    I would tend to agree with Jopal here. At this point in the season a 6th rotation member saves maybe 1 start for the other pitchers and that seems rather insignificant in workload in isolation. Chafin getting another week to see if he can not blow-up a game before you make a decision on adding Gasser to the pen, gives you options there, and certainly with basically just a month of the season if someone went down or Houser really kept struggling into September you could get Gasser out of the pen and back into starting with minimal ramp-up time.

    DHing Yelich and Contreras for a bit of a breather is 2 games a week, leaving 4 to 5 for a primary DH. That's pretty much full time. No one else in the line-up is hitting well enough to justify needing DH ABs, just rest them. You'd also have that DH person available to pinch hit in those 2 games they aren't starting. If he keeps hitting this is what Rowdy will end up doing so it's not a justification for Hiura.

    Those numbers are bad enough it makes me strongly question if the position adjustment in those WAR calculations is too high. Really as I reflect on it the number of bigtime slugging first basemen has also seemed way down post steroid-ERA as well.

    Well with a slight lead in the season series already the Brewers only need to split the remaining 6 to have the tie breaker over the Cubs. So even just winning the series at the end of the month puts the Cubs into needing to sweep us on the road to end the season to have that advantage.

    They have seemed to have played oddly bad against a number of really bad teams, but really well against the middle tier teams. I think the Braves are the only really good team to have dominated them. The Rays as well, but its an odd pattern so far.

    I'm not saying, I'm completely turned off yet but if I was 30 years younger would I get as wrapped up in college athletics? I don't think so. I think the revenue chasing part is undercutting the broad appeal. D1 used to seemingly mean just about anybody anywhere in the country had a natural in state option and it formed that culture piece growing up.

    In the abstract I think you have to give him at least another week. The specifics really come down to how the other options are performing. I hope the memory of Schoop makes it easier to move on if need be, sometimes a move just doesn't work and as you correctly identified we don't have a lot invested in keeping him around if there are other players looking like they can hit more.

    Just for comparison, statistically a noticeable portion of the cost benefits to EVs are way fewer parts, and lower expected repairs. For the actual owners out there how has that looked/ felt in the real world?

    Hadn't really been paying attention, but our leadoff hitter is leading the team in RBI's by a fair margin.

    I down grade them for not making these types of moves earlier (though that may not have been completely in their control). I also think it is fair to limit grade inflation and to get an A either you need to get stud MLB players or be selling and get stud minor leaguers. Low cost of acquisition definitely raises the grade, Having a high trade volume compared to everyone else is also a positive as I think the team is definitely getting something worthwhile in each deal. Creative in basically managing the entire roster and not just worrying about the current MLB team is also a noteworthy positive. I think collectively we have about as much minor league talent as we did before the trades started, and more useful pieces to us at the major league level. So overall I'd call it a B

    Given the large amount of positional flexibility elsewhere on the roster currently and in the near future, I think the positional adjustments built into WAR stats for DHing are artificially suppressing his value to us. Or flipped around another way we are often playing very mediocre bats at that position where their defensive value doesn't net us any benefit. Honestly given the likely lowered asking price because of his limitations and injury history he is probably more attractive to us. With Black and Chourio looking like they will be pushing for call-ups next season that future injury risk is also a bit less daunting.

    I wonder if they were trying to at least test a more aggressive promotion path for Misiorowski to increase and evaluate options to replace Burnes and Woodruff?

    There have obviously been some attempts before this to make some incremental improvements, but that stretch included a lot of 1 run losses, and our 1st basemen have hit so bad over the last month it certainly seems like there would have been a good chance that the boost from average 1st base production would have found another win in there somewhere, and that would be pretty significant in the standings at the moment.

    I think the practical overlap salary wise of Chourio and Yelich isn't that big of a hurdle in isolation. Even if he is called up early next year his FA equivalent years aren't until we can buy Yelich out. With the way these are typically structured you'd have 1 or maybe 2 years where they both might be making 10 million plus. If you get aggressive and waive money at him early you might be able to even front load him with bigger pay days in the first couple of years and be able to get a solid deal that isn't that high 5 and 6 years out.

    Miller seems more likely to go the super sub route, but I don't see why he's stick in place of Turang. over the last 28 days Turang has a .642 OPS compared to Miller's .542. Miller's OPS for the season is only .683, so with the defensive advantage I think Turang sticks as the regular second basemen as you continue to see if these adjustments he's made are for real and that offense continues to rise.

    Granted it wasn't that long ago the Pirates were still in it, but the only disappointment is that they didn't make this type of move a few weeks back. A number of close losses in that span that slightly better offense could have made a difference in there somewhere.

    I don't necessarily mind the price of a lower level prospect, though they are the hardest to judge value on. I hope Carlos continues to be at least respectable.
