  1. All three played in the majors last year with Bandy being in the bigs the longest so matter who ends up in the minors they will be making pretty good money, probably around 200k for Bandy/Susac.
  2. pina wasn't added to the 40-man until 1 august 2016 (the day lucroy was traded). Meant all off season. If they didn't have plans for him I think he would have been DFA by now. Stearns acquired all three by trade so they are his guys and optioning Susac or Bandy lets him keep them all.
  3. They kept him on the 40 man all year and are well aware he is out of options so I'm just guessing they see him as the backup this year.
  4. Brewers Record: 75-86 Playoffs: No Brewers MVP: Broxton confirms the second half of 2016 wasn't a fluke. Brewers CY Young: Davies Brewers ROY: Brinson isn't called up until mid-season but he outperforms the other rookies First player traded: Gennett Surprise player: Hiram Burgos gets a callup due to trade and injury and never looks back. Disappointing player: Knebel struggles early and it continues in Colorado World Series: Rangers over Cubs
  5. Yes, it is kind of silly to say season tickets are not worth it and then indicate the holders shouldn't sell them. If there were no season ticket holders then these prime seats would just be available right away to Cubs fans from the Brewers directly.
  6. That strategy seemed to work much better in season getting a guy off waivers and then sending to the minors. That said he has had success removing Hernan Perez off the 40 man in the prior off season and then producing in the majors the following year. He also removed Goforth and Barrios this past off season and they are still in the organization as relief options for 2017. Guerra wasn't DFA after they acquired him but was an major success for a waiver claim. Most of these claims or DFA are not going to work out but all it takes is one or two to make it a success with little risk or money involved. The system maybe needs to be fixed when looking at an individual case like Adam Brett Walker and him being claimed and DFA on a regular basis but this is the system Stearns has to deal with right now and I like that he is using all avenues to bring in more talent.
  7. Surprised the Cubs gave a decent relief prospect for Butler as it isn't going to be real easy making the Cubs big league club. Edit: I guess Butler has a fourth option which I didn't even know existed. If you have player that has five or fewer professional seasons that has already burned through three options then the player gets a 4th. Knowing this now I guess Corey Knebel also has an option left, which could come in handy during the season.
  8. Pretty much a meh move, don't care they got rid of Scahil but don't think much of Adrianza either. Can't see him making the team unless there is a trade before the start of the season.
  9. Also worth noting that he is out of options so not a guy they can put on the 40 and send to AAA which is a key reason why he won't get targeted by many unless the acquiring team intends to DFA him at some point as well.
  10. I am in favor of picking him up but he doesn't deserve a 40 man spot so he would likely be DFA in short time by Stearns.
  11. I'm an accountant by trade, but I do not understand what you are saying. Probably that you pay less in taxes the more salary you take in. If you use a 40% rate and say he gets paid 8 million then taxes are reduced by 3.2 million. However, it is still 4.8 miilion more than they were spending before and no matter how low the payroll you still want return on investment and IMHO Susac will provide as much value as Wieters for much less. I won't be upset if they make the deal but would rather they not.
  12. Unfortunate that you were disappointed however I liked both, Force Awakens more than Rogue One and the vast majority of critics and fans agree. Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren are great characters and they don't have to rely on just the old characters. No chance that Luke will pull a Yoda from Attack of the Clones.
  13. Nice to see 5 so far in the top 100. I would think he would put Diaz, Ray and Brinson still in the top 100 so maybe looking at 8, potentially 9 if he likes Bickford.
  14. He seems to be on the decline, would rather just see what they have in Susac at this point as I am confident he can put up comparable offensice number entering his prime. Defensively Susac will never be what Wieters was but neither will Wieters.
  15. They would have to DFA somebody else though. It was an attempt at more minor league depth, I think they are done doing that for a while since the roster is full.
  16. Billy Wagner was definitely the most dominant of the bunch and was still real effective the year he retired. The difference is Hoffman kept on going and got his counting stat to 600.
  17. There isn't a lot of negativity, it is really one person. Nothing wrong with having a different opinion just that it isn't true that there is a lot of negativity.
  18. Nah, Knebel and Barnes have plenty of time to close, it is a low risk move that stabilizes the bullpen and can payoff at the deadline. History would seem to indicate they can get a nice haul.
  19. Another nice find Mass Haas, even Heyman is suggesting Brewers now. I would actually like the signing. Velocity was up and it was a nice bounceback from his miserable 2015, except for the home runs.
  20. I don't think so, at least not yet. A number of those guys have options and Milone isn't guaranteed anything. Injuries always happen and of course the possibility of a trade is always there.
  21. Just a heads up that John Sickels at Minor League Ball will be doing the Brewers rankings soon. He currently has the preliminary rankings for the Mets and is discussing the Orioles and after that it is the Brewers discussion and then rankings.
  22. Holland isn't good enough for an opt out. If he is good in 2017 he opts out, if he stinks the Brewers are stuck with him for another year. Pass until Holland realizes he is the on that has to go out there are prove his worth the money once again. Holland should just take a one year deal to be a closer, which could be Milwaukee.
  23. I really don't think Cordell's bat is good enough to be a regular at 1B especially if he is viewed as a 4th OF but if they want to use him at OF/1B then sure play him some at 1B to give him some versatility.
  24. The guy still seems to be in demand, not making it too far down the waiver wire list.
