  1. I'm 99% positive you can only use a PTBNL if it's a cross-league trade. Correct me if I am wrong.
  2. "The Dodgers are determined to find an upgrade at third base and their pitching over the next five weeks, tweets JIm Bowden of ESPN.com. The Dodgers have given Juan Uribe a great deal of time in the hot corner this season and so far he has responded with his best offensive season in a while, hitting .268/.356/.399 over 50 games." http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/06/nl-west-notes-giants-dodgers-gonzalez-rockies.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MlbTradeRumors+%28MLB+Trade+Rumors%29 They want Gallardo and Ramirez and clear that salary, I could think of a package surrounding Zach Lee and Joc Peterson and another. It would clear a TON of salary.
  3. @SteveGilbertMLB If the Brewers offered Carlos Gomez for Archie Bradley how open to it would the DBacks be in your opinion? @jordo2323 I would say they would not be interested in that.
  4. As good as he's playing I want to put Segura in that group but I just can't. In all reality if you asked me and I lived outside of the state I would put him a distant fourth. I'd be more concerned with Segura's body type as he matures and I don't see him sticking at SS more than five years. None of the other players mentioned have very difficult position questions and could turn into outstanding fielders (Trout already is). It's difficult to tell with Machado, but he should start to show power that even Segura will drool at by the time he's Segura's age (Machado is 2+ years younger than Segura). 1. Harper 2. Trout 3. Machado 4. Segura I don't really even care for Harper, but that kind of swing and power potential is once in a generation. I don't see Trout hitting 40+ year after year. He's almost a full year younger than Trout and hasn't really even gotten rolling yet. Segura's good, but he doesn't have a franchise-center, Ryan-Braun type bat. I'm glad we have him though.....
  5. This is a big start for Yo and arguably one of the more important single starts of the year. A big start by Gallardo massages his trade value. A bad start on the other hand....
  6. The same one the beat writer for the DBacks and various contacts I use at Baseball America are in. And they've all replied to some effect that if we offered up Gomez for either one the Diamondbacks would turn that down. Both of those players alone ARE more valuable than Gomez.
  7. @nickpiecoro Settle a bet for me. If the Brewers offered Carlos Gomez for Archie Bradley how long does it take for the Dbacks to say no? @jordo2323 I'd guess the Dbacks wouldn't do that deal, but in that world of trades, Alex Meyer/Denard Span happened last off-season.
  8. It may be easier to move Aoki right now and someone else. Believe me I've come to love Aoki (and Gomez for that matter) but if you think about it he's only an attractive player at this price-point. Once he hits arbitration in 2015 it gets dicey.
  9. Now tell me about years 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. Because financially-controllable, potential (and probable) front-line pitching is WAY (and I mean WAY) more valuable than an defensive-first OF who is playing over his head. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Gomez isn't valuable. But suggesting that Arizona would be open to dealing Skaggs AND Bradley for Gomez (and either, or both for that matter), Axford/Schafer isn't realistic. Frankly, I'm betting if we offered up Gomez for Archie Bradley straight up they would tell us to go fly.
  10. You wanna package Xander Boegarts and Matt Barnes/Anthony Ranaudo for Segura and I may be obliged. Other than that....there's only a handful of players I would target for Segura: Gerrit Cole Shelby Miller Matt Moore Taijuan Walker Jameson Taillion
  11. I obviously say this in jest, but what planet do you come from? Because the Brewers would be lucky to get Skaggs for that return much less another top-25 pitching prospect. Archie Bradley and Tyler Skaggs alone are more valuable comodities than Carlos Gomez is by himself. There are like 10 starters in MILB that project to be a high number two or actual number one; and those are two of them.
  12. First, there is a HUGE difference between a pre-arbitration-eligible stud-pitching prospect and how he relates to "team control" than how we have Yovani Gallardo locked up for a couple of years. I'm talking like 40-million-dollars-worth difference. Second, we certainly CAN go into 2014 with Gallardo at the top of our rotation, but I wouldn't expect a playoff birth under that circumstance. You may not want to deal Gallardo for someone who doesn't fit your expected return, but the last thing you want is to get nothing (which is going to happen to Corey Hart, frankly).
