  1. I'll get ripped apart for this, but I agree with everything you just said. I think Braun took something (most likely to heal after a long 2011 season filled with injuries), but I would bet that he didn't take a PED. Mark McGwire, between his rookie year and 1998, when he hit 70 home runs, bulked up by 37 pounds. Ryan Braun, between 2007 and 2012, added 8 pounds. His rookie year, he averaged a home run every 14.4 at bats. In 2012, he averaged a home run every 14.55 at bats (those numbers are from memory earlier this evening.) Where's the gains from these steroids he's supposedly taking? Braun was a top 100 amateur talent per Baseball America. He was an All-American at Miami. Are we supposed to believe he was juicing in high school? Couple things. 1. Braun was using synthetic testosterone. Let's not confuse what he was using with anabolic steroids like Winstrol that was so popular in the 80's. 2. Whats to say Braun wasn't using this stuff from Paul Bosch back to his Miami days? You even said his numbers have stayed the same the entire time. It's not hard to beat MLB's testing as long as you keep your T/E levels under 4-1. Braun most likely failed his test in 2011 because he just took his dosage which explains the 20-1 level he had. Well said. Stache, as I said a lot earlier in this thread, I think you are confusing taking roids with taking hgh. It's a different animal. Easier to control (no spike in testosterone) and does not bulk you up. When used like many athletes are doing now, it just keeps you feeling 100%, not giving you the strength to bench a car.
  2. damn straight True. I assume there are a lot of guys cheating, so I'm never mad when I find out. Hopefully he doesn't do it again.
  3. Pretty crazy stuff here. Some people have some crow to eat (not in a bad way). This is why I warned, and am always nervous believing an athlete's word because I like him or the team. Some people made pretty bold statements saying ESPN and MLB were garbage for spreading lies (this is from conversations with people, friends, and on the boards). Lets put it behind us and hope he doesn't drop off too much. I don't think he will much, hgh is not like roids. I'm just worried about injuries. Braun look pretty bad right now.
  4. Man the Open Championship was great! Favorite event of the year (yes even more than the Masters). Good to see Phil win it.
  5. I'm guessing Youkilis Well played!! Ha. Sorry, brain fart. K Rod!
  6. If ARod gets traded, who's our guy?
  7. I'd suggest switching to soda water with your drinks. You will feel a lot better and it's a lot healthier. Any gin or vodka and soda with lime is really a great summer drink. Or if you still need some flavor you can do a splash of sprite or something with the soda water.
  8. Boy he has looked great as of late. He's been fun to watch. More excitement for the future!
  9. Wow those are the dumbest comments I've ever seen. People don't get Gomez. He's genuinely just a happy dude that plays his butt off. He was so genuinely excited he caught that and that's all. My friend, who is a cubs fan, said the best part of that catch was how excited he was. Just some angry Reds fans.
  10. Part of it is they don't want to commit to a 1b because Morris is close.
  11. I'm sure many of you have already heard that James Gandolfini passed away yesterday from a heart attack. I just wanted to say that I thought his portrayal of Tony Soprano was one of the best performances of all time. In my book, Sopranos is the best series of all time, and he was the main reason behind that. I know he was in a lot more than just Sopranos, but he will always be thought of as Tony Soprano. Way too early for him to go.
  12. If you throw over the top, it's a lot easier to be squared up. If you throw across your body you have momentum going to the side as well. Not every guy can throw over the top and obviously guys get different movement from different arm slots. I'm not saying it's smart to fall off the mound like Mitch Williams but being perfectly squared up seems a little old fashioned. Kind of like guys shouldn't fade away on a jump shot. Even if you are in perfect position you can still get hit. There is little time to react no matter how you look at it.
  13. Ok first off, you can still get hit in if you are in a "proper fielding position." Second, that is kind of old school, and maybe good to teach little league kids, but at some point you kind of have to just go with the motion that works for you. For some that's falling off to the side. I too saw the special in the spring about protection for pitchers. Most of the protection was a hat with padding in it. The problem with that is it doesn't protect the temple or face. I'm really not sure what the answer is, but I think something will probably come at some point. Not sure if they could do something like a shield that came down to protect the eyes (like hockey) or maybe glasses that were protective, to go along with the padded hat? Hockey helmet with a visor on it, now we're talking!
  14. Nice Kotsay reference! I think we should be fine, I just want Braun healthy.
  15. I just want to say, he was a lot of fun for me to watch back when he wasn't doing as well, and now, it's kind of amazing. Max effort and man does he have athleticism. Glad he's on our team.
  16. Ya that was pretty crazy last night. Definitely some head hunting going on. I too loved the old timers all right in the mix!
  17. The Brewer's win streak.
  18. Good posts on here everyone, made me think of a few things that I guess I hadn't thought of for a long time or ever. I just think there is a lot of eye test stuff that you can't put a rating on when it comes to defense. Good point on guys who just get to base hits quickly and get good throws in, that keeps people from advancing an extra base. Heck, even just the threat of a guy's good arm can keep people from trying to advance. Again, things you can't put a number on. I was going to guess that defensive metrics would have us somewhere in the middle based on my eye test, so didn't surprise me that's where we fell. Anyone see Joe Block's tweet on line drives hit to CF, almost all of them were outs. Thought that was pretty cool. So can someone give me a brief breakdown of UZR. What is it measuring, range?
  19. Nice victory tonight and good work Weeks and Yo. Gomez keeps doing his thing and its beautiful. I will keep saying it for good luck, lets keep getting closer to that .500 mark!
  20. I really have never paid much attention to this except for the eye test. I was curious today, how our defense was doing on the year. Can you guys fill me in on how we are doing defensively compared to the league so far and maybe give me a simple breakdown of how these defensive metrics work? Thanks in advance!
