  1. Hardy was an offensive prospect. I don't know why you keep saying he wasn't. Fielder was a 5 win player in 2007.
  2. That's my greatest fear of Gwynn on the 25 man roster-that he'd actually be used. It happened the last time, and yes Macha isn't Yost but still... And projection systems of Lamb have to be sketchy since he hit fine in 2007. But he was so bad the Twins(not exactly a free spending organization) cut him with a full year left on his contract.
  3. Lamb has been really bad defensively for a while. Given that he fell of a cliff offensively last season, McGehee is the safer and better choice. Maybe it was bad year but the Brewers really can't afford the PAs to see if thats the case. Duffy vs Gwynn doesn't really make a difference, with Duffy having the slightly better chance of putting up a career year.
  4. I think the talent in the minors is there but I think people need to realize that having as many homegrown 4+ win players (Hardy, Braun, Fielder, Gallardo, and Hart if he rebounds and Parra if he improves) is an amazing thing. I don't see that coming up. Salome if he can stick at catcher would be one. Lawrie looks like another. Jeffress has potential but he's really far away right now.
  5. Keep in mind the Marlins didn't want fans to show up. The stadium revenue was still flowing in large part to the Huzingas. They were better off with sparse crowds trying to force a stadium issue.
  6. At the time the $10m was targeted to replace McClung in the rotation. Looper has been signed and no one else is out there anyway.
  7. Actually he could easily fit. There is a strong argument for going all out over the next 2 seasons and then after 2010(assuming no World Series win that year) let Hardy walk, trade Fielder, Hart, and Weeks and take a step back in 2011 for one year.
  8. The other thing people need to realize is Tony Gwynn is older than they think he is. Nelson is actually more than 2 months younger than Gwynn (Nelson birthday is 12/23, his birthdays must have sucked as a kid) I don't care if its Gwynn or Duffy, both pretty much stink as anything but an emergency replacement, The only difference is one's father won't start leaking to ESPN how the team isn't giving his son a chance. Neither should be on the team over Nelson.
  9. Why would SD want Hardy? They won't compete the two years he's under contract and its hard to keep a FA after back to back 90 loss seasons.
  10. Miranda isn't replacing Escobar. Miranda is replacing Counsell in two years at best.
  11. Peavy was "available" in the sense that there were certain teams he would go to and other teams he would consider going to if his option for 2013 was picked up. I think the Brewers later found themselves in that 2nd category. If Peavy moves them into the 1st then something might happen.
  12. Lofton was not a backup at 36.
  13. Yeah, a 3rd 3B isn't needed.
  14. Anyone can play in the World Cup if they qualify
  15. Do you have access to a QAM tuner through someone to see what your building gets? If you are really looking to reduce costs, you might want to just keep internet and pay for MLB.com streaming if thats what you really want. Given how bad FSN's reception usually is you aren't giving up that much.
  16. Swindle really is just a LOOGY while Stetter does seem to pitch like one his results say otherwise
  17. The fact that Jeter was playing short and hitting up in the order when he's by far the worst hitter in the line up (Jeter isn't a bad hitter, but if your choice was Rollins at short and Longoria at DH or Jeter at Short and Rollins at DH and you chose the 2nd maybe you are out of MLB for a reason)
  18. Actually many PC games don't have printed manuals.
  19. The only reason this surprised me is that Salome is still injured.
  20. Yes the market for a 26 year old CFer out of options who hit .275/.328/.331 in AAA last year is so huge Tom!
  21. I doubt that. Cain will likely bat 7th or 8th for a year.
  22. Leaving offense a side I count zero. Briggs at this point is so wedded to him being right that things like Duffy is only a small dropoff come out. Duffy projects to put up a line that would be what Cameron could collapse to, and that ignores defense. There were 2 NL CFers more valuable than Cameron last year, Beltran and Victorino.
  23. Getting a SS/2B guy who you expect just to be a utility player in 2-3 years does make sense. Miranda doesn't look to be much above that level. So yeah Duffy or Gwynn or even Nelson to a lesser degree for Miranda makes some sense.
  24. There isn't a matchup that exists that makes Kerndall the best option to lead off. Assuming Kendall is facing those "tough" righties, Kendall vs RHP in 2008: .245/.324/.316 Kendall vs RHP in 2007: .259/.315/.326 Add into that a lack of speed and it makes no sense.
