  1. Preston Wilson isn't a decent option to bat. I still can't believe the Cards haven't had a decent corner OFer for two years in a row now. The corner OFers today are Wilson and Taguchi.
  2. Who said Hall wanted it? And if so stick him at 3B fulltime and let Gross play CF fulltime to see if he can hit LH pitching at a Jenkins type level.
  3. The problem the Brewers created by moving Hall is that they now have a hole at 3B. If Hall stayed at 3B or split time at center for a year, Braun's bat wouldn't be an issue right now since Braun vs Gross/Graffy platoon isn't the same as Braun vs Graffy/Counsell platoon. This meant a full year to see where Braun can play.
  4. Not sure WPA works as a rate stat since its so state dependent.
  5. Pretty sure Wise is only arby eligible (I think its his final year and BF has him with 2 though)
  6. Also rules for offering free agents arbitration.
  7. And in no way would the Royals want Counsell's contract.
  8. The Brewers are not going to pay Walker what he's owed if waived. He could be signed as a FA after that, but I wouldn't count on it.
  9. Now Bill can't figure that new fangled WHIP
  10. Bill talking out of his rear again (the Brewers could lose Closser if he doesn't make the team!) shows he's ready for opening day!
  11. Russ you're going to run into a huge selection bias problem. Very few pitchers who have bead strike out rates have enough pure stuff to last long in the major leagues. Those that do are going to be knuckleball type pitchers which means they by definition are outliers.
  12. Following what Belichick told you to do?
  13. But Davis had a great 2004. And his K rate went up from his overall career in 2004. In 2003 his K/9 was 5.10. In 2004 it was 7.21. A huge jump. and it made him a much better pitcher. So to say that the increased K rate in 2005 compared to 2004 made him worse off means ignoring his entire previous career. And he pitched more innings in 2005 than he did in 2004 so the idea that he didn't go any further in games is wrong. And Davis has the stuff to get guys to swing and miss when he's on. He may have a injury or he may have lost a little velocity which can make a huge difference when you just touch 90 or he had a bad year. All that doesn't mean that having him pitch to contact will make him better.
  14. This thing "seems" to be in your head. Davis's K rate went up until last year as did his innings pitched. Its his decrease in K's with his increased walk rate that did him in in 2006.
  15. Sheets had 5 walks in 13 spring innings versus 11 in 106 innings last year. Either he's a different pitcher or he has been ignoring his curve and working on his change up.
  16. Miller's salary: $2.25 Million Counsell's Salary: $2.8 million Miller's salary isn't a problem for a back up catcher.
  17. Darrin Erstad for 500 ABs with Pods getting another 500 ABs. Are the Sox and Cubs having a contest to see who can have the worst OBP?
  18. Anyone with a subscription wish to impart any knowledge of what they say?
  19. Let's be fair to Braun. He only played part games a lot of the time. He really could have upped the error total with some more playing time.
  20. Counsell and Graffy could be starters in a pinch and be about average. Clark wouldn't be. And he's paid more. Clark is about a $1.5-2 million player getting paid $3.8 million.
  21. Actually every scout and scouting report that isn't affiliated with the Brewers that I saw say he should be moved to the OF. The point isn't whether he definitely should be, but rather that his defense has been questioned by basically everyone and this isn't a sudden spring thing.
  22. The problem is that Branyan makes $2 million or so and if they have to eat any of Clark's salary, you're talking about $4 million for a 3B for about 2 months. Not sure the Brewers will do that.
  23. Bill just said backup catcher is the hardest position to find. Edit:Premonition or is my connection just so slow that you said that when Rivera was already thrown out?
  24. Thats it! Braun should just throw sidearm!
  25. More likely they would just wait until Nix is cut, pick him up for a month and then dump him.