  13. Baltimore has also been quoted stating that Bundy and Gausman were untouchable. I don't always buy into this, but I just don't see them trading two controllable players like that for a bad contract and a SP who before this week certainly seemed in decline. Major-League-ready stud pitching prospects are out in my book. We need to look a level or two back. Think high-A.
  14. I'm going to call it now and say that Williams will land about six on Baseball America's next Brewers top-10. From what I've heard they all praised the pick and he's got helium (to them). They will make a statement there ranking him higher than you think.... (Not that it matters....)
  15. Semi-random opinion: I like Anthony Rendon's bat better than Wil Myers and it's not even close for me. One strikes out at around a 4/1 rate and the other walks more than he strikes out. (And this doesn't even mention that Rendon is a high-level fielder who could push a gold-glover to 1B in two years at a premium position).
  16. The more I see this kind of chatter, the more open I think I'd be to moving Yo. Maybe the Tigers wouldn't want to move Castellanos for Axford, but I wonder what they'd be willing to add to Castellanos for Gallardo plus Axford. This seems more realistic to me, but I'd still hold off here. If we're going to trade Gallardo we need to get a potential frontline in return. The reality is that were priced out of the impact-free-agent-pitcher market and unless we come in the bottom five records it's WAY less probable to pull one in the middle of the draft in 2014. Right now, I'd still hold Gallardo. It was a WAY easier decision to want to deal him before these last two starts, admittingly. The way I see it is that we need to replace a lost ace. Gallardo is now a good #2 (as much as this pains me to say). I just don't see the channels to get a shot at a "Verlander" unless we use Gallardo to grab a "Stephenson" who could turn into one.
  17. We don't unless you want to trade Braun for him. I respect why you say this, but you really never know definitively. Who knows what the Tigers might think? I could certainly see a scenario in which they view 1B & 3B as blocked by Cabrera & Fielder. I realize it'd probably be in their best interest to slide Prince to DH, Cabrera to 1B, & slot Castellanos in at 3B... but Melvin managed to score Segura+ for half a season of Greinke. If the Tigers felt they could work with Axford's mechanics & rediscover the brilliant form of '10 and '11, they'd have him through two more seasons after this one. I get that SP>RP, but if a team believe they can fix Ax, that's a lot of potential value for a team clearly in 'win now' mode. We may not know definitively, but it's like 99.999999999%. There's no way, NO WAY, they could swindle a deal swapping Castellanos for Axford. I'm not sure they'd do it for two Axfords.
  18. I'm sort of surprised that Jose Pena isn't on more of these lists.
  19. Rendon is a budding gold-glove 3rd baseman. A truly-gifted fielder. I don't think the Nationals are very worried about his transition to 2nd base.
  20. The Royals giving up Ventura, Hosmer, Cuthbert for that and I'll quit smoking. There's just no way. I'm not sure the Royals would be willing to move Ventura alone for that package. Not with an expiring contract in Hart and Aoki's another year away.
  21. I find it very strange that the key word in the language released is "linked". Somewhere in the back of my head I believe whatever Braun was on was not a PED.
  22. I'm not knocking Schafer's defense, but I think the separation may be more than you think. Gomez is currently among the MLB leaders in most sabremetrics measuring defense. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=y&type=1&season=2013&month=0&season1=2013&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=24,d That and he's signed thru 2016 at a reasonable price considering his defense props up whatever offensive struggles he may incur. I was against the extention, admittingly, but at this point this is looking like a genius move by Melvin.
  23. I just don't see the Brewers letting Weeks sit or platoon unless they're a game or a half-game out of first and he's still struggling. Especially before July 31st.
  24. We obviously owe him the remainder of his contract. I, for one, was not speaking about the next season and a half. I was speaking longer-term. It's time to start planning on how to move on. And if we can somehow package him and ditch that last year, so be it. (Somehow, secretly, I think we'll try to move him to New York when Cano shocks the world and goes elsewhere - but it's a far-fetched guess)
  25. I hate to be a pessimist, but I'm not sure I can buy into these two statements right now. Although I hope I'm wrong it's not probable that the Brewers contend for this division with their inexperience at pitcher and their propensity for injury. I think a better statement, unfortunately, would be "I think something would have to go horribly right for the Brewers to end up contending." Second, you can't even pawn-off Weeks' struggles to injury recovery anymore. I just don't see how he's going to turn this around to make him worth his contract. The money would be better allocated elsewhere.
