  1. Title insurance well, let's just say that I have mixed feelings. I did actually end up using mine, and it worked great and I avoided what I'm sure would have been a few thousand dollars in legal fees. The obnoxious part was that the title search did not find the mistake until the second time we had refinanced. The person we purchased the house from had bought it in foreclosure, and that foreclosure hadn't been processed correctly. So it took 4 times total and almost 15 years for the title search to finally notice the error. So very mixed feelings about the value of that fee...
  2. I believe the optimal solution given the thread is to go back in time and trade Huira for a wide receiver.
  3. I'm very surprised he cleared waivers. It's not like he's a blackhole offensively. There are players who've shown less that still get playing time
  4. It's pretty much guaranteed that Yeager has the right stuff...
  5. Well the Brewers and Twins getting the short end of the stick also tracks with the, 'we'll keep broadcasting for those teams even though we are bankrupt because it is profitable'. What I would be very curious to know is the historical viewership numbers. I have a suspicion that both the Brewers and Twins fan bases to stay more likely to watch on TV anyway in down years compared to some of these other cities. So I can see a modest difference for a potentially larger market size but Brock your absolutely correct at some point if you aren't capitalizing on that market it don't matter for selling ads.
  6. That is potentially frustrating for Weimer, and makes me think the rule needs to be adjusted. No one player is particularly likely to win or finish high in ROY voting, but it's not like any respectable player evaluator could act like Weimer came out of nowhere if he put together an awesome campaign. Too many prior tools and prior production for that.
  7. Even with the expanded playoffs baseball is tough to win every year, but yeah not getting more filling out the roster around Trout is impressively bad. He did put up WAR numbers in that crazy Bonds territory whose teams defined the Stars and scrubs approach to building a roster. Especially since they are willing to spend a fair amount of money getting useful vets isn't that hard.
  8. I didn't measure his muscle mass, but my son put on enough size his first time really lifting in a college trimester that I could imagine those numbers as being close enough.
  9. If they can take the hit now I'm all for taking the cap hit now and complete a solid trade.
  10. Somewhere Tony Gwynn senior is wishing teams would have tried to shift him.
  11. With young pitchers keeping depth is important because there will be DL stints, so Uribe would have to look like Hader all the way through Spring in my mind to make the OD roster. But he becomes a highly likely injury call-up.
  12. I do find myself wondering if part of the Brewers decision to let Suter go, was that once everyone was on the clock his rapid pitching wouldn't be disruptive to hitters as much anymore.
  13. I also think it is worth appreciating the qualitative impacts of a player. Whether it is Blyleven pitching forever, or Eddie Murray, or Brock Longevity stats are a big part of baseball's story as well. Players who play 2 decades are kind of important. Heck now that the LOOGY is basically extinct I wouldn't even mind enshrining Jesse Orrosco in the HOF because of his significance as part of the evolving game. In Brock's case he was still the premier base stealer before Rickey.
  14. That makes me think of Eric Davis, awesome looking package but enough nagging injuries adding up to a just good career instead of a great one.
  15. What pitcher on the staff doesn't want Weimer in RF, Mitchell in CF, and Frelick in LF?
  16. For the sake of discussion Weimer is a more athletic Corey Hart with way better plate discipline. The defense alone means he likely performs Hart by quite a bit. The overall contact is the key question mark, but the bat has done very well without being inflated by league or ballpark like we had in the past. I think historically I'd have rater Braun higher, Prince lower, Weeks probably higher (there was plenty of performance and the bat speed should have made him an all timer). I'll say Burnes but he benefits now from no longer suffering skepticism over Brewers being able to develop pitchers.
  17. I ask the following rhetorical question during the Brewerfan era. What years would Weimer have not been the top prospect in the system?
  18. I have no complaints if the Brewers hitting prospects all start producing like mid 90's Cleveland hitters. .900+ OPS for everyone!
  19. I just got around to watching that compilation video of Chourio's HRs. I believe every single one was belt high or above. He seemed to cover the plate reasonably well though it seemed like most were outer half of the plate. Anyone who watched more of his ABs notice any other patterns to his plate coverage? In the current environment being able to hit the high stuff for power is certainly an asset.
  20. I did like the article analysis suggesting that aside from platooning for handedness Voit might be a good match to Tellez against certain pitch profiles. Does Huira still have an option?
  21. The eggs price made sense to the extent that a major bird disease caused a lot of herd culling. It's also helpful to understand that chicken used to be a luxury meat, the current most common breed used to be quite rare because they routinely carried a cancer causing virus. The designer of most childhood vaccines Maurice Hilleman ended up also developing a vaccine against that bird virus, which dramatically altered the economics of chicken breeds. https://mag.uchicago.edu/science-medicine/man-who-developed-40-vaccines# Macro policy has some impacts, but we had a fragile supply system and we'll get better outcomes not focusing on the macro side but instead trying to solve lots of micro problems.
  22. The positional adjustment for DH just seems too strong on that WAR total. That bias against DHs seems very long standing over the decades of the DH very few regular DHs have ever hit comparable to All-Star first basemen so given that spot in the line-up has to be filled penalizing them even more than first base is not well justified. I stand by the assessment that if Winker is getting over 500 PAs and has a wRC+ in the 140 range on a 1 year deal you find the cash or make the offer and swing a deal if you see some compelling offer.
  23. If Winker hits well enough to justify the QO, paying him the going rate for a year strikes me as an easy choice to make. Getting a difference maker bat on a 1 year contract is pretty good value in my estimation especially when he has shown that volatility and a limited positional flexibility.
  24. I'm in a bit of middle ground here, Tellez's approach may have been a natural outcome of the shifting on him where he started to layoff certain kinds of hittable pitches, because they were just too easy to hit into hard outs. But on the other hand this analysis does point to him being a big enough outlier that he may have also fallen too far into that passive approach regardless. It's collectively unlikely but there are a lot of players who could have very big bounces offensively this season.
  25. No because you take the risk and either extend players early or you take the risk and extend top level talent. Lauer has been fine, but it doesn't take too much of a back step before you are wondering why you are paying him what ever money when you have other guys who could give similar innings.
