Unless they skip someone this Thursday to keep Suppan going not really a big deal. Though Rock constantly calling Bush the #5 starter does want me to bang my head against the wall.
I think Macha was afraid of pulling Bush for Stetter and then having Pinella put in Reed forcing Stetter to pitch to Reed and Soriano before he got to Fukudome. And likely thought Bush could handle Hoffpauir better than DiFelice coming in cold (keeping in mind Bush' sonly real problem right then was an inability to keep his curve down).
But this isn't a normal job. Most players don't have permanent homes in the city they play for. And even then they're only there for 2 months in the summer with hectic travel all the time. They don't have to considered the idea of uprooting the family because the family isn't likely there much anyway and they're on the road more than truckers.
There are no better options. I'd be all for taking out Suppan if the Brewers had something the was better. But DiFelice isn't an option for some reason(s) and he's the only one who would appear to be an upgrade. Even come July and Suppan has an ERA above 6 its hard to say it still isn't a coin flip going forward. There needs to be something that says last year is his new level of performance or Green or Wright need to break out for this to be anything more than dealing with frustration of Suppan not pitching well.
