  1. No, no, a thousand times no. It works both ways and it probably depends on if you're more offensive or pitching/defense oriented. Who would you rather be coming up for the opponent with guys on, a pitcher or a regular position player. It adds to my excitement with Yo that he's a good hitting pitcher which gives the Brewers an advantage in the games he pitches. It would hurt the Brewers relative to big market clubs because it's another regular spot to fill out of the available payroll level. Conformity is a bad reason to do anything in life.
  2. "Nick did a nice job for us in a couple of areas, but we're not going to comment on it too much," Melvin said. Yea, why disclose rationale on a questionable decision? If there is something in particular Nick didn't do well, you don't talk about it publicly. He's looking for another job. It does sound more like there's not a real reason so there's nothing to comment on though.
  3. Not sure why it was brought up in this thread and not that it's any way to judge defense, but people are posting concern about 13 errors for a ss?
  4. Ray Combs who did a later version of Family Feud in the late 80s/early 90s killed himself in 1996. I think this may contribute to the confusion concerning Dawson.
  5. I was watching a Cubs game 2 weeks or so ago and the ump didn't let Lou make a double switch because he hadn't gone to him first. Lou had to scramble and I forget who but I think a non-outfielder had to be inserted in the outfield. It appears he still hasn't learned how to do it right.
  6. Schroeder pointed out several times before the AB that no one was warming up for the Reds.
  7. So when they got young and struggled you gave up on them? Three years ago is the last time I watched a game. I haven't followed much for around 10. Are you suggesting I'm a fairweather fan? The first game I remember watching on TV was the '60 championship game though there may have been some before that. Not even sure if any were on TV before that. I was a big fan as a kid during the Lombardi years. I stuck it out during the Bengtson, Devine, Starr, Gregg, Infante regimes. Sometime at the end of the Holmgren years I just started getting sick of the Packer hype, the Packer blitz type news reports and shows, the deification of Favre, the excessive on field demonstrations and strutting after touchdowns or defensive plays, a bunch of players starting probably with Michael Irvin. I just lost interest in the NFL over a few years and don't find it entertaining anymore. I gave up on the NBA in a similiar way starting about the end of the Moncrief era. But baseball is forever.
  8. Haven't watched the Packers in 3 years. Sunday won't be any different.
  9. 63 ABs in low A, then right to AA the next year. The Southern League is a pitchers league, Prince didn't put up monster numbers like his AAA numbers either. The hitting tools part was the quick hands/strong wrists thing primarily and now he's had thumb, then wrist problems. 203 ABs is all he got in AAA, he can't help that. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smile.gif
  10. Yom Kippur is sundown 9/21 to sundown 9/22 this year. Even the least observant often observe Yom Kippur. So Ryan could miss the 9/21 game at Atlanta. Sunset in Atlanta on 9/22 is 7:35, exactly when the game is scheduled to start, though he probably wouldn't be able to stretch, take BP or throw before the game.
  11. The first episode of Happy Days had Earl Gillespie calling some Braves action on the car radio.
  12. Well said from one of the youngest posters here. As one of the, or maybe the oldest, Milwaukee baseball has been my number one sport over 50 years, except the 4 where it wasn't possible. There should be no litmus test here but even among the staff there are those for whom the Brewers are their 5th or 6th favorite sports team. Don't understand either why some are surprised that the diehards are still watching the games to the end rather than switching over to watch something else. Again the Brewers don't have to be number one for everyone here, but I'm getting tired of all the posts that things will be ok because football starts soon. That doesn't do anything for me and probably a good number here. Anyway, looking forward to sitting in the lower level for the first time ever Friday night and getting my stacking dolls Sunday as well as enjoying the game.
  13. Ned said on TMJ this morning they still don't know with the double blister situation.
  14. So this sets a precedent. It is OK to fire a manager in late August/early September if it's below .500...... No, it sets a precedent. It is OK to fire a manager in late August/early September if it's below .500 and out of contention and you fire the GM knowing the new GM will want his own manager.
  15. Centerfield, John Fogerty
  16. weeks dillon gross braun hall mench hart estrada vargas Personally I think they'll have a shortstop and only 3 outfielders with Gross sitting against the lefty. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif
  17. Just for fun too: Mark Fidrich, age 21, 250 innings Yes, all pitchers are different. Would be nice to know in advance which ones will have problems wouldn't it? Since we can't, I'm with the cautious, plan for the long term side, not the riverboat gambler side.
  18. Can you buy for just some games or is it all or nothing? By when do you have to respond? At some point they need to determine how many will be available to non-season ticket holders and put them on sale.
  19. People always raise this sort of comparison when the other team is hot and the Brewers are not. Arizona is 19-5 since the first Cubs game after the Brewers took 3 out of 4 from them. Webb not allowing a run in 33 innings with 2 complete game shutouts hasn't hurt. The Cubs were hot and some thought they'd run away with things, now the Cards are hot and some think the same. They may but probably not. The Dbacks will cool off considerably. Even the best teams have all had extended cool or even cold streaks and the mediocre teams have all had extended hot and cold streaks. Ask again at the end of the season and we'll see where everyone is.
  20. apparently companies don't hire people who are less than a semester away from a degree who does possess the credentials that they are seeking at this point. I got the credentials, but apparently they need to see the piece of paper that says I graduated. Are you working to finish up the degree? Those extra few credits aren't going to make you smarter or a better employee but they will show you followed up to the logical conclusion of getting the degree. Employers may be wondering why you haven't finished up and interpreting it as someone who doesn't follow through on things. If there's competition for these positions they're going to go with the 'safer' bet, someone who saw it through, however meaningless it seems to you.
  21. According to the Brewers web site Dalton was hired November 20, 1977 so it doesn't seem like he sent Gorman to the Rangers. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/mil/history/timeline2.jsp
  22. Batting practice times and gate opening times are both in the MP A-Z guide: http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/mil/ballpark/ballpark_guide.jsp Basically you can see about 1/2 the Brewers BP only on Saturdays and Sundays, June-August.
  23. If you have all your PAs being BBs etc. and the streak doesn't end, I can't imagine the streak ends if you don't have any PAs at all.
  24. 10.23 Guidelines For Cumulative Performance Records (a) CONSECUTIVE HITTING STREAKS. A consecutive hitting streak shall not be terminated if a batter's plate appearance results in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or obstruction or a sacrifice bunt. A sacrifice fly shall terminate the streak. (b) CONSECUTIVE-GAME HITTING STREAKS. A consecutive-game hitting streak shall not be terminated if all of a batter's plate appearances (one or more) in a game result in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or obstruction or a sacrifice bunt. The streak shall terminate if the player has a sacrifice fly and no hit. A player's individual consecutive-game hitting streak shall be determined by the consecutive games in which such player appears and is not determined by his club's games. c) CONSECUTIVE-GAME PLAYING STREAK. A consecutive-game playing streak shall be extended if a player plays one half-inning on defense or if the player completes a time at bat by reaching base or being put out. A pinch-running appearance only shall not extend the streak. If a player is ejected from a game by an umpire before such player can comply with the requirements of this Rule 10.23©, such player's streak shall continue. (d) SUSPENDED GAMES. For the purpose of this Rule 10.23, all performances in the completion of a suspended game shall be considered as occurring on the original date of the game.
