  1. Mears had one more year before FA and was 27 versus a 31 year old Megill.
  2. Can we stop with this "woe is me" crap? Small markets do not get overlooked in MVP and Cy Young voting.
  3. Civale isn't going to turn into SS/3b unless he does that by freeing money because the Brewers are at their salary limit. The SP depth that will add someone comes in the form of Crow or Wichrowski.
  4. Fangraphs has data with wRC+ for that team. Players with greater than 300 PAs: Name Team G PA HR R RBI SB wRC+ Richie Sexson MIL 157 652 29 86 102 0 125.9809358 José Hernández MIL 152 582 24 72 73 3 118.6010597 Matt Stairs MIL 107 315 16 41 41 2 115.8978079 Jeffrey Hammonds MIL 128 510 9 47 41 4 93.04584964 Eric Young Sr. MIL 138 553 3 57 28 31 88.86027045 Alex Sanchez MIL 112 435 1 55 33 37 87.79320754 Ronnie Belliard MIL 104 317 3 30 26 2 41.843211 So when compared to current qualified players: Name Team G PA HR R RBI SB wRC+ Rhys Hoskins MIL 63 243 9 21 36 2 120.7287315 Sal Frelick MIL 64 253 4 25 21 12 112.2326385 Christian Yelich MIL 64 272 13 34 41 10 106.4198555 Brice Turang MIL 64 275 4 43 25 15 101.6128029 William Contreras MIL 62 264 5 35 27 5 99.42435652 Jackson Chourio MIL 66 296 10 39 37 13 95.59571267 Joey Ortiz MIL 65 226 2 23 9 6 44.81681666 The two teams are similar. Belliard was limited to 317 PAs for the season. Ortiz is on pace to smash that.
  5. The Brewers did not want Hoskins for $34 million. They were hoping for $16 million for one year of 2-3 wins and then Hoskins leaves for a better deal elsewhere.
  6. The point is Mullins would be a guy who is a free agent at the end of the year where the receiving team might be interested in Mitchell to see if there is anything there. If you like change Mullins to Moncada and Mitchell might be part of the return the Angels receive. Mitchell having only gotten 2/3rds of a season of plate appears in 3 and 1/3 years just makes it really difficult to trade him even if he comes back for a few months this year.
  7. The issue is that you have to turn back time to 2021 for the last time Rodgers was good. You can come up with reasons why he wasn't good in following years (the Packer receiver core wasn't great in 2022, 2023 was a lost year, 2024 was overcoming injury and Jets stuff). But a 41 year old who hasn't been good the last 3 seasons with other "challenges" lets say; is maybe not a guy you want to count on.
  8. There is no "cash out" on Mitchell. He right now is on a path to be non-tendered in 2027 when he would likely cost $3-5 million in arbitration for a reserve/always injured player. He's also not that young, turning 27 this year so it's not like he has huge growth potential. Right now he would be a guy who if healthy would be interesting as a secondary piece to a team that can give him playing time in the hope maybe there is something there but he isn't young enough to be a building block nor is he reliable enough for a team to count on him for an immediate push. Say if Baltimore gives up on the season and the Brewers trade for Mullins, then Mitchell could be a second piece in that deal.
  9. See Suarez in only 10th in ISO. The fact that numbers 1-9 are not going to be available for trade is immaterial.
  10. "Quality" is covering a lot of holes. Civale and Quintana are #5 starters. Priester is replacement level. I think the assumption is Ashby is an emergency starter only. Hall is unknown. Myers is not doing well in AAA. Cortes is unlikely going to be ready until August (a healthy Cortes would have been great this season, but a healthy Cortes seems to be an every other year thing). Gasser doesn't seem that close to returning. The Brewers seem to see Rodriguez as a 8th starter that can be moved up and down as needed. I don't know what will happen to him once he is out of options.
  11. He had a wRC+ of 71 in September after a 76 in August. That is not good.
  12. Turang collapsed in July and never recovered last year.
  13. $2 million in a value is a FV 40 player. Or The Brewers could try to force the other team to take Hoskins' buyout and get a guy. Or both buyout payments and hope there is a bidding war and ateam is willing to do so. Given every team could have had Quintana for a cheap I doubt there will be much of a market for an injured version. Cortes if healthy would be an interesting trade candidate because when healthy he has been very good. Its that healthy part that is an issue. Right now given the timeline my guess is the Brewers waive him come August after he makes a few starts and hope to get someone to pick up his contract.
  14. He had a good game against Pittsburgh even taking into account that Pittsburgh has the a better offense than only Colorado. But Priester was bad against Baltimore though not technically a start and while he did not give up many runs he wasn't good against Houston or Cleveland either.
  15. Yes but that day he was arguing with you. Today he is arguing with someone else so he needs to say something different to start an argument.
  16. Is the pitching not a problem? The Brewers are 23rd in FIP and 22nd in ERA. Henderson and Peralta are fine as starters, everyone else starting right now is below average at best. Half the bullpen is solid (Mears, Uribe, Megill, Anderson, Koenig and maybe Alexander) and the other half is on fire.
  17. Civale projects as a 5th starter. Maybe he regains his 2023 form and surprises people, but most systems don't think that. So you can get salary relief and not much else.
  18. Gute is just so bad with the personnel part of the job. "Hey we'll sign a workmanlike guard to a large contract and move our pro-bowl guard to center without discussing it with him!" https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45146047/sources-elgton-jenkins-skipping-packers-workouts-contract
  19. Not sure I would count on EMJ to produce much of anything. The AAA team is pretty barren. Zamora could fill in as a utility in a pinch and we have some decent #3 catchers.
  20. Made is hitting well enough to get to AA at some point this year but more than that is very risky. Players can get brought up too early and hinder their career. Wilken likely should be on the move to AAA now given his age and his current offense. He could be in Milwaukee this year given the lack of alternatives. Pratt isn't hitting well enough in AA to earn a midseason move. It might still happen to open a spot for Made, but a wRC+ of 109 in AA isn't a rush to the majors number.
  21. More likely Pratt is part of the package sent for Mayer (which is still not happening)
  22. Hoskins is probably worth his salary so you are not getting much back but you don't have to include anything if you want to move him. Now it would be better for the Brewers if they paid his salary and got talent back but my guess is the owners would prefer a bonus payout instead.
