  1. I don't think it is that hard to argue that they were successful especially when just analyzing the past performance of this organization and lack of success. It would have been nice to go to a World Series but from 83-2007 they had no playoffs and not many players that they could market after they retire if any. They have now gone to the playoffs 2 out of 5 years and have future Brewer Hall of Famers in Braun, Fielder, Weeks, Hart and potentially others. Plus they have a guy in Braun that they can trot out over the next 50 years for a cheap pop and will likely be only the third Brewer hall of famer ever. I honestly don't understand how anybody that watched Brewers baseball in the 90's or early 2000's could say they were not successful. We always want more and they could always be more successful but generally Attanasio has put out a good product since becoming an owner and this is likely just a bump in the road and not a repeat of the Selig years.
  2. Like you stated in your post I don't think they really have for the most part. They did this year with the signing of Lohse and not getting a first round pick but overall Melvin has done a good job of trading prospects that were not really good major league players. In hindsight maybe it would have worked out even better to trade more of these prospects that turned into nothing for pitching. Even when they traded serviceable players like Cain, Brantley or Escobar they end up with guys equal or better in Gomez, Aoki and Segura. It is more poor drafting versus mortgaging the future. If they actually hit on some of their pitchers they would be having a much better season this year.
  3. I would agree that the starting pitching was much better, I would certainly take Sabathia over Gallardo, Sheets over Lohse, Bush over Estrada, Parra over Peralta and Suppan over whatever #5 from this year. Looking back I really don't like that bullpen though and they were lucky Torres had such a good final year.
  4. Right now the baked potato is my favorite thing at the park. If I am really hungry I eat at Fridays, especially on weekdays when I am coming after work and usually there is outside seating.
  5. I'll stay positive this month and go with 16-11.
  6. I'm one of those who automatically rejects trading Braun because he is the face of the franchise. I just don't see Mark A. approving that trade as Braun is the type of guy that could generate money for him well after Braun is retired. The 1982 Brewers have been milked to death for 30 years and they will do the same with Braun since Fielder left. It would also kill attendance short term and in the end just a bad business decision. 111 million for ages 32-37 scare me a bit but even then he will still be selling tickets and merchandise. Even with the long term deal he has currently they will probably end up extending him again so that he gets 3000 hits as a Brewer.
  7. I slightly disagree that the value for Gomez won't be higher than now. I think he will continue to have a solid year and his value will be highest after the season when he has proven himself for the whole year. At that point I think the Brewers management and owners will be real reluctant to trade him after the poor season the Brewers likely will have. Basically, I wouldn't necessarily mind them trading him but doubt they will be able to pull the trigger.
  8. He has had a decent May and I think he still has a chance to contribute in the future. Hopefully when he saw Prince get promoted ahead of him he realized he had to pick up his game as I don't think Prince is very good. With that said would much rather see Gonzalez outrighted before either of them as he is not good anymore and doesn't even seem to care.
  9. Why should I believe Bianchi can even match offensively Weeks' 2012 season? Well Weeks had a bad year in 2012 except for a couple of months so that is not saying much but it doesn't really matter anyway. Bianchi would exceed Weeks 2013 season and any future season Weeks has and any season Weeks had on defense. Bianchi has a role on this team in the future and Weeks does not so there is no real reason to play him anymore unless Melvin thinks he will get hot during a small stretch and have an opportunity to trade him.
  10. As much as I didn't like the signing of Lohse I hope that he comes back soon. Usually it is kind of exciting to see a young pitcher for a start or two but man looking at the Sounds starting pitching I really don't want to see anybody up in Milwaukee. Even Hellweg, who you hear good things about every once in a while, obviously needs work still and isn't ready for the big leagues. Thornburg, who created some buzz last summer when called up seems to get shelled every outing. It can be tough to watch Brewers games at times this year but the people of Nashville have a really terrible team down there.
  11. Well he is signed for another seven years so there is a chance Braun's contract could hamstring them down the road but right now certainly not.
