  1. Seager will be cheaper and have a shorter deal than Schwarber, and Wong would bring back significant value off his 2021 season.
  2. I kind of like the idea of signing Kyle Seager, moving Urias to 2B and trading Kolton Wong.
  3. I love the trade. This frees up Taylor to get 50-60 starts in CF so Cain can be productive when he plays. The prospects had to be sacrificed to get Bradley off the books. He had to go.
  4. The Brewers are desperate for a bat from either side. Rizzo posted a .901 OPS against LHP in 2021. He struggled against RHP but some of that was seeing a lot of Woodruff, Burnes and Peralta. At 32, Rizzo is still a tough out and brings a presence. He's also excellent with the glove. If there's a DH in the NL, it makes sense to sign Rizzo, and let Tellez do a lot of DH'ing. Brewers have pop from the right side with Adames, Urias, and Taylor, all of whom should be in the 25 HR range over a full season. Other than a half season from Tellez who might be the lone lefty bat capable of a 25 HR season, and a good first half from Navarez, they are really lacking from the left side. I'd have no problem with a Rizzo or a Joc Pederson added to the mix. Brosseau is the wild card. He has 16 HR in just over 400 major league AB's. I'm sure they'll find a RH power bat somewhere once the big boys are done shopping too. Now that Marlins have Garcia, Garrett Cooper might make a nice trade target. Shouldn't take that much to get him.
  5. One-year $10 million deal. Pricey! https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/12/phillies-to-sign-corey-knebel.html I would have liked to seen Knebel back in a Brewer uniform, but yeah $10 million is a lot. I think Brewers interest would have been in the 6-7 million range. Philly could be in sell mode by the deadline, so maybe we can revisit this in July.
  6. How about Bradley and his $11 million to SD for Myers and his $22.5 million? Myers can play anywhere in the OF and 1B where he could platoon with Tellez.
  7. If they landed a 3B, I think it's more likely they move Urias to 2B and deal Wong. Wong would be a perfect fit for the White Sox.
  8. Prince was on a HOF trajectory through his 20s. His slugging/HR totals slipped a bit when he went to Detroit so had he stayed healthy I don't know if he would have sustained it but had he stayed a Brewer and played full seasons into his mid 30's, I think he would have amassed numbers that would have put him in. The ironic thing was that he was in there every day with 9 seasons of at least 157 games played and he played in all 162 four times.
  9. Pitched in 4 games for the 82 Brewers. Only 64. Indeed sad.
  10. I don't see him as comparable to Boxberger who was an accomplished reliever in the big leagues looking for a rebound. I think he's depth (more like Cousins) but they need at least one veteran with both Boxberger and Strickland departed.
  11. Prior to the 2020 minor league season being wiped out by Covid, Feliciano was being groomed as a future starter, not a backup. His 2021 season was injury plagued and his production wasn't there. He was okay in AFL, but he's going to need a big season at AAA in 2022. I think they still have faith in him or they wouldn't have traded Henry.
  12. They're the most talented team period they've played offensively. Only Michigan is close. Martinez can be an erratic passer but he'll make an NFL roster. He's a terrific athlete. When faced with Wisconsin's pass rush, he simply backpedaled and was able to get enough on the ball to get it to his tight ends running free. Nobody Wisconsin's played has been able to do that.
  13. I like Soler a lot and not because he was just World Series MVP. On days when you play him in RF, you can replace him with either Taylor or JBJ in the late innings. He could easily be a 40 HR guy again, maybe more. It will be interesting to see what he gets. I think he could be a guy you could sign for one year because if he puts up big numbers a year after winning Series MVP, he'd be in line for a huge payday. I'd be ecstatic if the Brewers signed Soler and dealt for Olson.
  14. I don't think Reynolds is nearly as realistic a target as say Matt Olson.
  15. Olson might have been in the back of Stearns' mind when he acquired Tellez. He'd be a key part of a deal for Olson as they don't have a logical replacement for him in their lineup.
  16. What's your alternative? They like a 4 man outfield rotation and they only have three in Yelich, Cain, and Taylor without Avi. I'm sure there are some decent guys out there that will have to settle on short term deals but probably not the quality of Garcia.
  17. This seams to be a trend around baseball. I have the extra innings package and virtually every team seems to rotate guys or give their main guys vacations. Great job if you can get it but as a fan, I like the familiarity. At least they are down to two and while Lepay is good on hoops and football, I just never enjoyed him all that much on baseball.
