  1. .. and even then I don't see the merit. If Bauers' bat is truly his bat of the 2nd half last year .. he needs to be in the lineup anyway. So against RHP just put Bauers in left and Chourio in center and against LHP Lockridge should man center. Unless we think Yelich -> Bauers is a drastic downgrade defensively.
  2. As an Appleton native, this week is always oddly exciting to see who we get to have to open the season. The timing of Pena/Made/Fischer all coming through last year for 9 minutes was unfortunate to us here... but understandable. Payne is a great start! Keep 'em coming..
  3. Here's a little nugget on Lockridge from a Yahoo sports article posted today: – Speaking of Lockridge, the Brewers gave him an inning at first base to end the second exhibition against the Reds. He was getting some work in at the cold corner pre-game and it could be a spot for him to see some action this year, with Murphy noting that they need a third first baseman in the event they have to pinch-run for Andrew Vaughn. This would be similar to Andruw Monasterio’s role at first base we saw last year. From the same article: – As for Christian Yelich, he spent last year primarily as the DH with only a small handful of starts in the outfield. That could change this year, according to Murphy. Now another year removed from back surgery, physically he’s capable of handling that kind of workload, but it will largely hinge on what happens in that centerfield platoon between Mitchell and Lockridge. Murphy noted that if that centerfield group isn’t “offensive enough” that they could put Yelich in the outfield more often, signaling that Jackson Chourio would move from LF to CF similar to how he did last year in the absence of Mitchell.
  4. Shane Smith on the hill for the Sox so it is either he or Mitchell getting the at bats I would guess. I see no reason not to have Bauers in the lineup against a RHP after this spring. Frelick Chourio Yelich Contreras Turang Vaughn Bauers Rengifo Ortiz I actually like that lineup a lot.
  5. Meccage is a forgotten name in a lot of ways. Just turned 20 a few days ago. With all of the wildness of the MLB young pitching talent we've accumulated in the recent year+ and the quick ascension of a few draft picks ahead of him ... I think he is an easy one to forget about. 2nd rd pick. Big frame. Good tools. It would be awesome if he could get to Appleton this year and stretch himself to 100 innings maybe?
  6. Sproat, Harrison, Drohan.. all give reason for excitement. Miz, Patrick, Priester, Gasser, Henderson... it's actually a little sick.
  7. What is going on with Bauers? Why is he Barry Bonds right now?
  8. I know Rob Z is starting on the DL but the '5 lefties in the pen' thing never made sense. I know Easton was on schedule to start up with us but I'd still be taking calls on Koenig. He feels like a regression candidate to me. Always need a mop up guy that can eat 4 innings in a blowout. Welcome to the squad Mr. Woodford.
  9. I don't have a final number for you - but my current super bold prediction is that we have a better March this year than we had last.
  10. My brother and I grabbed a couple of SRO tickets a few days ago for $40ea when they released more. We did poke around looking at some other seats but figured we wanted to walk to stadium to check out any updates as it is so we took the SRO. The prices to be seated are high for sure :(
  11. Strzelecki has been my dark horse to make the OD roster all spring..
  12. I would be taking calls on Rob Z for certain.
  13. I'm not saying you are wrong ... but that is just so many lefties in the bullpen. If we are saving Megill/Uribe for 8/9 that means we only have one right handed option out of the bullpen for the middle innings? The league is 2/3 right handed hitting ... again, I am not saying you are wrong but that will be wild if true.
  14. I guess if I'm trying to silver line this... the Brewers were going to have to make some tough OD roster cuts as it is with how many deserving arms we have. There's no reason not to be overly cautious with him and give him as much time as he needs while we have the depth to allow for it.
  15. I think if there is a surprise (barring a trade at another position) it would be in the bullpen. They have so much control over others that maybe they try to hold onto one of the vets a bit longer into the season to steal some innings. A guy like Strzelecki or something..