  12. I agree with the first sentence as he isn't being benched because of his past success and is getting paid because of his past success. However, that doesn't change the current state of him being a bad player. I think a replacement should be better than Weeks, it would be nice if his in season replacement would play at replacement level because Weeks is not anywhere near that. In the future I think they should try to achieve better than replacement level at 2B but I am not expecting anymore than that this year. If they play Bianchi consistently the remainder of the year they can get a pretty good idea if he can start in future years or is just the utility guy.
  13. Too many people are living in the past regarding Weeks. They remember how good he was and keep up bringing up past success, but that isn't who he is anymore. It was hard for me too, accepting the fact that he is not a good player anymore but that is where we are at now. I'm not mad at him or anything because it happens to every player in every sport, probably more frustrated with the manager/gm that they keep on playing him. When taking into consideration his defense, which may be getting worse, there are very few option that are worse than Weeks. Bianchi might be the better option because he is a guy that will likely be on the team for a number of years and Weeks time here is almost over.
  14. He should be but is instead spending it on this bum.
  15. Just a reminder what a piece of garbage he is and why I will be booing him on the next homestand: She told deputies she and Rodriguez had been arguing before going to bed, and he became upset and struck her on the head. She said her nose began to bleed after getting hit due to a history of physical abuse. The woman told police she grabbed a sweatshirt and tried to stop the bleeding, but then Rodriguez grabbed her by the hair and threw her. Once on the floor, she said Rodriguez then began kicking her and injured her left upper shoulder blade, bruised her left upper thigh and injured her left hand near her wrist. After the beating, she said Rodriguez dragged her to his car. She told him to take her to the hospital, but Rodriguez screamed at her to change her bloody clothes and refused to take her anywhere until she did. She told Rodriguez she was in a great amount of pain and unable to lift her arm very high, so he cut the sleeve of her shirt so she could remove it. After putting on a clean shirt, according to the complaint, Rodriguez began to drive the victim around, but she said it appeared they were just driving around in circles in the subdivision. They began to argue again in the truck and the victim said Rodriguez struck her in the chin, then drove around some more before returning to the home. When they got back, the victim said she wanted to call the police for help, but Rodriguez then grabbed all the of the phones and began to hide them, so she had to go to the second floor of the residence to find a telephone to use. Police interviewed the maid about the incident and she said she took a pill to sleep and didn't see the incident, but she has worked for Rodriguez for six years and this is a normal and known behavior for him.
  16. They probably would have given up on Gomez by now as well and given Cain the job. Still think they would have signed Lohse. Would rather have Segura, Gomez, Hellweg and NLCS trip instead of Odorizzi, Escobar and Cain.
  17. Not wasting a couple of million dollars on this guy, a better move would have been Wooten or Sanchez for sure.
  18. Sure if you expect Weeks to continue to hit that line which would just be silly considering the track record. Not really, what is silly is thinking old Weeks is somehow just going to appear. He is gone forever, the good numbers he put up in the past has nothing to do with the future, much more likely he is done.
  19. It still is a concern this year because every plate appearance over 600 this year is one less at bat he needs next year to get 2015 to vest. Unless Weeks gets hurt Melvin will have to make the tough decision in releasing him sometime in 2014.
  20. I agree with this, I mean he did show up for the wrap party in Scranton so it's not like he is trying to distance himself from the show. The finale shouldn't revolve around him but he should certainly make an appearance at his friend Dwight's wedding.
  21. Nobody is stopping you. Weeks is done, Lucroy is cheap and hasn't hit his prime.
  22. The finale will last until 9:15 and I'm willing to bet Carrell makes an appearance.
  23. Over time as in say over 10+ years sure, but over a single season there is no way they will. What is this based on? If you conservatively say 125 pitches per game + say 25 safe/out, fair/foul calls per game that is 150*162 = 24,300 calls per season. I would think that would be more than enough. What is your 150 bad calls a game based on? I also agree bad calls don't even out over the course of a year, especially if the bad call directly costs a team a game like this week.
  24. So was Delmon Young really telling the scout what to type which is why he has the coded message of PLEASE HELP ME!
  25. I can't believe I am posting this but the Brewers can't afford to trade Yuni right now. With the way Weeks and Gonzalez are playing there are just not any good options. I like Bianchi but only as an utility guy that rarely plays.
