  1. I'm not getting the sense that there is a trade on the horizon that is that spark to turn things around. I still think it's worth fighting for this season for awhile. Options are limited, but you need to bring up Miz. He has the potential to bring that buzz that suddenly brings back that fighting quality to the team. You probably need to worry about some load management moves later in the season, but I think that is pretty solvable if you get guys playing good the next couple of months. That gives you a little bit of time then you maybe have 2 other moves I can see that might get you something. Bringing up Wilken later in the season, and I think you also have the option to think about trading Hoskins and bringing up EMJ. At the moment I wouldn't but Hoskins does have the possibility of bringing back something useful and EMJ could fill the offense potentially while being a defensive upgrade. Without major changes I would not invest any significant prospect capital though.
  2. Except that if you start running the tape backwards Ortiz looked like a solid option until late last year and until the injuries to Wilken he was on pace to be filling that role by this year. So a reasonable looking plan unraveled only in the last season or so.
  3. Promote him already and get those good innings before arm falls off.
  4. Wilken is unlikely as well, but without a solid argument otherwise I'm definitely in the move him to AAA and give him the chance to show that he should be an option down the stretch.
  5. It is impressive how bad all of the 3rd base options seem to have turned out not just on the team but the offseason alternatives. Honestly if not for the OF injuries at this point Sal at 3rd would have to be the best choice I think.
  6. I wonder if Devin's agent cries himself to sleep at night thinking about all of the money he's lost. It's only May so there's still time but at the moment he probably would have cost himself less money getting injured.
  7. Tyler Black is sad at the moment he can't work with this zone. I'm convinced part of his struggles last year was getting the rookie expanded zone treatment early on and it got him out of his game plan to far.
  8. I hear Arnold is offering the offense bonuses tonight if they can trash Smith's ERA.
  9. I remember when we used to draft pitchers and whatever pitches they had when we drafted them was all they would ever be able to throw. This is so much more fun
  10. Since it's not a game thread unless we complain about a manager decision: Should made a roster move and brought Bill Hall in to pitch the 9th.
  11. I was looking at the box score, and we only have 9 RBIs. Scoring 5 runs that aren't RBIs also has to be on the rare list.
  12. The As turning Brice into Rickey Henderson...
  13. I was on the fence about Frelick going but a weak pop-up from Ortiz erases any doubts that running wild was the right approach.
  14. I hear the plan is that they are just going to have Montero wear a Randy Johnson mask.
  15. Is some possible explanation that being as tall as he is delayed him a bit both in coordinating the swing, and refining control of the bigger strike zone? It is certainly prudent to get some more time in AAA and see how he adjusts to their adjustments.
  16. The Cubs first month schedule just looks rough. A ton of the good West Coast teams and a lot of travel.
  17. Nice AB by Hoskins despite swinging at some junk.
  18. Chourio announces his MVP campaign with 4 consecutive HRs today, and immediately induces grief in all the big markets that we already signed him to that extension so they have to wait to trade for him.
  19. I can't speak for other states, but the last time I had to call WI It wasn't terribly difficult to get a hold of a person, I just put down to get a callback. Possibly similar issue my address got autocorrected in their system.
  20. Just in general catchers don't age well. Even for HOF level catchers it is more that they were great in their peak years and can still produce enough to be productive in the line-up. Not someone I want to sign long term.
  21. Supply chain disruptions were only transitory as well... But to say that raising the cost on cheaper products (aka a tariff) doesn't having any inflationary pressure undercuts any logic to trade and specialization being worthwhile. Of course the economy can adapt over time to new rules that doesn't mean it will be as efficient as before, so Powell's statement is ridiculous.
  22. I'm basically waiting for retirement to do full on from scratch campaigns. I have found the quality of published campaigns and adventures has gotten really high and it has hit the sweet spot for me to be able to play and GM a lot without needing hours and hours of time outside the game.
  23. Seems a shame not to mention Wisconsin native Steve Buchanan's Win. https://hawkeyesports.com/sports/wrestling/roster/player/stephen-buchanan Lack of good coverage really torpedoed my ability to keep up with the shifts in wrestling in the last 25 years.
