  1. Seems like a poor business decision if you are going to have that location. However, as long as they don't do that in season nobody will even know. If they do that in season then they must not like money.
  2. If restricted to the current roster I think Stearns is liberal with players that still have options in order to keep talent. The bullpen is a little rough and could lead to less wins than 2016. SP: Guerra, Davies, Garza, Nelson, Peralta RP: Knebel, Barnes, Torres, Milone, Marinez, Barnes, Scahill C: Susac and Pina 1B: Thames 2B: Villar and Gennett 3B: Shaw and Perez SS: Arcia, Rivera OF: Broxton, Braun, Santana, Kirk N. Optioned: Anderson, Blazek, Cravy, Hader, Houser (is not placed on 60 day DL but is still a candidate for outrighting to open up 40 man spot), Jungmann, Lopez, Magnifico, Suter, Williams for pitchers. Bandy, Brinson, Cordell, Maverick, Reed for position players.
  3. I would think the Brewers would have sent Scooter to winter ball or something if they wanted him to play OF, my guess he is gone by opening day still.
  4. Well the 40 man roster is comprised of 25 major leaguers and at the very most 15 minir leaguers. Guys like Parker fall in the major league category and are always trying to improve the fringes of the majors if possible. Diaz falls under the category of 15 minor leaguers or even less when there are guys in the 15 day disabled list. The GM really has to pick his spots on which minor leaguers are on the 40 man. It makes complete sense to leave Diaz off considering he would have to remain on for three years and a number of other minor leaguers would have to be added during those three years ranked higher than Diaz.
  5. I know many still doubt Hernan Perez especially since he walks so little and is so reliant on batting average but I really think he is going to have an even better year in 2017. He won't be the named starter anywhere but should still get 400 or so at bats pretty easily with his versatility. He just never seems to stop playing baseball and that hard work will continue to make him a better major leaguer.
  6. I have no doubt that Clemens and Bonds will get in by the end of their ten years. The backlog is falling off and voters are almost forced to vote for them.
  7. He was optioned in 2015 and 2016 so the Brewers could option him if they obtained him. Don't know much about him but sure has been around, interesting that the Rangers would trade for him and then DFA him. Do recall that game against the Brewers and he actually looked pretty good.
  8. It could really go either way. By the trade deadline you would have a better idea how Santana and Broxton are performing on a full time basis and how Brinson is doing in AAA. It could be awesome but certainly there is a scenario where it would be terrible.
  9. I really don't think that group won a whole heck of a lot in A or AA, seemed to have more success when they got to AAA. I don't know it seems for the most part the Brewers record in the minors is always below average, which I guess I don't care about too much until they got stuck in Colorado.
  10. Blown saves can be deceiving when you are not the closer the whole year. I think the only 9th inning blown saves for Thornburg were two in that final weekend against the Rockies. I don't have a lot of faith in Knebel saving games, hopefull they still try to get somebody for that role. Regarding the projections, even worst case I put the floor at 68 as even the Braves and Reds were able to meet that low bar.
  11. A real nice listing, can really see the depth of talent when looking at that. I do think they stick with Angel Ventura as a starter in AA. Also predicting Maverick begins the year in AA and maybe Roach goes to AAA because he is getting to the point where he needs to move up or out. Might be a little More aggressive on T Williams as well since he is on the 40 man but he could be a guy that begins the year in high A but spends time in AA and AAA during the year as well and maybe even the bigs.
  12. Two that come to mind right away is July 29th against the Pirates when Junior Guerra pitches 8 2/3 innings in a 3-1 win. It looked like Counsell was going to take out Guerra in the 9th but he let him go for the shutout. The second is September 7th against the Cubs at home in a well played 2-1 victory with the most memorable moment being Keon Broxton robbing Anthony Rizzo of a home run.
  13. I like the move because it allows them to keep Susac/Bandy and Pina in the organization rather easily. Before the only way to keep all three was to have Maldonado/Pina in the bigs and Susac still in the minors. Now they can go with Susac/Pina and use the last option year on Bandy this year. If Pina proves to be a decent backup maybe they can get something for him in a trade and have Susac/Bandy in 2018 and lets see where Nottingham is at in 2019.
  14. He has pitched in the majors every year since 2009 so the major league forum would appear appropriate.
  15. They'll get a close look at him this spring and if they like him, they'll try and make a deal but I don't see them keeping him on their 25 man. That back of the bullpen idea's been tried and all it does is set back a prospect's development to the point where most never make it back. There will be no deal made, a trade with the Brewers can't be made until he clears waivers and by that point the Brewers would just take him back.
  16. I don't think the 3 rule 5 picks for the Padres impact Diaz too much since he is the only pitcher of the 3. Diaz can be the back of the bullpen guy the entire season until he gets "injured" at some point.
  17. That is a good point. It will be very difficult for the Padres to get him to stick in the majors after three option years especially if he gets hurt again. The Brewers might even get a shot at him again if the Padres are forced to remove him from the 40 man roster like the Brewers did with Wang in 2015.
  18. A team that claims him would still have to keep him on the 25 man roster. If he can't hack it in SD the Brewers will get him back. Not necessarily, all the other team get a shot at him again. Brewers are last in line to get him back.
  19. Tough to see Miguel Diaz go, a guy I had been legitimately excited about. do you really think a guy can jump from low A to the bigs and stay on the roster all season? If Wang can do it on a contending club then the Padres certainly can.
  20. It is now $50,000 to buy back per mlb.com.
  21. Since 3B is still a position of need in the organization maybe take a chance with Eric Wood. Good on base skills and finally showed some power last year and in the AFL. Already mentioned but I like Weiss as well, maybe Tyler Webb sticking as a loogy.
  22. The start of the 2017-18 season.
  23. Since they are on the 40 man I would add Jorge Lopez and Taylor Williams especially after reading yesterday from Mass Haas that Lopez is pitching so well in the Mexican League. Would probably still have Reed over Cordell right now on the depth chart, maybe Perez or Niewenhuis in LF since Braun will take his days off. I know you just took the relief pitchers directly from the Brewers site but doubt Scahil is the #2 reliever, believe they think highly of Barnes.
  24. Santana is horrible in the field and would love to try him at first.
  25. Amazing that Gideon had almost as many at bats at Helena than he had in his entire college career. He really is still an unknown and one of the guys I am most eager to see what he does in 2017.