  18. So you are upset that there are fans grasping at the idea of a silver lining in what was an inevitable situation with him exercising his option? Come on dude, you are better than that. If JBJ shows up next spring and looks the same as he did this year, I doubt the leash is going to be very long. But he's a sunken cost regardless, so might as well bring him back and see if he can provide any value to offset his cost. But yeah, right now at least, this looks like one of the rare "misses" of the Stearns era. I see what your saying. But the situation is similar to Suppan in 2010. Suppan was by any measure one of the worst starting pitchers in the game in 2009, a 5.29 ERA, a 5.69 FIP and 1.695 WHIP. But he had a long record of average production and they owed him $12.5 million in 2010 so he had a job entering 2010. They gave him 31 innings in 2010 to prove what everyone already knew. He was worse than he was in 2009. I have no issue keeping Bradley for now, but I anticipate them adding some outfield offense, and once that happens they should not hesitate simply cutting him.
  19. I think we might be stuck rolling with the same lineup unless we acquire a big time hitter in a trade. With Yelich and his exhorbitant salary kicking in next season and the raises due to the arbitration guys I just don't see how we can add a big salary like Castellanos even if he is exactly the type of hitter this lineup desperately lacks. It basically amounts to a trade of Cain for Castellanos (theoretically anyway). It's just a question of what you have to attach to Cain to get rid of him. Assuming that's the direction they want to go. That's a little tricky though, unless you think Taylor can handle CF every day (I don't, personally). There are many indicators that Stearns would not be comfortable with an OF of Yelich/Taylor/Castellanos defensively. Doesn't seem likely at all to me. I think Taylor has answered any questions about his defensive ability in CF. He takes good routes, has the speed to cover a lot of ground and has a good enough arm. Castellanos isn't great but he's not the butcher he's been and if there's a universal DH, I'm sure he'll be asked to DH some. I think Soler or Garcia returning are more likely scenarios but not because of defense. It would be because they would come a little cheaper.
  20. Ground yourself in this comment above people. I watched Joey hit the walk off home run the last week off the season in Appleton, but before that he had left like 11 men stranded on base with pop ups and strike outs. And that is A plus baseball. He has a lot of work yet to do. That being said, he could be Corey Hart. Wiemer had 33 runs batted in in 152 PA at Appleton and an OPS of 1.146. Over a full season of 608 PA, that's translates to 132 RBI. You can cherry pick a few AB's over a day or two where he failed to drive in runs, but to suggest he struggled at high A is a stretch. He dominated high A.
  21. Nobody was more disappointing with the bat in the NLDS than Kolton Wong and his .067/.176/.067 line. Guess we shouldn't have been too surprised. Except for 2014, he's been pretty awful in the postseason. The last 3 years, he's just 6 for 43. I wouldn't mind the Brewers finding an every day 3B and moving Urias to 2B and dealing Wong.
  22. How do we move JBJ with that salary? I'm optimistic they can afford to eat his salary and simply let him go. They did it for Suppan way back when.
  23. Trade Stearns and Bradley to the Mets for Nimmo and a prospect
  24. This team isn't all that young. It's only "young" by Wisconsin standards. Besides Davison who'll be playing his 5th year, the starters should include a senior, Chris Vogt, who's started 50 games at Cincinnati, a junior, Tyler Wahl and a sophomore, Johnny Davis. Both Wahl and Davis have extensive experience. Depending on the lineup, they could start a freshman PG, Chucky Hepburn, a 4 star recruit, but they also could go with junior transfer Jahcobi Neath who's played extensively at Wake Forest, or sophomore Ben Carlson who was ticketed to see extensive action last year before getting injured. This turnover isn't uncommon at all at in major college basketball. At most they'll have maybe 3 freshmen in their rotation. Stephen Crowl is the one sophomore besides Carlson who figures to have his role expanded significantly.
  25. I think the White Sox would be interested in Cain and even Bradley if they could dump Kuechel's salary. There defense in RF was bad. They also have a huge hole at 2B. Hernandez was a major disappointment. How about Cain and Wong for Sheets, Burger, and Kuechel? Brewers could move Urias to 2B full time when Burger is ready, play Taylor full time in CF, Sheets in RF and have their 3B of the future in Burger. Brewers could use the $8.5 million saved for 2022 to bring back Escobar to play 2nd base on a one year stopgap deal leaving Urias at third until Burger is ready. At best Kuechel could fill Brett Anderson role in 6th starter spot.
