  1. Somewhat related, I remember losing to WISAA champs DePere Abbot Pennings in basketball in their last year as a school. Then they were folded into Notre Dame. They had some division 1 players over the years (Kevin and Chris Rankin?)
  2. That's a pretty safe guess, considering he died 30 years ago.
  3. That explains it, they didn't actually come to Milwaukee.
  4. With 6 of their last 12 games against the Cubs, the Brewers will probably be fighting for their playoff lives right until the end, unless they can build a 8+ game wild card lead before then.
  5. My question is whether they can sell out the rest of the season. Some of the weekday September games could be tough, but the playoff race could help that. That would make 37 straight sellouts and 54 total for the season (2/3rds of the season would be sellouts).
  6. Huh? Nothing "moderate" about our winters.
  7. Yeah, I miss WISAA and the old Metro conference. There were some great battles in basketball.
  8. Dominican High School Knights. Colors are Green, White, and Black. Alma mater of Shannon Smith, Andy Kowske, Ray Nixon, JR Blount. I was a manager on the State Champion basketball team with Shannon. Shannon's sister was in my class and Damon Key's brother was in my class. Football coach Joe Koch (before going to Oak Creek High School) led us to our only football championship while I was there. I don't think we've had a winning season since he left. I've got my 15 year reunion this weekend and I'm interested to see what people look like and how they're doing.
  9. I think Nix over Gwynn is mainly taking the hotter hand. Gwynn has been pretty bad in Nashville lately. AVG/OBP/SLG Nix 284/348/539 Gwynn 269/325/317
  10. The riverwalk being so narrow and intimate, along with it being below the street level are what make it so cool. Contrasted with the Milwaukee river which is very wide and requires crossing streets to follow the river walk. And yes, we did all of those other things in San Antonio. There is a lot to see.
  11. Gary, Indiana is one of the smelliest places I've ever been. But the worst has to be when I had to work for many months at the Jones Island Sewerage Treatment plant. It's especially ripe after a rainfall. After a day there, you, your car and everything smells like crap, literally. Brings back lovely memories whenever the wind comes off the lake, carrying that lovely aroma inland.
  12. Most of my choices have been mentioned already. Ireland - The whole country in beautiful and the people are very friendly. Mackinac Island - Waking up to the sound of horses and no cars. Sitting on a front porch of a hotel before the crowds arrive is so peaceful. Yellowstone and Niagra Falls - Natural wonders Walt Disney World - Yes, I'm a Disney nut. I wish I could afford to stay at the Polynesian Resort every time we go. We stayed there for our Honeymoon. San Antonio - The Riverwalk is awesome. Vancouver - Very international city with lots of great food. Boundary Waters MN - Just you, a pack and a conoe in some very beautiful country.
  13. Hardy was right there with Braun last month. 1030 OPS with 9 HRs and 21 RBIs vs 1163 OPS with 9 HRs and 23 RBIs. Only difference is that Hardy had a few more ABs.
  14. He suffered from the Power 50 jinx earlier in the year. He finally made it on the Power 50 and then he promptly got shelled during the next month. So his Power 50 stay was brief.
  15. And Captain Lou quietly disappears from the Power 50 without a mention.
  16. Man, they're short position players at every level now.
  17. Doesn't it suck, getting older? I used to have a season pass to Great America, went all the time. Never got sick on anything, even went on rides right after eating. Now that my son is old enough to like some of the bigger rides, I have to pace myself. I can still do them, but I get a bit dizzy if the ride is too long or I do too many in a row. The only things that really gets to me (and always has) are movies like Blair Witch and first person video games. But I'm fine with motion simulators and roller coasters. Go figure.
  18. Funny, that was me four years ago with a newborn. It was the most I've ever watched. I don't anticipate watching any of it this year.
  19. And that was one of the few times he has ever been asked to pitch in multiple innings.
  20. Not since Chad Moeller anyway. But just about every pitcher has sung Kendall's praises this year. CC, Sheets, and Suppan all mentioned how little they have to shake him off.
  21. If Gallardo hadn't gotten hurt, we'd likely be ahead of the Cubs right now. As much as the Gallardo injury deflated the fans, it seemed to also deflate the team. They went on to lose 12 of their next 16 games.
  22. With Fielder heating up and Braun taking a few more walks, his run numbers should increase.
  23. I just noticed that Braun is one pace for 198 hits, 92 runs, and 119 RBIs. Only Cooper (82 & 83) and Yount (82) have ever had 200 hits, 100 runs and 100 RBIs in a season. Molitor is the only other Brewer to have 200 hits in a season, but he never had 100 RBIs for the Brewers. Braun could be entering some pretty elite territory.
  24. The Brewers have now matched their road win total for 2006 (27-54) and are 5 wins short of their 2007 total. They'd have to go 20-8 to match 1982, which was the best road record at 47-34.
