall, or is he not listening? Perhaps the guys are just that stubborn, but a change with the coaching staff probably still helps get those types of messages through regardless. I do think the offense has been embarrassingly bad at times this year, and this time for a very extended streak to finish out the season. There is a lot of talent there, but some of them are underperforming greatly this year. I think there's a lot of mental wear on the team this year. They have more than enough power hitters, they need to get some guys who can get on base consistently now to pair with those power guys.
  22. 126 is my normal season ticket location. Its a good spot, though the people standing up can get annoying sometimes. I'll be in 211 on Saturday and 408 if there's a Sunday.
  23. I turned on Gamecast just in time to see Hall with a swinging strike that was about a mile south of the strike zone. Has anyone told these guys that the whole league knows most of the team will chase that pitch and to, I don't know, maybe realize its coming with two strikes?
  24. I had a 20 pack, and I've had to show my parking pass for awhile now. I guess I can't say when it started exactly, but it has been for a bit now. I'd say they do it only on key games, but I know they were doing it Tuesday night, and there was only like 30,000 in the park that night. I come in off 94 West, on the Mitchell exit. When you turn left there at the stop sign, there has been a guy standing there with a sign "Show your pass". I flash it to him, and there's virtually no line to enter the park then, because they're not taking case drive ups. And I see them make people turn around or get back on the freeway. They used to do this last year when the preferred lot got to close to full, but even then they weren't great at it, and I'd end up having to park in some weird spot because they oversold if I came too late. Sunday I was in the lot almost 2 hours before game time, and they were doing it.