  16. I'm happy to see the Brewers writers give Burke his flowers. There are some MLB sites that have him ranked as our 30th prospect and having watched him enough in Appleton last year I thought that either I was crazy or they were crazy or that we have the deepest farm system in the history of the game if that guy was our 30th best prospect. Needless to say top 15 feels more "right in the universe". A secondary note is the intrigue with what happens with Josh A. If the Brewers want him to make the big league club I think he needs to take on LF with everything he has. But he just hits and hits and hits. Third note is I hope Ginger Paulson gets whatever annual raise she asks for. Her name seems to appear more often than not on "the Brewers really found a hidden gem with this one".
  17. Eugenio Suarez had the 2nd lowest fielding %, committed the 2nd most errors, and had the lowest dWAR amongst all qualified 3B last year. https://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/player/_/view/fielding/position/3b/table/fielding/sort/defWARBR/dir/desc
  18. I'm a little leery of trading Megill at this point because of Uribe. I have no basis for this hunch and hope I'm wildly wrong but he is a regression candidate for me this year. Last year coming into the year we saw all of the videos of him working (living?) with Peralta all off season and that was a big reason why a few had him pegged as a break out candidate, he had the vet on his shoulder and in his ear. No reason to think he can't handle the mental part of the game at this point without Peralta around however I would love to find out before agreeing to get rid of Megill. Once June hits and any combo of Uribe, Ashby, Zerpa, Koenig, etc prove they can finish games ... then shop him. I'll happily wear this one loudly when proven wrong.
  19. The Brewers are playing baseball today! I can't remember if we usually have a separate thread for ST games ... but nevertheless, big step today. First lineup look: 1. B. Turang 2B 2. J. Chourio DH 3. A. Baddoo LF 4. J. Ortiz SS 5. T. Black 1B 6. B. Lockridge CF 7. D. Hamilton 3B 8. R. McGuire C 9. L. Lara RF SP G. Stallings Start the countdown.
  20. I'm just hypothesizing but I wonder if Rengifo (over Urias) having outfield experience also allows the Brewers to DFA someone like Berroa and free up a 40man spot for alternative use. JC, SF, GM, BP, BL, AB, CY, JB, LR, SB, etc... 1/4 of the Brewers current 40 man roster can play in the outfield and Jett is lurking.
  21. I have no idea what you have and haven't posted in the past. If you say I respond to you a lot I'll take your word for it but I don't recognize your name. There are a few triggers I have with fans in general and in this case the one you hit squarely is the "They are bad at their jobs and I can do it better but I don't need to prove it" response. If that is your general schtick on here than I likely have responded to you. My partial apologies if that has been our relationship.
  22. Heard about Joey's beard. Was not expecting it to be same color as Justin Turner's. Have we started a count yet on who is in the best shape of their lives? I did notice when Turang showed up the other day he looked like he had added noticeable upper body muscle.
  23. It continues to amaze me how many people don't understand the Brewers ownership group and how handcuffed Mark A is, personally, to spending.
  24. The Brewers just operate differently man. That is good or bad depending on the person. Obviously it has been really good the last few years and it is a way I enjoy building things so I've enjoyed it all greatly. Arnold is seeing market inefficiencies and exploiting them. Why is our entire team under 5'10 and 180lbs? Because Arnold and his crew saw something baseball didn't. Why do we currently have 5 LHP in our bullpen? Who knows. Someone got in Arnold's ear about something maybe. (I have a small suspicion that Koenig is a trade high candidate and Zerpa was a get to replace him... but I have no way of proving that.) We probably/possibly got a surplus of output from two rookies last year and decided to offload both at a potential peak in value. We kept some chips in Joey Ortiz being who we thought he could be when we partially gave up our Cy Young for him. We have shunned experience (save Woodruff) for forever youth in our rotation and it looks like we are riding with the kids this year. Did we have a good offseason? Who knows. Ask again in July.
